Searched records in - Habersham CountyWhite County

for marriage of Robert Franklin Mashburn after 1880 - could notlocate - neither could I locate any record of death, thoughHabersham County records were destroyed in court house firecovering that period. They only started recording deaths about1919 - they have records back to 1928.

All marriage records for Habersham were saved - and there is norecord of his marriage in that county.

The Ordinary in Habersham suggested that I call -

Mrs. W. Jarrard Palmour,Baldwin, Georgia

Phone 778-64-03

as she was compiling records for Habersham. He felt sure shecould be helpful, particularly on tombstone inscriptions.

We did not go through Baldwin, so did not call her. I will write yer.

Dt3arEdna:Hearing from you today was a pleasant surprise. psually

Pearl and I are up at my house during the day, then come overhere to her house after supper and I stay until after the 11 p.m.local news on radio. But today was so nice for sunning andairing clothes that I was doing some sorting and discarding.

I have also been painting and trying to clean Pearl's largefront porch. Our houses are old and all of them in need ofrepair, especially painting, and that sort of help just can't befound. So many of the larger projects being built in the areathat all the good carpenters and painters are busy.

I have just found the answer to your question regardingRobert F. Mashburn's birth date: I copied the service recordsfor Elisha, Henry 'I'riomaa, James E., JosClphF. and Robert F.from Volume 4, Pages 659, 667 and 668, Roster of ConfederateSoldiers of Ga. 1861-1865. So don't know just which of thesethree pages his wa.s listed. Just found it - it was 668.

Dear Mrs. Simpson,

I apologize ·for the delay in a newer ing your inquiry. I delayedanswering in order to talk to one or t.wo people whom I thought couldsupply a ddi tional information.

In the SlJ1vITERCOUNTYCEMETERYRECOIWScompiled by Mrs. W. D.(Mazie Hanson) Harvey, 214 \I. College st., I found the followinginformation:

Henry Dacon Mashburn, died May 24, 191±39 Age 65. Though thename is spelled differently, I feel sure that the reference is toHenry Bascom Nashburn. He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery,Americus.

I have talked with ,Hal Gatewood, HI'S. R. B. Sumner ( my mother)"and Hr s , Griff Eldridge (Hamie). Hr. and Mrs. Hashhurn lived acrossthe street from Hamie on Harrold Avenue at the time of Hr. Hashburn'sdeath. Both she and Hal remember that Hr. Mashburn wor-ke d at one ofthe wholesale grocery companies--either Glover Grocery or AmericusGrocery, the latter owned by the Laniel'S.

Other family connections that I know of are Hary Emily Gurr andEdith Gurr, nieces, who lived in Vienna. I believe that they arechildren of Hr. Hashburn' s s i s t.e r , Edith lived. here on Lee Streetwith them and attended Georgia Southwestern College about 193/±-1936.I was a s t.udent there at the same time. Mar v Emily was older. Ed.ithis married to Dr. Horgan Kellum. Hrs. Eld.ridge t.hinks that they nowlive in SilvertoiVn (Goodyear town) close to Thomaston.

Hr. Hashburn was mayor pro-tern. The record of mayors to 1929does not list his name as ~ mayor, and I have not b0en able todetermine the date.
