The Neighbors Link model centers on three strategies - educate, empower, employ - that have a positive impact for

immigrants integrating into the community.

The Family Center provides support

for parents raising bilingual, bicultural

children to succeed in school and life.

English as a Second Language classes

support full integration for immigrants in our

community.

The Worker Center facilitates connections to employment, advocacy for fair wages, and job skills training to help people move toward economic stability.

Neighbors Link was recently selected by the New York State Office for New Americans (ONA) to join its network of 27 Opportunity Centers, acknowledging our success as a center for healthy immigrant integration and education. This designation is only given to community organizations that can deliver high quality programming and outstanding volunteer engagement, and demonstrates New York State’s commitment to being a welcoming place for immigrants. Neighbors Link’s Opportunity Center includes our partners - the Westchester Community College English Language Institute (WCC/ELI) and the Pace Community Law Practice (PCLP) - working with us to provide the comprehensive array of programming required of all ONA Centers.

For years, Neighbors Link has provided immigration-related legal services through our partnership with Pace Community Law Practice (PCLP). In 2015,

this partnership expanded significantly to assist hundreds of people each year with the process of applying for citizenship.

Workforce Development: 2015 Data Points

Neighbors Link, in partnership with Westchester Community College (WCC), was selected by the National Council of Workforce Education (NCWE) as one of only eight teams in the country to pilot new workforce development programs for immigrant communities.

Recognizing the need for more home health workers in Westchester County, our pilot program trains workers in this field with contextualized English language education.

“This course helped me understand that this is not only work, but compassion and

love for people in hard times.”

Learning Links and Summer Links provide after school and summer academic support and educational enrichment led by professional educators. Our partnership with Mount Kisco Elementary School has made this program strong with excellent student outcomes. Over 150 elementary students participate in Learning Links and Summer Links with over 120 local high school volunteers helping in the classrooms each year.

Ossining: Making an impact

Neighbors Link now offers programs in the neighboring town of Ossining. Leaders there from all sectors of the community - government, schools, houses of worship and law enforcement - reached out to Neighbors Link for support in creating a healthy culture of integration. More than a third of Ossining’s residents are foreign born and most are living in poverty. Programs already underway include workforce development, parent education, leadership classes and citizenship drives with more to come in 2016.

Developing leadership among Neighbors Link program participants is a top priority. In 2015 our Client Leadership Council in Mount Kisco

participated in immigration advocacy in Albany, planned a Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration and helped promote

new programming in Ossining.

Empowerment: Program participants take the lead
