ANNUAL REPORT 2015

For over twenty years and because of your generosity, Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry has transformed the lives of over 50,000 children and families across eight countries. Within this report, you will discover what we have accomplished together, working hand in hand and face to face around the globe.

We are committed to empowering women and children to ensure that education, clean water, job-related skills, peace, and justice are possible for everyone. In 2015, $0.88 of every dollar we spent went directly to these vital efforts. With your continued support, we will be able to transform and be transformed.

The next twenty years hold great promise. We continue to seek new partnerships in places like Jamaica, Malawi, Japan, Holden Village, on college campuses, with new congregations and families. As the new Executive Director, I am grateful for the Olson’s vision and leadership over the past 20 years. Together with the Board and staff, we are excited about where God is calling us next.

Village Savings & Loan Program: With a new president, a new constitution, and a new governing body, there is much hope in CAR. However, the country is still fragile and continues to seek peace and stability following the recent crisis. LPGM continues to support 491 VSL associations that now engage 12,482 members, but long-term stability is still in question.

Gallo Emmanuel Center: In 2015, many challenges were encountered at the Gallo Center: a lack of certain drugs by government services, travel insecurities between Cameroon and CAR, bad roads, reduced services, especially travel to rural villages; a generator that broke down, limiting electricity, and a lack of water. A major accident involving the ambulance took the life of the maintenance person and injured Dr. Marcelin, taking him out of service for 6 months.

Challenges aside, much was accomplished! These numbers speak to community and staff perseverance:

Demsa Clinic: In 2015, LPGM continued to oversee the renovation and expansion of a clinic at Demsa in partnership with the Lutheran Church in Nigeria. The Community-Based Primary Healthcare Program, offered through an improved facility, promotes wellness and disease prevention, while providing basic curative and expanded treatment services.

During the renovation, patients were seen in the in-patient portion of the clinic while the out-patient section was under construction. Once the out-patient section was opened, an increase in patient visits was realized. The most frequent surgeries conducted (in a non-surgical room) include appendectomies, C-sections, hernia repair, and one amputation. Current staffing includes 1 doctor, 2 nurses, 3 community health workers, 5 lab workers, 2 environmental health workers in the pharmacy, 2 cleaners, 2 security workers, and 1 storekeeper/gardener.

NIGERIA

English + Program: In partnership with the Arcot Lutheran Church, the Library and English + Program, now in its 8th year, has had a major impact on 95 schools, 600 teachers and 20,000 students. New in 2015: a Mobile Computer Lab, Summer Camp, and Mother’s English Club. With 22 official languages in India, English truly is the unifying language.

Community College: Thanks to a grant received from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, LPGM worked in partnership with the Arcot Lutheran Church to complete the construction of the Community College campus which now offers four one-year vocational training programs. A dedication took place on June 26, 2015, and over 125 students are currently enrolled.

Project Education India: Because of our generous sponsors to Project Education India, LPGM supports 1,440 students in six boarding homes. Sponsorship makes it possible for students to receive an education because they are then able to live in a boarding home where they are safe, fed, clothed, and receive medical care. Sponsorship transforms the lives of students by providing tools that equip them for a brighter future.

9.5% ELCA Grant In 2015 LPGM received a generous grant distribution of $125,313 from Global Mission of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The purpose of this grant was for the construction of new buildings and furnishings at the Community College in Parangipettai, Tamil Nadu, India. The facility was dedicated on June 26, 2015.

22.5% Congregations & Organizations within a congregation include women’s groups, Sunday schools, Vacation Bible schools, men’s groups and mission teams.
