Course Description
Designed for computer installation, preventive maintenance,
networking, security, and troubleshooting. It provides students with
project-based experiences in basic computer and peripheral servicing.
Technical instruction includes an orientation, workplace safety policies
and procedures, and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on
computer mathematics and the features and functions of the hardware
components of a computer system: storage devices, motherboard, power
supply devices, central processing unit, display devices, peripherals and
input devices, adapter cards, and printers as well as laptops

Course Description
Provides students with technical instruction and practical experience
in written and oral business communications. It includes an
introduction and reviews employability skills, time management skills,
job application, resume and proper job etiquette. Provides information
regarding labor/employee relations, and a survey of laws and regulations
that affect the workplace. An overview of employment; wage and hour;
benefits; EEO and AA; and labor/employee relations and safety laws,
rules and regulations. Covers areas of recruitment through termination.
Instruction balances the rights and responsibilities of employees and
management to provide a productive, harmonious, and efficient work
environment while meeting business objectives.
Comments
Student will earn a Certificate of Competency after successfully passing

Course Description
This course is the first competence-based course in a sequence of three in
the child development pathway. It is the study of developmental stages of
children from conception through preschool years. Student’s will gain
research and writing skills as they explore, investigate, and synthesis
major theories of development and their application including emotional,
psychological, cognitive, and physical development. Student’s will
engage in project-based learning and field experiences with young
children, as well as discuss and learn about workplace safety policies and
procedures incorporated with techniques in communication, critical
thinking, and employability skills. This course will prepare students
interested in careers with children to be better prepared for the field, as
well as post-secondary education.
Comments Students continue to Child Development/2: Curriculum. Students engage

Course Description
This course is the second competency-based course in a sequence of three
in the Child Development pathway. Students will learn and apply
theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the development, teaching
and guidance of children. Students will be prepared to work with children
after high school graduation and will be better prepared to pursue post-
secondary education in careers working with children. Students will gain
additional research and writing skills as they explore the developmental
principles and practices of effective classroom management, effective
teaching methods, curriculum planning and positive guidance. Students
will participate in project-based learning and experiences as part of the
lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation of play-based curricular
activities in health, arts, language arts, math, science, social studies, and
play curriculum.

Course Description
This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of
programming which will enable them to pursue a career in computer
programming. The student will learn programming concepts and practice
their implementation in a high level programming language (i.e., C++).
The student will also learn programming skills, which will help them
pursue college degrees in the computer science field. The course will
employ the use of advanced programming tools such as arrays. They will
learn the binary, octal, and hexadecimal number system.

ingredients and preparatory baking techniques used for basic bread, sweet
yeast dough, doughnut, and cruller production.

Technical instruction includes an orientation, safety and sanitation,
weights and measures, tools and equipment, food garnishing and
presentation, cooking techniques, ingredients, resource management,
budget expense and control, employability skills, and labor
management. Emphasis is placed on the preparatory and presentation
techniques used for the following: meats including seafood; cheese;
eggs; vegetables; grains; herbs; fruit; salad dressings, dips, spreads,
and marinades; stocks and soups; sauces; patés and terrines;
condiments, nuts, seeds, olives, pickles, and relishes; milk and soy
products; and pasta. It also covers the preparatory and presentation
techniques used for vegetarian dishes, sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres, and
breakfast.

Course Description
Prepares students in providing customer services to a variety of industry
and/or company environments. This course contains instruction in
assessing individual work styles and identifying effective work
behaviors; identifying and building personal/interpersonal skills to sustain
employment; strengthening thinking and problem solving in the
workplace, and identifying work site employment. Instruction of
business-related oral and written communication skills (customer
face-to-face interaction, effective telephone skills) is also included.
An introduction to the fundamentals of customer service and
customer service representative job-readiness skills is provided.

learning (WBL) opportunities in the proper use of general floricultural
tools, plant identification, soil analysis, irrigation and water management,
floricultural crops, and floral breeding and fertilization. Instruction also
includes an orientation, and the development of communication and
interpersonal skills, sales and service techniques, employability skills, and
e-portfolio production.
Comments
Students need to be aware they will be working outdoors, physically
working with plants such as weeding, raking, planting, pruning and
general cleanup of agriculture area.
Students who have allergies and suffer from outdoor activities need to
consider potential risk.

opportunity law, credit, suretyship, and bankruptcy, intellectual property
and internet law, administrative law, consumer, investor, and
environmental protection, and mock trial - civil.

Course Description
The course is designed to meet the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
certification requirements. It provides students with technical instruction
and practical experience in two levels of Word training-core and expert.
Instruction includes an orientation, workplace safety, and employability skills.
Emphasis is placed on working with texts, paragraphs, and documents, as
well as file management, use of tables, and working with pictures and charts
for the core level. The expert level emphasizes working with paragraphs and
documents, using tables, working with pictures and charts, using mail merge
and advanced features, and collaborating with work groups.
Comments
Recommended for students interested in earning MOS Certification. Student
will test to certify core level upon completion of course.
The American Council on Education (ACE) has recommended the exam of this
course for college credit.

reviews of workplace safety and employability skills. Emphasis is placed
on working with cells and files, formatting worksheets, page set up and
printing, working with worksheets and workbooks and using charts and
objects for the core level. The expert level emphasizes the use of
templates and multiple workbooks, formatting numbers, printing
workbooks, working with toolbars, using macros, displaying and
formatting data, using analysis tools, and collaborating with work groups.
Comments
Recommended for students interested in earning MOS Certification. Student
will test to certify core level upon completion of course.

Prepares students to pass the Cisco Certified Entry Networking
Technician (CCENT) examination. Technical instruction includes an
orientation, workplace safety principles and procedures, resource
management, and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on data bus,
memory, network storage devices, communication ports, input and
output devices, communication with other computers, portable
computers, hardware configuration, operating systems, introduction to
computer networking, introduction to network operating systems,
connecting to the network and logging in, accessing data files on the
network, OSI model, IEEE networking specifications, networking
architecture, network layout design, networking media, networking
interface cards, network protocols, and the network operating system.

small business opportunities, planning the small business, location
and facilities, initial capitalization and financial planning, real

management control, personnel, marketing, promoting the business,
international trade/marketing, taxation, special regulations, small

Course Description
This competency-based course is designed for family and human services.
It provides students with project- based experiences in delivering client
services in the fields of psychology, rehabilitation, and social work.
Instruction includes an orientation, workplace safety and security policies
and procedures, employability skills, computer literacy, and research and
information literacy. Emphasis is placed on the identification,
procurement, and delivery of social and community services and benefits;
and the development, organization and administration of programs that
prevent and/or resolve problems relating to substance abuse, human
relationships, rehabilitation, and adult daycare.
Comments Course is a two consecutive mester course. Students engage in laboratory
preschool 3 days a week.
