BERIC’S MESSAGE

This will be the 15th year that the Bruce Lynton Charity Ball has been running on the Gold Coast and it remains to be one of the most highly anticipated events on the social calendar. Over the years, we have helped to raise over $1.5 million for local charities.

In 2014 alone, we raised over $118,000 for our beneficiaries - Cancer Council Queensland, Guide Dogs Queensland, Surf Life Saving, Men Of Business and Youngcare. We are extremely grateful for the incredible support we continuously receive from both local and interstate businesses through generous donations year on year. Without the support of our business partners, none of this could be made possible.

The Bruce Lynton Automotive Group is pleased to announce the date of the 2015 Bruce Lynton Charity Ball which has been confirmed to fall on the 16th of May 2015 at the RACV Royal Pines Resort.

The Bruce Lynton Charity Ball’s sole aim is to continue the support of local charities and remember the important work they do within the community.

Also gaining in popularity is the Bruce Lynton Charity Golf Day, which filled to capacity in 2013 and 2014 with local business owners and executives. The day includes 18 holes of golf, a light lunch, evening canapés and an array of fantastic prizes including a hole in one prize of a vehicle from the Bruce Lynton Prestige Automotive range. The Bruce Lynton Charity Golf Day will be held on Friday 15th May 2015, also taking place at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Thank you for your time in considering this sponsorship proposal and we hope to have the pleasure of working closely with you to make the 2015 Bruce Lynton Charity Ball even more enjoyable and successful than the last. Together we can make a difference.

The loss of sight for many is one of the scariest and most isolating experiences they will ever encounter. Some describe it as the world switching off the lights. For others, the lights were simply never switched on. Give some thought to how you would go about your daily life and routine without sight. How much, like most of us, do you take your sight for granted? There are lots of people in our communities that still don’t have the support they need to change their lives and regain their independence. Many of these people won’t even leave their own homes. At Guide Dogs Queensland we don’t search for cures to blindness; we don’t work on preventative measures to combat vision loss; we don’t even engage in mass education sight-loss campaigns. What we do is work with people – people who need our help – now.

Leading the wayBlindness is a disability, but with courage and determination, we can dispense with the D-I-S on “disability”, and restore the freedom and independence we all should enjoy. Each of us may know 1 or 2 people who are blind or vision impaired – but over the next 5 years, you’ll know many more. By 2020, you’re all likely to have 3 or 4 blind or vision impaired people in your lives. Statistically, one of the people you know, may even be you.Guide Dogs Queensland is there to help – through training, support and community awareness, we take

our job seriously to make the lives of Queenslanders who are vision impaired just a bit better. Whether it be by making routine tasks a bit easier, journeys safer to navigate, or training with the tools and technology available to increase mobility, we help build confidence and independence in all the people we work with.

Guide Dog ServicesWe are most recognised in the community for our iconic Guide Dogs that devote their lives to their blind or vision impaired owner, acting as both a guide and a companion for life. Last year we bred over 120 puppies to cope with the ever increasing demand, but each one comes with a hefty price tag of over $30,000 to breed, train and place in our community. There are currently 25 Queenslanders on the waiting list for a Guide Dog, but this figure is constantly on the rise as our population increases, ages, and working Guide Dogs are retired. With no government funding for our Guide Dog services, the only way we can pay for these remarkable animals is with the support of people like you.

Rehabilitation Services The rehabilitation and training of Queenslanders who are vision impaired is also a vital part of the service we provide to help build confidence and independence. This includes basic courses on orientation; counselling services;

specialised baby, child and youth programs; training with mobility aids like Long Canes; and the more advanced use of new technologies like talking compasses and GPS guided units to help users navigate in unfamiliar surroundings. This latest technology not only assists with orientation and independence, but helps ensure a safer journey when used in conjunction with a Long Cane or Guide Dog. With your help and thanks to the ongoing support of Bruce Lynton BMW, we can provide the support and build the confidence many in our communities need so they can continue to live fulfilling lives despite their vision loss. We hope one day our puppies will become the guiding eyes for someone in need. What a remarkable gift that would be... and how wonderful would it be to know that you helped make it happen?

Cancer Council touches the lives of thousands of people by working with and in support of our community. An estimated 115,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year, with 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women diagnosed before the age of 85. Cancer Council Queensland is an independent community-based charity, that is not Government funded and relies solely on the generosity of people like you to continue our vital work. The money donated to Cancer Council Queensland funds cancer research, patient support services and education programs, on the prevention and early detection of cancer. Investing in cancer research is central to our mission – to eliminate cancer and diminish suffering from cancer.

The support of many thousands of fundraisers, volunteers and donors across Queensland makes our work possible. Our supporters enable us to continue to assist Queensland families affected by cancer. Without the support of events like ‘The Bruce Lynton Charity Ball’, we could not maintain our research, community support service, and prevention and early detection programs. Your support of the 2015 Bruce Lynton Charity Ball will help make a difference in the

lives of Queenslanders affected by cancer and help will take us one step closer to a cancer free future.

There are many ways your money makes a difference:• $5 can go towards providing a cancer patient with

support and information resources to help them through their cancer journey.

• $10 can go towards running the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20). The helpline is staffed by expertly trained nurse/health counsellors who support those affected by cancer.

• $20 can help us train a Cancer Connect volunteer who provides one-to-one support for people diagnosed with cancer.

• $50 can go towards a visit to a community to educate health professionals and to visit and support patients and carers.

• $100 can go towards SunSmart educational talks to schools. Prevention and early intervention are the best ways to control cancer.

• $500 can go towards the cost of funding research into the causes of cancer and into new and improved treatments. Significant advances have been achieved through research; cancer-related deaths have fallen by around 15% between 1986 and 2004. The survival rate for many common cancers has improved by as much as 30% in the past two decades.

The funds you raise make a real difference and will give hope to people affected by cancer both now and in the future.

Touching the lives of all QueenslandersFor some, contact with us is fleeting. It could be a strong arm against the undertow, a few words of advice or warning or CPR to reignite the spark of life. But for many, Surf Life Saving’s effect is more deeply felt, more life-affirming. Lifelong, even. Because not only do surf lifesavers rescue around 3,500 people in Queensland each year, and perform close to 495,000 preventative actions, they nurture, train, inspire and give meaning to the lives of the 30,200 members of the volunteer movement.

Our volunteer surf lifesavers spent more than 350,000 hours on patrol last season. The demands on our volunteer members are mounting. And it is costing more and more to do what we do. This year has seen weather conditions along the Queensland coast cause havoc on our beaches, including large scale erosion from huge seas and beach closures for extended periods.

With over 800,000 people attending Queensland’s beaches over any given weekend our Surf Lifesavers have been kept busy. Last season alone they performed 3,536 rescues, over 494,700 preventative

actions. Severe weather conditions stretch us to the limit. We would never, of course, entertain the idea of compromise – that is not what we stand for. Our commitment to the community will never falter. But without the funds to regularly repair and replace equipment which deteriorates rapidly in the harsh coastal conditions; without funds and resources to underpin volunteer training, our extensive support services and hundreds of vital programs, we’re stretched – and hard pressed to maintain our presence at its current level.

Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB’s) for example, were instrumental in saving well over 590 individuals last season alone. Each club needs at least two fully fitted working IRBs at all times. They have an average useable life of just four years. Maintaining our lifesaving services is vitally important but simply not good enough. We need to meet the demand and embrace new and available technology that will allow us the opportunity to increase our service to the public.

Surf camera surveillance, GPS tracking, aquatic research, and remotely piloted aircraft are all high

on the agenda. But these cost money. Only with the support of corporate and private donors, to complement the very modest funding received from the government, can we utilise the grassroots efforts of clubs to keep delivering our lifesaving services. Bruce Lynton has been unwavering in their support over the past 13 years and has helped raise over $450,000 for essential lifesaving services during this time.

When you got out of bed this morning and you were getting ready for the day ahead, it would never have occurred to you that something might happen today that could change your life or the life of someone you love... for the worse. But each day catastrophic things happen to alter peoples’ lives forever. Car accidents resulting in acquired brain injuries, a diagnosis of MS... And if it happens to you – the most likely outcome is that you’ll be faced with living in aged care, where the average age is 83 and the life expectancy less than three years. Over 7,000 young people with round-the-clock care needs are living in aged care facilities in Australia right now.

A further 700,000 are being cared for at home by loved ones with limited support, and face the prospect of living in aged care in the future. The problem is, most of us assume that if something were to happen to us, there would be appropriate choices in care and accommodation...but the reality is there are very limited options.

Youngcare exists to provide choice in care and housing for all young people with high care needs. Youngcare delivers this through four main programs:

Youngcare Housing – Currently, there are Youngcare Wesley Mission Apartments at Sinnamon Park, Brisbane and Coomera, on the Gold Coast. Construction on a third development in Wooloowin, Brisbane commenced earlier this year, with further buildings due in Albany Creek, Brisbane and Auburn, Sydney in 2014/2015.

Youngcare At Home Care Grants – this program provides funding for essential equipment (like wheelchairs), home modifications and emergency respite care to assist young people who wish to remain at home in the care of loved ones for as long as possible.

Youngcare Connect – a national information and referral phone service, proudly supported by Suncorp Insurance, which provides a single point of contact for young people with high care needs and their families and carers in desperate need of information.

Youngcare Research – In partnership with Griffith University, Youngcare strives to better understand the needs and wants of young people with high care needs.

Through these programs, Youngcare is committed to seeing out its vision where every young person is living the young life they deserve, regardless of their care needs. Youngcare believes with the support of the community, business and government, the lack of care and housing options for young Australians with high care needs is an issue that is solvable in our lifetime. Youngcare’s work is only made possible thanks to this combined support. Aged care is no place for any young person and with your help, Youngcare can provide hope and brighter futures for these young people.

Programs for Teenage Males at RiskMen of Business is the brainchild of a select group of influential business owners on the Gold Coast who recognised that there are more than 500 teenage boys who fall through the cracks of the system each year on the Gold Coast alone.

• 82% of them have tried drugs.• 66% live with one parent or guardian.• 11% don’t know who their parents are.

Most programs designed to help have rigid criteria and inflexible hours. The MOB joined forces with Ohana to pay something back, by ‘paying it forward’ to the next generation. The fundamentals of a balanced life have been synergised into a highly energetic and interactive mentoring program based on healthy lifestyles and attitudes that define the participant’s journey toward manhood.

In an intensive 8 week program, the young men learn the value of:• Trust• Communication• Anger Management• Friends and Family• Respect• Inner Strength and Emotion• Attitude• Goal Setting

Dedicated individuals deliver personal training, one on one mentoring and life coaching, with goals and outcomes derived on a case by case basis. The program is designed to fit around education hours and also assists with job placement. The MOB’s goal is to grow this vital program across the Gold Coast region. Like all programs of this type however, it receives only a small percentage of its running costs from Government, and therefore needs your support.
