Supplying all items shown on suspension selection charts will ensure the system can be fitted, however, there will be vehicles which will notrequire all items, eg. Trimming kits, caster kits, all U bolts shown, etc. Actual, individual vehicle requirements can only be determined whenthe suspension system is fitted.

Terminologies & ExplanationsPlease note most suspension development has been carried out on Australian specification models. Therefore, some differences may exist between the same model in another country. Overseas customers will need to make allowances for these possible differences.

GVM - GROSS VEHICLE MASS: Set by the vehicle manufacturer and is determined by brake, axle, differential andtyre specifications. Exceeding GVM ratings can have legal and safety implications and is not recommended.

LEAF SPRINGS: A & B springs can be used to compensate for uneven vehicle weight distribution. Springs marked"A" have a greater camber height than springs marked 'B'. 'A' type springs are generally fitted to the driver's side and'B' springs to the passenger side.

GUIDE TO SELECTION

LIFT HEIGHT: Is shown as a guide only and equates to the amount of lift over the vehicle's original ride height. Thisamount can vary from vehicle to vehicle.

REAR:

LOAD RATING - FRONT: Weights shown are maximum permissable loads with regard to accessories fitted, eg. Bullbar, winch, dual battery, etc.

LIGHT LOAD: Full passenger load with luggage weights up to 150kg.MEDIUM LOAD: Full passenger load with luggage weight varying from 200kg to 350kg.

CASTER KIT: The OMECA77B, CALR1 and CALR2 kits consist of 4 eccentric bushes which are pressed into theleading arms of the vehicle. This will induce positive caster into the front geometry.

COIL SPRINGS: A & B springs are used to compensate for uneven vehicle weight distribution. 'A' type springs aregenerally higher in free high than the 'B' spring. Individual coil specifications are listed in the back of this publication.

CONSTANT LOAD: The minimum constant load shown on selection chart is required for optimum springperformance.Please note: These loads are approximate only. Refer to individual vehicle selection for load specifications.

OE: Original Equipment, as supplied by the manufacturer of the vehicle.

SHOCK ABSORBERS: Where two part numbers are given for the same application the part with the asterisk (*)indicates the shock absorber with the firmer ride.

LOAD RATING: The explanations below indicates the passenger and load weights that will provide optimum rideand handling.

GEARBOX PACKER KIT: Designed to space down the gearbox cross member from the chassis to reduce tail shaftflange angle thereby reducing driveline vibration.

GREASABLE SHACKLES: Replacement for original shackles allow easy regular greasing of polyurethane springeye bushes.

If a softer valved Nitrocharger is fitted with a heavy rate spring the vehicle's rebound handling will be reduced.This will be evident by axle bounce over rough roads, dipping under braking or cornering and wallowing overundulating roads.

Where there is a choice of Nitrocharger part numbers it is important the right selection is made withconsideration given to type of spring rates and customer applications.

Soft Valved NitrochargersValved specifically for light to medium rate springs. Most suitable for customers wanting a comfortable rideand regularly carry light to medium loads. Under full GVM load a slight amount of body roll during corneringand highway speed manoeuvring can occur.

The firm part number should be selected whenever heavy rate springs are fitted, as the valving has beenspecifically developed to control the higher spring rates. The firmer valving will provide better control whencornering, while also preventing axle bounce over rough roads.

A CAUTION FOR CUSTOMERS BUYING 4 REPLACEMENT SHOCK ABSORBERS

STEERINGOME SHOCKS, STRUTS LTR SHOCKS

It should be explained to the customer that if their springs are sagged and tired that this would cause theshock absorbers to work a lot harder.

Therefore, the life expectancy of the shock absorbers will be considerably shortened and when loaded rideand handling qualities will also be reduced.REMEMBER: A good set of shock absorbers will not overcome a bad set of springs.

By the time a customer has decided to replace the old and well used original shock absorbers there is everychance that the original springs are also ready for replacement.

OMEU52 is required when fitting OME springs to stop the U bolt contacting the drag link.

A trim packer may be required to trim vehicle. Only to be used on rear springs.

Shock selection *N89 / N95 for medium and N89 for heavy applications applies to vehicles up to 1984 dueto a 16mm eye and shorter open and closed lengths. Post 1984 vehicles with 19mm eye use *N85 / N94 for

FK09 fits all pre 1984 models.

TORSION BAR FITTING HINTS

TORSION BAR REMOVAL1. Before removing the original Torsion bars, the vehicle's front and rear

rim to guard measurements must be taken and noted down, as per image A.Image A: Ride height is measured from the bottom of the rim to the wheel arch vertically through the centre of the hub.

2. Using either a hoist or axle stands, raise the vehicle so that the frontsuspension is off the ground.

ADJUSTING BOLT 3. Image B: After cleaning and lubricating the two adjusting bolts, in the torsion bar anchor arms, measure and note the amount of thread protruding through the lock nut.

4. Using only hand tools loosen and remove the adjusting bolts.

5. Remove torsion bar and anchor arm assembly. Slide anchor armand dust covers (if applicable) off the torsion bars.

TORSION BAR ANCHOR ARM NUT6. Thoroughly clean the anchor arms, adjusting bolts and dust covers.

TORSION BAR INSTALLATION7. Image C: As each OME torsion bar is preset they are marked (LH) and

(RH) and because of this they must only be installed as marked. As viewed from the driver's seat: LH -to the left hand side.

RH -to the right hand side.

8. Image D: Where there is a master spline on the torsion bars (shown in white) on installation they must be aligned to the anchor arms. Where the torsion bars have the same spline sizes at each end, the torsion bar can be installed with either end to the front.

9. Slide the dust cover (if applicable) over the Old Man Emu torsion barsand apply grease to all splines and threads.

10. Install the torsion bar and align the anchor arm so the adjusting boltis just protruding through the anchor nut. If required, the torsion barcan be rotated one spline at a time to adjust the position of theanchor arm.

11. Tighten the adjusting bolts so the same amount of thread, as noted in step 3, protrudes. Install dust covers.

12. Lower the vehicle back onto its wheels and drive a short distanceto settle the front suspension.

TORSION BAR ADJUSTMENTNB - All torsion bar adjustments must be done with the vehicle raised off the ground and the front

suspension hanging. Do NOT adjust the torsion bars with the vehicle wheels on the ground.

13. Image E: Park the vehicle on level ground and measure the vehicle's rim to guard measurements.

14. Use the torsion bar anchor arm adjusting bolt to raise or lower the vehicle's ride height, also to trim the vehicle from side to side, to the desired height.

FRONT SUSPENSION DROOP CHECK15. To maintain good drive shaft, ball joint angles and to stop constant front suspension top out,

it is important to check after adjusting the vehicle's ride height, that the vehicle has enough front wheel droop.

Generally, a vehicle must have a minimum of 50 to 70mm of downward wheel travel (droop)

16. Image E: Front suspension droop is checked by taking the vehicle's front rim to guard measurement, while the wheels are on the ground and noting it down. Image F: Then raise the front until the wheels are off the ground and take another rim to guard measurement and note it down.By subtracting the E image measurement from the F image measurement, the amount of droopwill be obtained. Carry out any adjustment that may be required.

17. All vehicles will require a headlight, front end alignment, and tyre pressure check after the fitment of new torsion bars.
