MOHAMMAD FAZLE AZEEM Statement of Teaching, Research and Professional Philosophies and Expertise

I have clarity in my vision for the program is to ensure that the program achieves the stated mission, which is very much in line with the University/Department vision and mission. I, therefore, tend to create an active community of students, faculty, and local industry for maintaining and strengthening the passion for teaching, learning, service and research.

I myself consider as scholar. That’s why being a scholar I use to learn while teaching my students. My first objective of teaching is that every student should learn every topic to its full extent by utilizing their knowledge about the fundamentals of the subject. To achieve this I try to establish a live, coherent and interactive environment in the classroom as well as in the laboratories for two way communication by encouraging the student to ask clarification about their doubts on the topics/experiments. This way I try to learn the level of students and accordingly I used to clarify their doubts. Besides this, while starting a new topic I used to put up few related questions before the students to make them attentive during the entire course of discussion. My second objective is to instigate the students to use their thinking capability and knowledge about the subject for getting the feasible solution to the engineering problem. To achieve this I perform example based teaching of the topics and always keep my doors open for discussion with students. My third objective is to mold my students for service to the society by applying their learned engineering skills with ethical values. To achieve this I used to mention, as and when required either in the classrooms or/and during consultation hours, the need of engineering solution to the issues related to human being in the light of societal and ethical values.

During my 26 years of teaching tenure and 16 years of post-phd period I mostly taught the subject related with Computational Methods in Electrical Engineering, Measurement, Control, Bio-instrumentation, Bio-signal Processing, Fuzzy logic, Neural networks and Genetic Algorithm to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. During last seven years I grew myself in the field of electronics by teaching Low Power VLSI Design, CAD for VLSI, Fundamentals of CMOS VLSI, Embedded System Design to Undergraduate and Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) to Postgraduate students. However, I am confident in teaching electrical power generation, transmission and utilization to Undergraduate level too.

During my initial phase of research I have applied Soft Computing (Which is a consortium of Fuzzy Logic, Neural Computation and Evolutionary Computation) to system modeling and control. Later on I extended soft computing application to Bio-Signal processing, Image processing for face recognition, and I have use the knowledge of VLSI for the development of Fuzzy Analog Processor. Nowadays I am looking for the soft computing applications to the development of control strategies for stand-alone and grid-tied hybrid renewable energy sources. These all are motivated by the service to the society.

Being as an electrical engineer & teacher by profession I believe that it is my prime responsibility to serve the humanity up to my fullest capability. To make the living of masses better, education is the best tool. That’s why I have chosen teaching and research as profession so that I can serve the society in a better way with ethical and moral values.
