AnnouncementsLOOKING TO GET INVOLVED?The St. John Adult Faith Team is in need of some new members. We need people who are creative and willing to not
only brainstorm how we can provide life-long faith formation to our Parish, but are also willing to roll up their sleeves and make the vision become reality! We are the group that organizes things like Parish Missions, Book Discussions, Coffee with Christ, Cinema and Snacks, Bible Studies, Days or Evenings of Reflection, just to name a few. If you have ever thought, “I wonder why we haven’t done____?” We need you to bring this to the group and get involved in making it happen. To make our Team the best we can be, we need members who represent a cross section of all the generations in the parish. We meet on the second Tuesday of the odd numbered months, January, March, May, September and November at 7:00 p.m. in Room 107. If you are interested in being part of the team, contact Deacon Chuck Wright at the Parish Offices at 667-3419 or [email protected].
Next Book Discussion: Summer is almost gone. School has started and it is time to look ahead to our Fall Book Discussion. Starting Thursday, October 8th,
we will begin to discussion Matthew Kelly’s book The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic. Watch for registration forms and the information poster in the Narthex.
LOOK WHAT’S NEW IN THE LIBRARY: Several books and CDs have been added to the Library over the summer. All CDs are now in Unit E in alphabetical order by author with a list of all the CDs available.
Also in the same area are some of the new books added to the Library over the summer. Stop by and check them out!!
Upcoming EventsCoffee with Christ returns September 27, 9:15-10:00 a.m. in the Banquet Hall. We will look at Environmental Stewardship, Marianist Sister Leanne
Jablonski FMI, Ph.D., will lead the discussion. Sr. Leanne is an ecologist, educator and pastoral minister engaged in climate science, faith and justice outreach regionally to nationally. She directs the Marianist Environmental Education Center (meec.udayton.edu) and at UD coordinates the Sustainability Energy Environment LLC and teaches Ecology and Religion. This session will not disappoint and is one to be sure to attend.
TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 13, 2015
RCIA SESSIONS STARTING SOON: Do you know of someone who has expressed interest in the Catholic Church but hasn’t taken any action on it? How about someone who may have asked questions about your faith and you can tell they are searching? Are you the only non-Catholic in your family and you have questions about the Church? If you are one of these people or know someone like this, invite them to consider our RCIA this year. We have yellow trifold information pamphlets in the rack in the Narthex that you can put in their hands. They can call me or if you contact me, I will extend an invitation to them. Contact Deacon Chuck Wright at 667-3419 or email [email protected]. The early part of RCIA requires no commitment, but is simply a time to come take a peak, ask questions and to decide if you would like to go further.
Attention, Ladies of the Parish! The Women of Spirit is hosting their annual Getaway Weekend on October 2nd thru the 4th. The theme for this year’s weekend is “Laughter...The Grace that Heals Us.” This
event will be held at Buck Creek State Park, near Springfield and the cost is only $50.00. If you are 21 or 101 or somewhere in between, come join us for a weekend that is designed JUST FOR YOU. If you have questions or to register, please call Cindy Griffin at 698-5590 or email [email protected] before September 15th to reserve your spot.

SpiritualCATHOLIC UPDATE for September features; POPE FRANCIS AND THE ENVIRONMENT Caring For Our Common Home, by Michael Wright. “As a father, I try to impart my wisdom to my kids. My advice often falls on deaf ears, Sound familiar? In “On care for Our Common Home” (Laudato Si’), Pope Francis
offers us, his spiritual children, wisdom about caring for the environment – the first encyclical to do so in the Church’s history.” “In it he connects the environment with basic values of life, love of God and neighbor, family, and the common good.” Michael brings us an over view of the Popes writing in very clear and easy to understand terms and leads us to ask, How is care of the earth a reflection of my faith?” This is a must read edition of the Catholic Update, grab a copy from the book rack in the Narthex on the way home to find out more. If you would like copies of past Catholic Updates, please contact Deacon Chuck Wright at the Parish Office.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time; Travis Meeks (Air Force), Nathan McKitrick (Marines), Tabitha McKitrick (Navy), David
Nartker (Navy), Bryan Bernhold (Air Force) and Brad Staddon (Army) and with their loved ones at home. We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace. Please let the office (937-667-3419) know if you would like your loved one(s) listed by name here. We would be happy to pray for them by name.
Help CenterST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded the hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be Sunday, September 27th. Please meet in the north parking lot of the church for a 5:00 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.
BAKERS NEEDED: We are looking forward to another year of Coffee with Christ. The first session will be on September 27th and will be on the Catholic View on Environmental Stewardship, with Sr. Leanne Jablonski. To continue to make these programs a success,
we need people who are willing to provide baked goods for these sessions. Items such as a coffee cake, muffins, a banana bread, cookies, brownies, or any other yummy items that you are willing to make and share. Plan to make enough to share with a couple dozen people. If you can help with this, please contact Chuck Wright at 667-3419, ext. 203 or [email protected] to sign up for a session. THANK YOU!
HELP NEEDED FOR OUR BAPTISMAL PREPARATION PROGRAM: We need a person or couple who can help facilitate our Baptismal Preparation Session three times a year. Sessions are held on Sunday afternoons
in Room 101 at 1:30 p.m. If you are able to help or would like more information, contact Deacon Chuck Wright at [email protected] or by calling 667-3419, ext. 203.
CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD NEEDS YOU: We are in need of Team Members for Children’s Liturgy Team. Children’s Liturgy is held on Sunday mornings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The ideal team member is someone who has an active faith
life, a love for Scripture, and a desire to share this with our children. You would be scheduled once a month.
