WEEK 1: KLEIN OAK vs. LANGHAM CREEK

LOCATION: NRG Stadium Saturday, August 29, 2015

Klein Oak kicked off their season at NRG Stadium, taking on the Langham Creek Lobos. As with the previous 3 years,

the winner in this matchup was determined in the very final moments of the game.

Klein Oak loss the coin toss and Langham Creek opted to defer to the 2nd

half. Klein Oak started the game with the ball

but didn't keep it long. The pressure of the atmosphere was almost too much for either team to handle as they both

fumbled the ball back on each of their first drives.

A 21 yard TD scamper by #3 Brandon Blair followed with a 2pt conversion allowed the Panthers to take the lead 8-0

with 9:59 left in the 1st Quarter. It didn’t take long for the Lobos to answer but the PAT was blocked by a trio of Klein Oak

defenders, which inevitably turns out to have huge consequences later.

With 9:03 remaining in the half, Langham Creek took the lead 13-8. Pinned deep on the kickoff return, Panthers started

the drive from their 9 yard line. Oak's no huddle offense enabled running and passing as Blair picked apart the

Langham defense methodically. To complete the astounding drive with a 28 yard pass to #17 Connor Arneson, the

Panthers would regain the lead. With 7:28 left in the half, a failed 2pt conversion would leave the Panthers in the lead

14-13.

With 1:18 remaining in the first half, #35 Odessa Thurman intercepted Langham Creek’s pass to give the Panthers

possession from within 26 yards of the end zone. Only :19 seconds remained in the half when Blair hands off to #6 J.T.

Smith, increasing the Panthers lead 20-13 over the Lobos. Unfortunately another missed PAT caused the Panthers to

miss out on points. After another Klein Oak interception, this time by #20 Chris Garcia, the Panthers had time for a quick

drive. With a 33 yard TD pass from Blair to #10 Austin Davis, the Panthers scored once again. The 2pt conversion was

once again successful and Klein Oak closed out the first half with a lead over the Lobos 28-13.

In the start of the 3rd

Quarter, Langham Creek answered quickly but on the kickoff return, J.T. Smith would run it all the

way back for what was thought to be another Klein Oak touchdown. Unfortunately a 15 yard penalty caused the ball to

be brought back but it didn’t take long for a toss to #18 Bryan Hines for a Panther touchdown. Finishing out the 3rd

Quarter, the Panthers would lead 35-23.

In the 4th Quarter, Langham Creek persevered to answer as Klein Oak dug deep to keep control of the game. After

losing the lead, 6:21 remaining in the game, Panthers wasted little time and put together a drive that ended with a

touchdown pass to Austin Davis. Once again, putting the Panthers on top 42-36. One penalty after another, the

Panthers yard gains were quickly lost. 3:02 left in the game, the Panthers were forced to punt. Starting from their own

40 with 2:54 to go, the Lobos began a drive that would eventually lead to a Lobo touchdown and PAT allowing them to

take the lead with only 39 seconds remaining in the game. Lobos lead 43-42 as their fans thought that would be the

end….but Panthers don’t stop there!

In their final chance to finish the game on top, Panthers started their drive from their own 34 yard line as 33 seconds

remained on the clock. With the Klein Oak offense making it possible for Blair to move, the drive was brought to the 20

yard line as the Panthers called a timeout with :01 remaining on the game clock. In the final 1 second of the game, the

Panthers put their fate in the feet of kicker #32 Trent Sisco who split the uprights on a 37 yard field goal as time expired

to give the Panthers a victorious finish over the Langham Creek Lobos. Final score 45-43!

Klein Collins exerts dominance over Klein Oak with 53 unanswered points in

thrashing

By Jason McDaniel

Published 10:15 pm, Friday, September 25, 2015 http://www.chron.com/sports/highschool/article/Klein-Collins-exerts-dominance-over-Klein-Oak-6531002.php#photo-8696650

Klein Oak and Klein Collins came together Friday to support Collins assistant Jim Scott in his battle with pancreatic

cancer, donning matching purple socks and raising money toward his treatment. But the two rivals remained far apart

on the football field.

The Panthers returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, then the Tigers scored 53 unanswered points to roll to a 53-

7 victory in their District 15-6A opener at Klein Memorial Stadium.

"That's not how you want to start a football game," Collins coach Drew Svoboda said. "We kicked it to one of the fastest

guys in the state of Texas. But our kids didn't panic. They dug deep, they played their assignments, and that's what we

pride ourselves on, on offense and defense – assignment football."

Scott's situation, and the support he's received, helped put the early deficit in perspective for the players, too.

The Tigers' O-line coach was diagnosed earlier this year and currently is undergoing treatment, but he was at the game.

Klein Oak coach David Smith said it was an easy decision to help in Scott's fight.

Oak booster club president Dale McCollum, who lost his mother to cancer, spearheaded their efforts, helping raise more

than $12,000.

"He's part of the coaching fraternity," Smith said. "He's always been one of those guys you see who isn't insecure,

where we can talk. It's always good stuff when you see him."

Svoboda said the support from the Panthers was great stuff.

"The support from the Klein Oak community, and the coaches, the booster club, the student council – everybody who's

been involved in that thing – has been unbelievable," Svoboda said.

The game was a shootout early.

Bennie Smith returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, giving Oak (3-1, 0-1) a 7-0 lead 14 seconds in.

Klein Collins (4-0, 1-0) answered with a score less than two minutes later.

Justin Pratt ran 54 yards on the Tigers' first play and Nate Edmonds capped the retort with a 5-yard TD run.

It was a one-team show from there.

Edmonds rushed for another touchdown and Pratt broke a 46-yard touchdown run for a 19-7 advantage.

Then the Panthers imploded in the final two minutes of the first half.

Brandon Blair lost a fumble trying to run out of bounds with two minutes left, Diego Gomez recovered for the Tigers, and

two plays later Pratt notched his second touchdown from nine yards out.

Then, on the Panthers' next play, Cameron Goode batted a Blair pass to himself for a pick, setting up a 13-yard scoring

pass from Edmonds to Quinton Newton, giving the Tigers three TDs in three minutes.

They led 32-7 at halftime and ran away in the second half.

Pratt finished with 206 yards and two TDs on 22 rushes. Edmonds ran for 65 yards and three TDs and threw for 92

yards and one score.

Collins finished with 541 total yards and 26 first downs. Oak had 97 yards and six first downs.

"They had an excellent scheme," Smith said.

"They did a great job. They've got good players and good coaches and things went their way. They're a good team."

WEEK 6: KLEIN OAK vs. KLEIN FOREST

LOCATION: Klein Memorial Stadium Friday, October 2, 2015

Klein Oak took on Klein Forest at Klein Memorial Stadium on Friday October 2nd. With many injuries coming into the game for Klein Oak, it left many to wonder how the game would turnout. Klein Oak would be the first to score but Klein Forest would answer quickly. Back and forth, it was quickly tied 14-14. It didn’t the Panthers long to adjust and by the end of the 1

st quarter it was clear Klein Oak was prepared to completely dominate the remainder of the game. With a

final score of 47 – 14, Klein Oak defeated Klein Forest in true Panther form.

WEEK 7: KLEIN OAK vs. DEKANEY

LOCATION: Leonard George Stadium Friday, October 9, 2015

Dekaney Wildcats hosted the Klein Oak Panthers at Leonard George Stadium on Friday, October 9th. Although it was Dekaney’s Homecoming, they should have thought twice about picking Klein Oak to play against as the Panthers dominated the entire first half. Up 14 – 0 with 52 seconds left in the 1

st Quarter, the Panthers were facing 3

rd down and

25 yards when quarterback Brandon Blair keeps the ball and runs 40 yards for another Panther TD bringing the score to 21-0. Scoring again with 3:26 left in the first half, Panthers lead 28-0 at halftime. Dekaney made a few adjustments to try to contend with the Panthers in the second half and finally scored during the 3

rd Quarter but missed their extra point, 28-

6. It didn’t take long for the Panthers to strike back. With 9:49 left in the 3rd

Quarter, Panthers increase the lead to 35-6. The Wildcats would score twice more in the 4

th Quarter bringing the game to a final score of 35 – 20, Klein Oak

defeating Dekaney Wildcats. Next week brings on a big challenge for the Panthers as they host Westfield Mustangs on Saturday, October 17

WEEK 8: KLEIN OAK vs. WESTFIELD

LOCATION: Klein Memorial Stadium Saturday, October 17, 2015

Klein Oak Panthers returned home to host the Westfield Mustangs at Klein Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 17th. Both teams came out ready for the challenging match up but it was Westfield who scored the first touchdown before missing the PAT, taking the lead 6-0. It wouldn’t take the Panthers long to answer and by the end of the first quarter, Panthers took the lead 7-6. Both teams fought hard through the first half and made for an exciting game. Panthers would struggle with a few penalties making it difficult to gain momentum before a spectacular pass to Mason Rinker who ran it in for a Panther TD in the second quarter. But it was the Mustangs that held onto the lead before halftime with a score of 21-14. The second half of the game didn’t go as many Panthers had hoped for and the Panthers would come up short to end the game 41-20. Next week brings on a rivalry challenge for the Panthers as they visit the Klein Bearkats on Friday, October 23

rd at Klein Memorial Stadium with a 7:00 PM kickoff. What’s a Bearkat? It’s a

WEEK 9: KLEIN OAK vs. KLEIN

LOCATION: Klein Memorial Stadium Friday, October 23, 2015

The Klein Bearkats hosted the Klein Oak Panthers at Klein Memorial Stadium where impending weather threatened to

ruin the evening but thankfully never did. Although neither team seemed to move the ball on their opening drives, it was

the Bearkats that would score first with a rare safety. Throughout the first half, both teams had answers for one

another’s points with Klein taking the lead just before halftime, 24-20.

In the 3rd quarter, Klein’s strong defense held off the Panthers but unfortunately the usual dominating Panther defense

wasn’t able to do the same, allowing Klein to score the only touchdown of the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter brought about another touchdown by the Panthers but unfortunately allowed for another Bearkat

touchdown as well. In a nail biting finish, the Bearkats defeated the Panthers 31 – 26.

WEEK 10: KLEIN OAK vs. MONTGOMERY

LOCATION: Klein Memorial Stadium Friday, October 30, 2015

Klein Oak Panthers hosted the Montgomery Bears in their homecoming game on Friday night. With identical overall

records of 5-3 and both teams 2-3 in District 15-6A play, both teams needed a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive. On

a night of high wind gusts from the south, it was Klein Oak’s junior kicker Trent Sisco who decided which team still has

hope. With a 37-yard field goal, Sisco sent the Panthers to a 17-14 victory over Montgomery at Klein Memorial Stadium.

The Panthers took the first lead after a Montgomery miscue. In the ‘Wildcat’ formation, Bears couldn’t handle a high

snap and Klein Oak senior Chris Garcia pounced on it at the Bears’ 3-yard line. Klein Oak quarterback Brandon Blair

punched in a 1-yard touchdown to put his team up 7-0 with 7:30 left in the first quarter. Montgomery responded before

the first quarter expired. With 5:13 left in the second quarter, Blair scrambled for a 34-yard touchdown that put the

Panthers in front 14-7. That score stood until halftime.

Montgomery scored on a 1-yard touchdown run on the Bears’ first series of the second half. That score tied the game at

14.Montgomery spent most of the game rotating between senior quarterback Scott McKenzie and Hood. Klein Oak

junior backup quarterback Cameron Olson took over in the fourth quarter and set up the Panthers’ winning field goal.

Olson had runs of 30 and 20 yards to get into Montgomery territory. Blair finished with 11 yards rushing and was sacked

five times. He threw for 58 yards. J.T. Smith led Klein Oak in rushing with 67 yards on 11 carries. Olson finished with 52

yards. The Panthers celebrated their homecoming victory in style.

WEEK 11: KLEIN OAK vs. SPRING

LOCATION: Leonard George Stadium Friday, November 6, 2015

Klein Oak traveled to Spring High School to face the Spring Lions in the final game of regular season football. A win for

the Lions would make them co-District Champions, a first in school history. The Panthers seemed to struggle in the 1st

quarter but finally came alive in the 2nd

WEEK 12: KLEIN OAK vs. THE WOODLANDS

LOCATION: Woodforest Bank Stadium Friday, November 13, 2015

Klein Oak faced The Woodlands High School at Woodforest Stadium in the Bi-District Round of Division I Texas 6-A

State Playoffs on Friday the 13th of November 2015. Plagued with injuries across the board, Klein Oak was forced to

allow Junior Varsity players an opportunity to play on Friday night for the first time all year. The Highlanders were the

first to score a touchdown in the 1st quarter taking an early lead over the Panthers, 7-0. On the ensuing drive, Klein Oak

threw an interception but the pick 6 was averted by Lineman Ryan McCollum who quickly tackled the Highlanders

defensive player a few yards outside of the end zone. The Panthers defense would hold the Highlanders to only a field

goal, bringing the Highlanders lead to 10-0 in the 2nd

quarter. Having won the toss, Highlanders deferred to receive in

the 2nd

half. The 3rd

quarter started strong for the Panthers as the defense was able to stop the Highlanders from

scoring on their opening drive. Klein Oak offense drove the ball down the field aggressively, scoring a touchdown on

their first drive of the 2nd

half. With a successful PAT by kicker Trent Sisco, the Panthers closely trailed the Highlanders

10-7. Unfortunately the Highlanders didn’t take long to answer with a touchdown of their own for what would be the final

points by either team for the game. While the Panthers capitalized on 7 Highlander turnovers in 2014 to win Round 1, it

was the Highlanders that capitalized on 3 Panther turnovers for a victory in 2015. With a final score of 16-7, the

Highlanders will continue on in the playoffs while the Panthers bring an end to a great season.

THANK YOU Panthers and Panther Fans for a great 2015 Season!

JV BLACK vs. Klein Collins

Klein Collins Tigers outlast JV Black Panthers to win 28-20. The Collins Tigers offense proved to be hard to handle in a Thursday night contest. Klein Collins got the scoring/started late in the first quarter with a short touchdown run by the quarterback. Klein Oak answered with a touchdown run of their own but failed to convert the point after attempt

to leave the score Collins 7 Oak 6 after one quarter of play. Collins scored again on a 60 yard 9 play drive capped off by an 8 yard run to extend the score to 14-6 with 3:10 remaining to the half. Klein Oak came roaring right back on a big pass play the very next possession, Mason Karp hit wide receiver Jacob Thurman at the Collins 45 yard line and he ran it in from there. The offense was firing on all cylinders with a 6 play 70 yard drive. Oak completed the two point conversion to tie the game at 14-14 with 2:14 to go to the half. The tigers would score again by passing the ball with precision to make it 21-14 at the halftime break. A 9 play 55 yards drive completed in 1:53. The third quarter saw the tigers hit pay dirt again with a wide open receiver catching the ball near the Oak 45 yard line he then raced into the end zone leaving the defenders in his wake the play capped off a 70 yard drive on 5 plays and put the Tigers out front 28-14 with 1:20 left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter looked hopeful as the Panthers sustained a 70 yard drive to the Tigers 3 yard line. However, on 4th and goal the Panthers threw an interception in the end-zone and came away with no points still behind 28-14 with 6:48 remaining in the contest. Klein Oak would manage to score one more time for six points with just 30 second till the end. The game was an exciting offensive contest. Both teams displayed speed on offense for fast scores. The turnover in the end-zone proving to be beneficial to the Tigers. The final score tonight September 24, was Klein Collins Tigers 28 Klein Oak Panthers 20. The JV Black team is a respectable 2-1 at this point.

JV BLACK vs. Westfield

JV BLACK after just watching JV GOLD win against Westfield had big shoes to fill. The games started with Westfield coming up big on both sides of the ball. Westfield scored first and held Oak on all its possessions in the first half. Westfield also scored a 2nd touchdown in the first half. Score after 2 quarters Westfield 13 Oak 0. In the 2nd half fortunes would be completely reversed, Oak’s defense shut Westfield down & out, led by defensive tackle Ben Clark, linebacker Hugo Ochoa and defensive back Jalen Dent making numerous tackles for loss. Westfield did have 1 promising drive near the end of the game driving down to the15 yard line but a pass was intercepted in the end zone by Jeremy Tolliver. On offense, big game by Clay Walters on successfully executing the onside kicks and Benjaman Poth punting and pinning Westfield on multiple occasions deep in their own territory. With QB CJ Ward running very well and handing off too "Big Game" Juan Urrea, Oak scored on their first two drives in the second half. On their 3rd drive QB CJ Ward continued to run & Juan Urrea ran extremely hard and fast on every carry. The biggest part to Oak’s victory was the line blocking and the wide outs blocking down field. The line really stepped it up in the 2nd half. The wide outs, normally a big part to Oak's Offense, carried their weight by sustaining and giving key blocks. Great job also to the coaches for having a great game plan.

JV GOLD vs. Klein Collins

JV Gold started off on fire marching straight down the field, led by new QB Cameron Hopper & passing to Bradyn Knutson, scoring first Oak led 6-0 in the first quarter. Klein Collins took their first possession as well for a score, however Klein Collins made their extra point attempt, to make the score 6-7 Klein Collins. Oak's defense, in large part due to defensive adjustments made by our coaches, held Klein Collins out of the end zone the rest of the 1st quarter. In the second quarter Klein Collins drove down the field again scoring on uncontested pass. Score at the end of 1 half of play Klein Collins on top 6-15. The 3rd quarter started again with Klein Collins marching down the field to score. Score now Klein Collins on top 6-22. Cameron Hooper handing off to Sean Carter & passing to Knuston had 2 promising drives, unfortunately both fell short and Oak was forced to punt on both occasions. In the 4th quarter Oak's defense held Klein Collins on 3 drives. Also in the 4th quarter QB Joshua Weatherhead entered the game. Joshua led 2 furious drives, engineering drives well with in the 10 yard line. 1 drive was with in the 5 yard line. Passing into the end zone multiple times, each time the receivers made great efforts but were unable to hold on to the ball. Oak fell short with a final score 6-22, Klein Collins on top.

JV GOLD vs. Westfield

The team started off slow unable to handle the opening kickoff, Westfield recovered on Oak’s 35 yard line. Westfield then marched right down the field to score a TD. Westfield 6 Oak 0. Oak received kickoff and was tackled on the 25 yard line. On 25 yard line is where Mason Karp and the Oak's offense would start. After a couple of good runs by Mason Karp & Dravin Espinoza and a wonderful catch by Bradyn Knutson, Oak drove the ball down to the 15 yard line. Next play Mason Karp ran it from there. Oak was able to convert on their extra point try making the score 7-6 OAK. On Westfield’s next possession Oak’s defense stood tall and forced the Mustangs to punt. Where once again with some wonderful blocking by the O-Line Mason Karp & Dravin Espinoza drove down the field to score. Extra point good. Oak 14-6. On Westfield's 3rd possession the defense really stood tall led by once wide receiver turned into defense end William Kuehnle sacking the QB and forcing the QB to make ill-advised decisions and John Netzinger tipping passes. Westfield was forced to punt again. Westfield finally stopped Oak on its 3rd possession forcing a punt. Westfield & Oak would see the ball one more time each in the 1st half with neither able to score. At the end of the first half Oak 14 Westfield 6. Westfield took their first possession in 3 plays right down the field to score missing their extra point. Score Oak 14 Westfield 12. Just like in the first half Mason Karp running and passing to Bradyn Knutson Oak scoring on their first drive. Westfield finally after 3 quarters was able to get their passing game going driving to the 10 yard line and then running the ball in from there and making their two point conversion making the score now tied. OAK 20 WESTFIELD 20. 4th quarter, all tied up Oak now ready and poised to take the win. Oak & Westfield both had promising drives both come up short. Westfield not knowing if they would get the ball back, even went for it on fourth down but came up short. With a little over 3 mins left in the game Oak took over on downs. Trying to catch Westfield off guard Oak attempted a couple of passes, Westfield covered well and Oak was unable to complete the pass attempts. Oak, what

would they do? A tie is not what they came for. Oak left the ball in Mason Karp’s hands. In just a couple of carries Mason as he has done all year would not be stopped. Mason made some great moves and ran the ball in for what ended up being the game WINNING TOUCHDOWN. Great job to all the Oak players, many players not mentioned came up big. It took the whole team to pull this one out. Final score Oak 26 Westfield 20

The game remained scoreless. 2nd Quarter: The 2nd Quarter started with a pass by Dominic Romero, #17 to #4, Palmer Jacobs, Wide Receiver. Palmer Jacobs was tackled after a short gain. #8, CJ Watson, Quarterback had an incomplete pass intended for #4, Palmer Jacobs. The Panthers decided to punt. Palmer Jacobs, #4 punted the ball for the Panthers Black team out at the Panther’s 30 yard line. Freshmen Black Team’s defense led by #43, Andy Wilson was in full control as they stopped the Tigers running back at the line of scrimmage. The Freshmen Black Defense continued to cause problems for the Tigers as they forced another incomplete pass and a run by Klein Collins, RB with the tackle led by #45, Ryan Ross and #5, Shane Sorrels. The Panther’s linebacker, Gerald Irons, III, #2, was showing no mercy to the Tiger’s running back as he attacked the line of scrimmage with powerful tackles. Gerald Irons, III, #2 did not stop there, on the next play he and #29, Re’Lon Jones sacked Klein Collins’ quarterback for a loss of yards. Klein Collins decided that they were getting nowhere with the running game and decided to put the ball in the air, wrong answer as #28, Cristian Carney intercepted the ball forcing a turnover for the Tigers and the Panthers gained possession of the ball. CJ Watson, #8, Quarterback enters the game and has two incomplete passes to #7, Dorian Manuel and #4, Palmer Jacobs. Based on the field position, the Panthers elect to punt. #4, Palmer Jacobs, fakes the punt for a short gain. The Panthers turnover on downs. The Panther’s defense came back on the field, led by #44, AJ Roberts and #11, Chris Green on the tackles. However on the next drive, Klein Collins slips through the Panther’s defense resulting in the first touchdown of the game. The Panther’s defense said, “Oh no you don’t baby, no extra point will be allowed” and blocked the kick. The ball was recovered by Panther’s linebacker, AJ Roberts #44. CJ Watson, #8, Quarterback for the Panthers hands off to #36, De’Aries Smith for a short gain. CJ Watson has an incomplete pass intended for Palmer Jacobs, #4. On the next drive, CJ Watson, #8 does a quarterback keeper resulting in a short gain for the Panthers. Palmer Jacobs, #4enters the game punting to the 34 yard line. It’s Half Time; the Tigers are up by 6. 3rd Quarter: Klein Oak Freshman Black, #18, Rodney “Tyler” Hudson does the kick-off to the Tigers. Fortunately, #21, Charles Flynn was on the tackle shortening the run. On the next Tiger drive, Panther’s defense shows their toughness by immediately tackling the running back. The Panther defense had a series of tackles led by #44, AJ Roberts, #74 Canyon Papajohn, and #2, Gerald Irons, III forcing the Tigers to punt the ball. The punt was returned by #7, Dorian Manuel for a nice gain. CJ Watson, #8 handed off to #7, Dorian Manuel, where he was stopped at the line of scrimmage. CJ Watson, #8 then had a nice bullet pass incomplete to #4, Palmer Jacobs toward the sideline that was well defended by the Tigers resulting in a turnover on downs. The Freshmen Black Team’s defense was not allowing the Tigers to pass their line of scrimmage as #98, Max Edwards led the tackles, Cristian Carney, #28 was on alert at the Safety position as he chased Klein Collins’ running back out of bounds stopping what could have been another touchdown run. Canyon Papajohn, #74 and Max Edwards, #98 were stopping everything moving at the Klein Collins’ line of scrimmage. Gerald Irons, III, #2 said, “let me in on this action” as he joined #74, Canyon Papajohn and #98, Max Edwards to successfully shut the Klein Collins offense down. Klein Collins decides to put the ball in the air, wrong answer, as the Panther Freshman Black, Safety, Cristian Carney, #28 got his second interception of the game. Dominic Romero, #17, enters the game and after the snap keeps the ball, but is stopped at the Panther’s line of scrimmage. Dominic Romero, #17 then completes a pass to Dorian Manuel, #7 for a Panther’s first down. Romero, #17 handed off to #36, De’Aries Smith for two runs resulting in short gains for the Panthers. Dominic Romero, #17 then had an incomplete pass to #18, Rodney (Tyler) Hudson. The Panthers elect to punt. Palmer Jacobs, #4, with a nice punt. Fortunately, the runner was tackled by #29, Re’Lon Jones. 4th Quarter: Another great tackle by Safety, Cristian Carney, #28. The Panther defense came out to play. Chris Green, #11, saved the Klein Oak Freshman Black from another Klein Collins touchdown by chasing the running back and tackling him at the 15 yard line. This was followed by a series of tackles led by #29, Re’Lon Jones, #2, Gerald Irons, III, and AJ Roberts, #44. Third down, and the Panther Black defense did not back down as #98, Max Edwards and #74, Canyon Papajohn stuffed the Tiger offense at their line of scrimmage. The Klein Collins quarterback did not have a chance as #98, Max Edwards, #74, Canyon Papajohn, and #5, Shane Sorrels stopped the pass forcing a turnover on downs. CJ Watson, #8 back in as quarterback with an incomplete pass to #4, Palmer Jacobs and a handoff to Dorian Manuel, #7 with no gain on the play. Watson steps back and delivers a bullet to #85, Graham Cockrell. Cockrell stopped just short of the first down. Panthers elect to punt. The Panther’s Special Team shows they came to play as #18 tackles the Tiger punt returner limited the drive. On the next drive, the Tigers have a long run that was called back because the offense was offside. Shane Sorrels, #5, #98, Max Edwards, and #74, Canyon Papajohn on the tackles for Oak. On the next play, Gerald Irons, III, broke up a pass forcing Klein Collins to punt.

Following the next snap, Romero handed off to #30, Reese Leleux for a loss of yards on the play. Following the third snap, #17, Dominic Romero scrambles and throws, but his pass was intercepted. After some confusion on the field the Tigers assume possession of the ball. The Panther Freshmen Black defense battled until the end with less than two minutes on the clock, with tackles made by #2, Gerald Irons, III, #98, Max Edwards, and #5, Shane Sorrels, however Klein Collins pushed through to get a first down. With a little over a minute left on the clock the Tigers decide to knee the ball for the remainder of the snaps. The final score Klein Collins 6, Klein Oak Freshmen Black, zero.

WEEK 6: Thursday, October 1

FRESHMAN BLACK vs. Klein Forest The Panthers were determined to get a win last night after a devastating loss last week, and they did just that. The final score was 54‐0 and it was a total team effort. From an outstanding special teams unit, forcing turnovers on three

straight kickoffs with perfect “pop‐up” onside kicks from Tyler Hudson, and RB #27 Reese Lelux in on the recoveries, to the KO “Roaring Defense” led by Middle Linebacker #33 AJ Roberts, Strong Defensive Ends #2 Gerald Irons III and #98 Max Edwards, and last weeks “picker” #28 Safety Christian Carney, shut down the Klein Forest Eagles, allowing not a single point. Then there was the “Fighting Panther” Offense led by #10 QB Colbie Habermacher who aired it out Tyler Hudson, and Palmer Jacobs for two TD’s, then there was the running game, with #7 RB Dorian Manuel who had a big game last night scoring multiple TD’s, along with his fellow running back #22 Green who also scored a TD. RB’s Reese Lelux, and D Smith also had some big gains on the evening, but most importantly, I think they would all agree that the O Line would eventually take home the game ball, with an outstanding performance, opening up hole after hole, and protecting the QB series after series but again, it was a total team effort from the Panthers, and it paid off big! Way to go boys!!! OAK’em!!!!!

WEEK 9: Wednesday, Oct. 21

FRESHMAN BLACK vs. Klein The Klein Oak Freshman Black team faced the Klein High Bearkats Wednesday night. KO Black and KH went in with one loss each, but the KO Black team were ready for battle, they were not going to allow another loss on their record. 1st Quarter: Klein High won the toss and elected to receive the ball first. KH’s #22 returns the ball to the 22 yard line. They were able to convert their first run to a 1st down, but loss 2 yards on their next attempt with a tackle by #33 and #43. KO’s outstanding defense held them for no gain on their 2nd down, but their QB went deep to #33 with a 40 yard pass to the 15 yard line. A facemask penalty helped KH to a 1st and goal on about the 5 yard line. This led to the one and only touchdown by KH for the night, but #3 put a stop to the extra point. #7 would run the kick off to the 35 yard line, he also ran the ball 15 yards for the 1st down on the first hand off of the game for Oak. Next hand off was a 45 yard run by #27, followed by our QB #10 running a 15 yard run for the first KO touchdown of the night! Go Panthers! However, our extra point was stopped and the game was tied at 6-6. As Oak kicked the ball off, KO’s #28 stopped #22 at the 25 yard line. #17 was on the tackle for a KH gain of 15 yards. KH was then called on a holding penalty causing them to lose 10 yards for a 2nd down. Then it was dominance by the Klein Oak defense. The very next play only allowed a 5 yard gain by KH as #29, #33, and #3 led a group of Oak defensive players on the tackle. KH QB had nowhere to go on the next play as he was sacked by #2 leading KH to punt the ball off. The first run for Oak on the series was a 6 yard gain by #27, and an amazing 30 yard gain by #7 was brought back due to a holding call on Oak. No worries when #10 ran it for a KO 1st down! Now our QB decided to show off his arm with a 15 yard pass to #6 followed by a 30 yard pass to #18 to end the 1st quarter. 2nd Quarter: The second quarter started out great for the Panthers with a 10 yard run by #7 for another KO touchdown! This time KO was good for the two point conversion by #10, for a score of 14-6 Oak. #18 had a great kick off even with a slip to the 20 yard line. The only thing that went well for KH on this possession was a 25 yard pass to #33. But on the next play a host of Panthers were on the tackle only allowing a 2 yard gain. KH allowed the play clock to run down causing a 5 yard loss on the penalty, followed by a tack by #43 and #11 for a no gain leading KH to punt the ball. Panther’s next possession didn’t go too well either starting with a 10 yard gain by #7 only to have it come back on a holding penalty on Oak. 2nd down was a no gain, followed by a 4 yard gain by #24 leading Panthers to punt the ball off. #6 had a good kick to the 48 yard line. KO defense were all over it on the next KH series starting with a QB sack by #2 for a loss of almost 10 yards. KH QB must have been left a little shaken up because his next pass was off and not caught. #28, #33, and #3 were on the stop leaving KH with a 4th & 7 calling for another punt. Panthers didn’t move the ball much before the half. #7 had a 12 yard run but nothing else happened for Oak causing them to punt the ball with 1 minute and 26 seconds before the half. Although defense had a couple of penalties including a horsecollar, KH had 3 consecutive bad passes and did not make their attempted field goal ending the 1st half of the game with a score of 14 -6 Klein Oak. 3rd Quarter: Klein High started the 2nd half of the game with a safety. Score now 14-8 Oak. Kicking the ball off to KH left the KO fans biting their nails. #22 started the KH drive with a run to the 53 stopped by #17 and #28. However, a big penalty took KH to the 20 yard line. Here’s where our defense shined with #77, #2 and #23 on the stop with a no gain. The next play was intercepted by #28 at the goal line with a return of 5 yards. Next series didn’t go well for Oak with 3 drives not producing a 1st down causing us to punt the ball off to the 45. Klein High’s #33 was on the stop only allowing a 3 yard gain for KH, followed by a stop by #17. KH was in a 3rd & 1

Page 35: 2015 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL · 2020. 9. 12. · 2015 – 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL Klein Oak Athletics celebrated National Signing Day with 25 athletes, including 10 football players,

position where they were able to convert. #29 was on the tackle leading to a KH 2nd & 1 where they were again able to convert the 1st down. #3 stopped KH for a 1 yard gain, then #43, #2 and #33 stopped KH with a 3 yard gain, and #11 was all over KH’s #33 for a no catch leading KH to kick the ball off. Panther’s next drive started with an off sides call on Klein High moving us 5 yards then with #7’s 4 yard gain had Oak at a 2nd & 1 with #10 giving Oak a 1st down. The next couple of drives included a 5 yard gain by #10, #7 with a no gain, then an off sides penalty by KH for a 3rd & 1 Oak. Again #10 comes through with a 1st down for Oak, a screen to #18 left Oak with a 1 yard loss. #7 seemed to help Oak with a 10 yard gain, but a holding call on Oak brings the ball back, but #7 had another run of 12 yards to end the 3rd quarter. 4th Quarter: Oak started the quarter with a 5 yard loss, but #10 had a great pass to #19 for a 1st down to the 45 yard line. A hand off to #7 led to a KO touchdown, way to go offense! Score 22-8 Oak with 8:54 left in the 4th quarter. The kick off to KH was run back to the 41 yard line. Defense was all over the Bearkats starting with a host of Panthers for the tackle, next down was led by #52 and a gang of Panthers, #28 and #33 took the next tackle, and #2 and #23 shut it down with a sack on the QB, followed by a broken up pass by #17. Bearkats were left with a 4th & 15 leading to the kick off. Offense had the fans on their feet the next drive starting with #7 returning the kick off 10 yds to the 35 yard line. #24 ran the ball 20 yards moving Panthers down the field. QB #10 had a 5 yard gain that he worked hard for, shaking off three Bearkats going in for the sack. Oaks next touchdown came with a 40 yard pass to #18 for the touchdown! Hand off to #28 was good for the two point conversion. 30-8 Oak, way to go O Line! Bearkats went to work on the next drive with #17 and #29 on the first tackle, a fumbled snap, and #21 & #29 on the stop for a KH 1st down. #33 led the tackle of the QB in the backfield, #5 was on the next tackle with a 10 yard gain by KH, #23 & #2 had another sack to add to the night giving KH a 5 yard loss and a 4th down. With so little time before the end of the game KH decided to go for it. #77, #2 & #33 were on the final stop with 24 seconds left in the game. Offense took a knee to end the game. Klein Oak Black takes the win 30-8! Another victory for the Panthers! And in true Klein Oak fashion after both teams met at midfield to shake hands each and every one of our Panthers made their way to an injured Bearkat, #33, for a final good game. Win and lose with class Panthers, good job.

WEEK 2: Wednesday, Sept. 2

FRESHMAN GOLD vs. Cy-Creek The Klein Oak Freshman Gold Team are coming off an opening week, 34-6 win against the Langham Creek Lobos to face the Cypress Creek Cougars. 1st Quarter: The first quarter highlights begin with the Panthers kicking off to Cypress Creek. The Cougars began their drive on their own 40-yard line but were unable to muster any offense against the Panther defense, which forced the Cougars to punt after 4 plays. However the Panthers fumbled the ensuing punt with Cougars recovering on the Panther 28-yard line. The Cougars appeared to be in good position but the Panther defense forced the Cougars to fumble on the third play of the drive, gaining possession on their 35-yard line. It didn’t take the Gold Team long to cash in with QB CJ Watson (#8) breaking away for a 55- yard gain on their first play from scrimmage. Two plays later #20 Trent Jones rambled for a 12 -yard touch down! The 2pt conversion was successful and with 6:31 remaining in the first quarter, the Panthers lead Cy-Creek by a score of 8-0. The Panther defense shut the door on Cy-Creek’s 2nd possession after the ensuing kickoff, forcing another 3 and out. Panthers began their 2nd possession on the Cougar 40-yard line and on the 3rd play of the drive, #34 Austin Peyton caught a 25- yard reception for an apparent Panther touchdown but was called back due to offensive holding. The penalty proved to be hurtful due to the Panthers loosing the ball to the Cougar defense on the next play. Cy-Creek, now with their third possession still could not muster any offense against the powerful Panther defense which recorded a couple of sacks for losses during the drive, leaving Cy-Creek yet again with another 3 and out on offense. The Panthers

recover punt and begin their 3rd possession on the Cy-Creek 44-yard line. This plays also concluded 1st quarter of play with the Klein Oak Panthers leading by a score of 8-0. 2nd Quarter: The Panthers began the 2nd quarter with the ball on Cy-Creek 44-yard line and 10 plays later scoring on a QB keeper by CJ Watson #8. The extra point conversion was no good. The score is now Panthers 14 and Cougars 0. The Cougars received the ball on the ensuing kickoff and began a 9 play drive from their own 42-yard line resulting in their first score of the day, extra point failed. The score in 2nd quarter is now Panthers 14 and Cougars 6. The Panthers began their 4th possession after the kick off, from the 50-yard line. Three plays into the drive, QB CJ Watson completed a 30 yard pass to #84 Tyler Speer for a big first down but ended up being for not. On the ensuing play, the Panthers fumbled and Cougars recovered ending another impressive drive by the offense. The Panther defense held Cy-Creeks offense again ending the half and any hopes of the Cougars adding to the score. Half time score was Panthers 14 and Cougars 6. 3rd Quarter: The Panthers received the 3rd quarter kick off on their 40-yard line and with the 5th possession of the game, wasted no time in taking it to the Cougars defense. The Panther offense rumbled 60 yards down the field with QB CJ Watson capping the drive with his third touchdown of the game. It appeared #81 Tayton Coffelt had the 2pt conversion but was called back due to offensive holding. The second attempt failed leaving the score, Panthers 20 and Cougars 6. On the ensuing kick off, #23 for the Cy-Creek Cougars broke away from the pack for a 65- yard touchdown return. The 2pt conversion is good and the score is now Panthers 20 Cougars 14 with 6:53 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Panthers receive kick off and begin their 6th possession from their 47-yard line. The offense sustained and 11 play drive, moving the ball 52 yards behind the bullish running of # 37 Jadon Wilson and capping it off with a 2 yard touchdown by #20 Trent Jones. The 2pt conversion is good and with 2:08 remaining in the 3rd quarter the Panthers lead 28- 14. Panthers kick off to Cy-Creek and they began their 7th possession from the 50- yard line, also ending the 3rd quarter. 4th Quarter: The 4th quarter begins with Cy-Creek offense attempting to put together a drive, however on the 6th play, Cy-Creek QB is intercepted by Panther defensive back #34 Austin Peyton returning the ball down to the Cy-Creek 23-yard line. Panthers now have their 7th possession with 9:24 remaining in the 4th quarter. It took just 4 plays for the Panther offense to capitalize on Cy-Creek’s mistake with QB CJ Watson scoring his 4th touchdown on a keeper to the left side 15 yards out. Extra point is good and the Panther’s lead is now 35- 14 with 8:14 remaining. Panthers kick off to Cy-Creek and the Cougars began their 8th possession on the their 42-yard line. The Cougars have been unable to muster an offensive threat thus far and this drive will fair no better, the Panthers defense holds the Cougars again forcing them to punt after just 6 plays, netting -4 yards. Panthers receive punt from the Cougars and begin their 8th possession from the Cy-Creek 48-yard line. The Panthers have been moving the ball effectively all night but it appeared their tanks were getting low late into the 4th quarter, failing to put together an attack the offense went 3 and out with 4:24 remaining. Cougars began their 9th possession on their own 16 yard line and just like the drives before, they found that trying to move through the Panther defense, was like trying to get through the Steele curtain of the 70s, IMPOSSIBLE! The Panthers held Cy-Creek yet again to their 4th 3 and out of the night, thus obtaining possession with enough time to try for one last score from the Cy-Creek 43- yard line. However with 1:30 remaining the Panthers chose to run out the clock with solid ball control thus closing the door on the game. Panthers WIN! Final Score Klein Oak Panthers 35 and Cy-Creek Cougars 14. Congratulations to Panther Gold Team with 2nd win of the season. See everyone next week. OAK’em!!

WEEK 9: Wednesday, Oct. 21

FRESHMAN GOLD vs. Klein The Klein Oak freshman Gold team has been playing outstanding football this season and their 7 - 0 record attest to that. The Panthers were on the road this week, looking to defend their unbeaten streak, traveling to Klein High to take on the Bearkats. 1st Qtr: The Panthers will open the game on defense with the kickoff going to the Bearkats and the ball on their own 35. The Panther defense has been solid all season thus far and it appeared they were set on continuing their stingy ways. The Panther defense held the Bearkats to just 7 plays forcing a punt on opening drive, giving the offense the ball on their own 22 yardline. The Panther offense took only 5 plays to go 78 yards for the opening score. Trent Jones broke away for a 22 yard scamper, getting the offense close to midfield then 2 plays later it wasTyler Spear receiving a pass from CJ Watson for a 60 TOUCHDOWN! The PA attempt was good and with 5:15 remaining in the 1st, the score was - Panthers 7. Bearkats 0. The Panther defense would hold the Bearkats to just 4 plays on their next possession forcing a turnover on downs at the 50 yardline where the Panther offense would takeover on second possession of the game. The Panther offense lead by (QB) CJ Watson would put together a 6 play drive moving the ball 50 yards with a mixture of offense, featuring Trent Jones and Austin Peyton but it would be (RB) Jadon Wilson who would carry the ball in for a 1 yard TOUCHDOWN! The PA was good and this drive carried into the second quarter with 9:51 remaining the score was...Panthers 14. Bearkats 0. 2nd Qtr: Continuing the second quarter with 9:51 remaining, the Panther defense would find themselves involved in a little more of a battle against the Bearkats offense. With possession beginning on the Bearkats 20, the opposing offense put together a 6 minute, 40 yard drive aided by a Panther offside penalty on 3rd and 5 which helped keep the drive going. However with the defense bending a little, they didn't break; stopping the Bearkats offense on the Panther 40 yardline forcing them to punt and keeping the shutout intact. With 3:46 remaining in the 2nd quarter, the Panther offense would begin at their own 30 yardline. The Panthers would waste little time attacking the Bearkats defense through the air. CJ Watson completed consecutive passes to Trevor Johnson for 10 yards and a 42 yarder

Page 39: 2015 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL · 2020. 9. 12. · 2015 – 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL Klein Oak Athletics celebrated National Signing Day with 25 athletes, including 10 football players,

to Teyton Coffelt which put the Panthers inside Bearkats territory on the 18 yardline. A few plays later the Panthers faced 4th down and chose to go for it needing about 3 yards to convert and Trent Jones delivered, carrying the ball 9 yards while breaking several tackles on the way. Trent Jones capped the drive with a 1 yard TOUCHDOWN! The PA attempt was blocked and with 46 seconds remain in the half, the score was....Panthers 20. Bearkats 0. The Bearkats would receive the ball on ensuing kickoff but have no time left to put a drive together ending the 2nd quarter and taking us into halftime with the score....Panthers 20. Bearkats 0. 3rd Qtr: The Panthers would receive the second half kickoff and begin possession on their own 39 yardline. The offense put together a back breaking drive which was sustained over 13 plays which took 7:34 off the clock. The drive featured powerful running from Trent Jones, CJ Watson and Jadon Wilson, moving the ball 61 yards. During the drive the Panther offense had to overcome a few setbacks as well which had a touchdown called back due to holding and a missed lateral which they lost 12 yards on the play but the this team is resilient. CJ Wilson capped the drive with a 3 yard TOUCHDOWN run! The PA was good and with 2:29 remaining in the 3rd quarter, the score was....Panthers 27. Bearkats 0. The Panther defense would go back to work with the Bearkats receiving the kickoff and beginning their first possession of the 3rd on their own 45 yardline with 2:20 remaining. Although they managed to convert on third and long giving them a new set of downs as wells taking the game into the 4th quarter; the Panther defense tightened up and 4 plays later forced a turnover which was recovered by the defense. 4th Qtr: After the forced turnover the Panther offense would take over on their own 12 with 5:49 remaining in the game. The Panthers were looking to copy their last drive by putting together tough running and eating up the clock but gave up their first turnover of the game, 7 plays into the drive on their own 44 yardline. With the ball back in the Bearkats possession inside Panther territory and 2:20 left in the game, it was up to the defense to preserve the shutout. The Bearkats went to the air in an attempt to move the ball quickly. The Panther defense appeared to struggle at first allowing a couple quick passes to be completed and then being hit with a personal foul for a late hit put the Bearkats around the Panther 25. In the end, it was the Panthers that would take the victory…Panthers 34 Bearkats 0.

WEEK 2: Thursday, September 2

FRESHMAN WHITE vs. Waltrip What a beautiful day for football, a bit wet, but that's what football is about! Your Klein Oak Freshman White Panthers are welcoming in Waltrip Rams for an exciting day of Freshman Football. The 1st Quarter begins with KO kicking off and Waltrip starting out on their own 25. A few plays into their drive, and their offensive line is already getting tagged with a couple of holding calls, which would come to be a common call against Waltrip throughout the game, negating the minimal yardage gains that they've acquired so far. After a sluggish first down by Waltrip at around the 50 yard line, KO's very own, #55 Brayden Martin, dives on a fumbled handoff, to stop Waltrip's drive, and give KO the ball with great field position! Unfortunately, the KO's offense was unable to move the ball, and came up short on a 4th down attempt, handing the ball back to Waltrip. The 2nd Quarter begins with Waltrip in possession, driving the field slowly but surely. But, as in the 1st quarter, every gain in yardage was ultimately reversed by a holding call against their offensive line. Waltrip's drive then decided to speed things up, as they launched a pass from their own 40 yard line, hitting one of their speedy receivers for a 60 yard touchdown. KO would like to blame that on a few missed tackles, but that WR's wheels were turning too fast to be caught. With the made PAT, this would put Waltrip up 7-0 with 3:35 left in the half. On the ensuing kickoff to KO, things began to fall apart. The return man fumbled the ball on his return, as he was being pummeled by several Waltrip players, and Waltrip recovered with great field position. Almost instantly, Waltrip took a 40 yard run to the house, scoring almost untouched. With the PAT good again, this would put Waltrip up 14-0. The half would end as the game had been going so far, with KO not able to move the ball at all, not producing any first downs. The second half begins with KO receiving the kickoff and starting at their own 35 yard line. Several clear and blatant holding calls and offsides calls are being missed on Waltrip, seeming to put the KO offense in a bind. KO decides to punt on 4th down and a bad snap leads to Waltip, yet again, receiving the ball with unbelieveable field position. The one shining star on KO has been their defense,

Page 42: 2015 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL · 2020. 9. 12. · 2015 – 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL Klein Oak Athletics celebrated National Signing Day with 25 athletes, including 10 football players,

especially their defensive line, who put up a goal line stand for the ages, and held Waltrip to a FG. The score now sits at Waltrip - 17, KO - 0. KO receives the kickoff, and yet again, has trouble building any kind of offensive attack. They stall out, and have to punt the ball. Waltrip receives the punt, and returns it 30 yards, setting them up for another short drive. The 4th Quarter begins with a few short runs and passes to get Waltrip to the KO 8 yard line, where their RB is able to take a deceiving handoff outside to the right, and score. The PAT is fumbled by the holder, so there was no attempt even made. Waltrip - 23, KO - 0. KO receives the kickoff, but almost instantly, turns the ball back over with an interception. The KO offense is just not hitting on all cylinders today. As the defense has been doing all day (other than the couple of plays that ended up being scores), they hold the Waltrip offense to nothing. KO's #54 plows through the Waltrip offensive line, sacking the QB for a 6 yard loss, causing Waltrip to punt the ball As luck would have it, Waltrip fumbled their snap on the punt, turning out to be a 20 yard loss for them on 4th down. KO would get the ball back about midfield, hoping to put some kind of number on the board and stop a shutout. A few short pickups in yards, and then finally, a 40 yard bomb to pickup the 1st down. With only seconds left on the clock, one more pass is attempted to get KO in the endzone, but this time they woudl come up short. This time. Don't expect that to continue to happen, as they will come out even stronger next game. Signing off for another great day of football, KO came up short, but not short of heart. They are just beginning, learning every day, and will continue to get better. Waltrip - 23, KO – 0.

WEEK 5: Thursday, Sept. 24

FRESHMAN WHITE vs. Klein Collins This absolutely beautiful day would open up district football play, with your Klein Oak Panthers taking on Klein Collins. The game started out very defensive in nature, with both offenses struggling to move the ball. KO would receive the kick, and within a few plays, would come up fumbling the ball at the 50 yard line. Klein Collins would recover and begin their assault. But, that was very short lived, as #8 for KO would blast through the line, and hand the QB a 10 yard sack. With 4th and 2 yards to go, KO would stand their ground, ground and pound, and force a turnover on downs in their own territory. As we saw all day, both offenses would have troubles, and KO would be forced to punt on this drive. A HUGE bright spot in this game would be the KO punting! The first punt of the day was beautiful, traveling about 40 yards, pinning the Klein Collins offense deep into their own field. Klein Collins would try to get something going, but a big run brought back by offensive holding, and this drive would stall again. On top of that was a huge tackle for loss by #83, and Klein Collins would be forced to punt. KO would receive and takeover on their own 32 yard line. The score is still sitting even at 0-0. With the offense struggling again, a fumble for a loss of 5 yards, KO would be forced to punt again. This time the KO punter would outdo himself, launching this punt over 50 yards after the bounce. WHAT A PUNT!!!!! As it would go all day, the Klein Collins just could not get anything going against this stout KO D!!! A big hit on the Qb by KO's #3, followed by an even bigger hit by #83, put Klein Collins at 4th and 5, and another punt. With both offenses struggling, they would end the half tied at 0.

WEEK 6: Thursday, October 1

FRESHMAN WHITE vs. The Woodlands HS Though the day was beautiful and cool, the football didn't turn out the same for your Klein Oak Panthers. At times it seemed they were overwhelmed, or their heads just not in it, but they did continue to fight throughout the game with what little they did have. The game would open up with KO receiving the ball. They would start in their own territory, and would quickly move the ball on a couple of nice running gains for first downs, but that would soon stall. A booming punt would ensue, and as in last week, became a highlight of the Panthers game today. Woodlands High would take over deep into their own territory, but would immediately be penalized by an offensive line holding call, dropping them further back. Then, out of nowhere, a defensive interception by your own, #2, would give KO the ball deep into Woodlands High territory!! A huge play this early in the game, giving KO great field position. But, as would be the case all day, the KO offense stalled quickly, and turned the ball over on downs. The KO defense would step it up again, holding Woodlands High to no gains, and force them to punt. After a very short punt, KO would take over again deep into the Woodlands High territory, at their 25 yard line!!!! Though this seemed very promising, the offensive run game would get plugged, and the offensive passing game just wasn't on its mark. KO would stall and would turn the ball over on downs, again, deep into the Woodlands High side of the field. The 2nd quarter would start and this time, your KO D would give up some yards, with Woodlands High working the ball all the way down to the KO 15 yard line. But, it seems that when you put the KO D against the wall, they react by fighting back. They would stuff the Woodlands High offense and force a turnover on downs at the KO 15 yard line. A HUGE defensive stop!! So, you would feel that this was the time for the KO offense to shine, but quickly out of the gate, they fumbled the snap, which pinned them even further into their own territory. KO's #25 was running with power, picking up some yards, but it just wasn't enough. A short punt (this time) would give the Woodlands High offense great field position, at the KO 30 yard line. But again, your KO Panthers D felt pressure, so they reacted with another HUGE interception by #3 at their own 5 yard line! What a stop before the half!!!!! After halftime, things began to go downhill for KO. The Woodlands High Highlanders received the kickoff, and took it to the house. A missed PAT, and Woodlands High would be up, 6-0 on your Klein Oak Panthers. KO would receive the kickoff, but their offense would stall again. Getting deeper behind the first down, by losing several yards on some tackles for loss, would not help the cause. But, a booming 50 yard punt would follow, pinning Woodlands High at their own 20 yard line. But, the Woodlands High offense was getting hot. A couple of deep pass plays would get them into the KO side of the field, followed by a huge run to take them all the way. Another missed PAT would put Woodlands High up 12-0. KO would respond on

Page 43: 2015 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL · 2020. 9. 12. · 2015 – 2016 KLEIN OAK FOOTBALL Klein Oak Athletics celebrated National Signing Day with 25 athletes, including 10 football players,

the kickoff by grabbing a big return to the 50 yard line. A couple of short runs, paired by a nice 20 yard pass from your own KO #4 to #12, would set them up deep into the Woodlands High territory, but the offense would stall again. A turnover on downs would give the ball back to Woodlands High deep in their own field. The 4th quarter would start with Woodlands High offense on the field, but this time, it looked like the KO defense was not. Woodlands High would easily march down the field, running and passing at will, and score an easy touchdown with not much time left in the game. A good PAT, and they would go up 19-0 over Klein Oak. After the kickoff to KO, the game would basically end on a sour note, with an interception to the Woodlands High defense. Time would expire, and your KO Panthers would go down to the Woodlands High Highlanders, 19-0. You can't win them all, as losing comes with every sport, and today just felt like one of those days where your Klein Oak Panthers just wanted to hurry up and get out of town. But we know these kids have fight in them, we know they can rebound from this, and we know that they will come out with their teeth showing and clawing for the victory next time. Signing off for another great day of football, remember to always hold your head high, in victory or defeat, and great things will come your way. Oak 'Em!!!
