DEMPSEY CENTER HIGHLIGHTS • Websites were redesigned for both the Center and the Challenge and will be launched in June 2016

• Both Center and Challenge logos were redesigned and will be unveiled in 2016

• Created an Integrated Marketing Plan

• Collaborated with Healthy Androscoggin to expand our cancer prevention efforts related to tobacco

• Benefitted from the second annual Crush Challenge presented by Amgen, a fundraising event in Napa, California

• Educated Cianbro construction workers on sun safety practices in four locations in Maine and New Hampshire

• Named two spaces: our demonstration kitchen, named by Hannaford Charitable Foundation, and Lending Library, named in memory of Leisa Crane

• Expanded our Maine Fund for Cancer Patients (MFCP) to all geographical regions in Maine

• Expanded our giving opportunities through MFCP by applying and receiving funds from Maine Cancer Foundation and Hannaford Supermarkets for gas and grocery gift cards, respectively.

Maine Cancer Resource Connection & Maine Fund for Cancer PatientsMaine Cancer Resource Connection is a service of the Dempsey Center that assists cancer patients and caregivers from all areas of Maine with their questions about financial resources, available support services and other cancer-related concerns. Anyone impacted by cancer can access this service by calling the toll free number or completing a form on our website.

The Maine Fund for Cancer Patients is a financial assistance fund which provides limited assistance, on an individual basis, for individuals and families impacted by cancer in our state. The goal of the MFCP to lessen the financial stress of a cancer diagnosis by

helping patients meet critical

needs such as gas, groceries,

and heat during and just after

treatment. The Fund is accessed

through the Maine Cancer

Resource Connection.

individuals, families, and communities impacted by cancer through support, education, complementary therapies,

outreach and prevention.

Legacy & Life ReflectionsLegacy & Life Reflections Service provides professionally-

guided and recorded interviews for those with advanced

or metastatic cancer, exploring themes such as life history,

most cherished memories, deepest values, and life

which also incorporates photographs and music.

The 7th annual Dempsey Challenge took place on October 17-18. The Challenge continues to be the primary fundraiser for the Dempsey Center, allowing us to provide all of our services at no cost. More than a fundraiser, the Challenge is an impactful community event that brings people together to spread hope and raise awareness.Thanks to our generous event sponsors,

In 2015, the Positive Tracks program returned for its fifth year with the Dempsey Challenge and the third year as the presenting sponsor of the 5K & 10K Run/Walk. Positive Tracks encourages young people to get active and give back on their own turf and terms by plugging into charity athletic events. Through the program, all funds raised by those 23-or-under are matched (up to $200,000 in 2015) and youth independent fundraising projects are highlighted and celebrated throughout event weekend.
