Beth Barol, DSW, has 39 years of experience, both nationally and internationally, serving and supporting people with Intel- lectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) who also have challenging behaviors. Areas of special expertise include Positive Approaches with people with IDD, challenging behaviors and co-occurring mental illness, the effects of trauma, and neurological differences. She is currently interim Associate Dean and director of Widener University Center for Social Work Education.Mark S. Diorio, PhD, MPH, has over 35 years of experience providing specialized services and clinical treatment to individuals with IDD. Currently, Dr. Diorio is employed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services as an Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities consultant, working with state staff, regional REACH programs and other key stakeholders to deliver high quality services to individuals with challenging behaviors. John Finn, MA, BCFE, is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner, a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners and a clinical member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers. He was Director of Forensic Services for the New York Office for People with Developmental Disabilities for over 30 years. He has designed, constructed and operated intensive treatment programs in some 30 states, at all levels of security from large in-patient secure ICF facilities to small community based programs.Robert J. Fletcher, DSW, ACSW, NADD-CC, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association for Dual Diagnosis (NADD). For the last 40 years, Dr. Fletcher has dedicated his career to improving the lives of individuals who have a dual diagnosis (MI/ID) as a clinician, program developer, policy maker, researcher and consultant. He is a widely published author on mental health aspects in persons with IDD, including serving as Chief Editor of the Diagnostic Manual – Intellectual Disabilities and Psychotherapy for Individuals with Intellectual Disability. James L. Haaven, MA, is a consultant and trainer in assessment, treatment, and program development related to sexual offending behavior of persons with IDD. He has 34 years of experience working with persons with sexual offending behavior, including 28 exclusively with persons with IDD. He provides consultation and training throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom and is the lead author of Treating Intellectually Disabled Sex Offenders: A Model Residential Program.Maria Morgan, MA, MFT, is the Program Director at Catalyst and Oasis Clubhouse, an Assertive Community Treatmentprogram of Providence Community Services. Catalyst provides full service partnership services to Transitional Age Youth (TAY) ages 16 to 25 with a serious mental illness and who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in San Diego County.Peggie Webb, MA, is Manager of Forensic and Behavioral Health Services for the San Diego Regional Center. Prior to joining the Regional Center, Peggie served as the Executive Director of Mosaic Connections, Inc., an agency specializing in training and consultation in the field of developmental disabilities and mental health. Peggie is a member of the Statewide Collaborative for Forensic Mental Health in Dual Diagnosis and currently serves on the Board of Directors for NADD.Rebecca Wright, MSW, LCSW, is President of the Consortium on Innovative Practices. Her career spans more than 35 years in the fields of IDD and long-term supports, including clinical assessment, development and administration of community-based programs, training, consultation and legislative advocacy. She has remained active in the promotion and dissemination of person- centered planning practices as the fundamental requirement for “getting it right” at both the individual and systemic levels.

The San Diego Regional Center and partners are pleased to announce the Healthy Lives-Safe Communities Cross Systems Learning Collaborative for Criminal Justice, Developmental Disabilities and Behavioral Health Professionals. This training series will build a shared knowledge base and common language among all the agencies and professionals who might touch the lives of individuals who have a combination of intellectual, developmental and mental health needs and also have histories of significant high risk behaviors, and will provide a forum for ongoing interaction, collaboration and systemic problem-solving.

The Healthy Lives-Safe Communities Learning Collaborative is designed for a diverse audience and each session in the series will offer foundational knowledge in the topic area, introduce related evidence-based best practices and focus on collaborative and systemic solutions.

The series kicks off in the fall of 2015 and will continue throughout 2016, culminating in a one-day conference in early 2017. See Calendar inside for more information and how to register.
