“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Have a great month! August 2015
Welcome to Florida; it greets you with hot humid air although it seems unpleasant at first, it eventually becomes quite fair. I know you'll enjoy our flat lands and oceans oh quite blue , you'll walk along our golden sands your life becomes anew. Because here in Florida, you're off to a fresh start, since you're well acquainted, you may never want to depart. "We live where you vacation" A line known all too well , Because here in Florida, let's face it, we can have some fun year round!
So far this summer season we have not been threatened by any hurricane’s. We are blessed to be living in such a protected area away from all the high waters and the coastal areas that do get hit the most. We have had our occasions of hard rain with thunder and lightning from tropical storm’s..
Please heed warnings you are given by the media on radio or television.
Everyone who lives here in Florida knows that we are the lightning capital of the USA. So if you are in the pool area and it looks like rain or you hear the thunder, we are advising you to get out of the pool area immediately. Also, tell your visitors or family about this situation.
The pool area was struck by lightning just a few years back, so please be cautious.
Better to be safe then sorry!!!!!!!!

I am looking for wedding anniversaries celebrated for each month of the year. We
have so many in this community who have shown wedded bliss for so many years and we
would like to acknowledge all.
Please submit to me (Phyllis) by the 15th of each month so it can be shared by all.
from Tom’s desk.
Hello Southfork,
Well it is summer time in Florida and it seems a little slow but we have
been pretty busy.
We had about 30 people attend our last movie night and that was
great. Our next movie is August 4th
.
We have Johnny Lobo to entertain us on the 11th
of August. He is
always great. It starts at 7pm @$7.00 per person.
I want to thank Jim & Nancy Holley for stepping up to become “block
captains” on Mesquite Dr. We also need alternate block captains to fill
in for the ones that go North for the summer, especially Ewing &
Mustang. Let me know if you are interested.
Bingo has restarted on Wednesday nights.
Thanks to all who volunteer for different committees and activities
and it is much appreciated. We are always looking for new people to
help. Thanks to Phyllis for her input and a great newsletter.
Thanks to the Audit committee, Katie Bellnier, Carol Sanborn and
Anita Warschkow for the audit of the treasurers books. Thanks Mike
for a great job.
Tom
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
SOUTHFORK CINEMA Tuesday August 4th!!
About 30 Southfork residents enjoyed the July Tuesday Night Movie, The Cobbler. We laughed,
our hearts got a little tug, and we were all very surprised at the ending!! Truly an enjoyable
show. Ice cream was added to the menu options and was devoured.
Our “CineBistro” is now serving all you can eat popcorn for 25cents, too much ice
cream for only $1.00 or bring your own snack and beverage. There’s plenty of
seating but feel free to bring your own comfy chair! Don’t forget, we take
requests!!! Something you want to see? Just let us know.
’Tuesday Night at the Movies will be August 4th @ 6:30pm.’
NOW SHOWING: ST. VINCENT starring Bill Murray,
Melissa McCarthy, Chris O'Dowd, Naomi Watts, Jaeden
Lieberher. This is Bill Murray at his best! You’ll laugh until
you cry.
Single mother Maggie moves into a new home in Brooklyn
with her 12-year-old son Oliver. Forced to work long hours,
she has no choice but to leave Oliver in the care of their new
neighbor, Vincent, a retired curmudgeon with a penchant for
alcohol and gambling. A parent’s worst nightmare!!
Women’s Club
On July 1st a group of ladies from the Women's Club had a
wonderful breakfast at the Village Inn , good food, good service and
on top of this everyone took a piece of their Favorite pie home.
We exchanged jokes and it was very enjoyable.
Mary Bolin mentioned that we received thank you letters from
Cornerstone and also from the Baptist Church and St Rita "Love One
Another" for our donations.
Mary mentioned also that in the Clubhouse there is a box for school
supplies. The box will be there until Aug. 15. Please be generous for
the people who are not lucky like us.
Next month on August 5th we will be going out at 9.30 at Sunrise
Eatery in Zephryhills. Please sign in the Clubhouse.
Marielle
Thank you Southfork
Thank you Southfork neighbors and friends for your get well wishes,
cards, gifts and prayers for me while I was in the hospital and rehab.
You are an amazing and caring community!
Sincerely, Anita Warschkow
Over The Hill (Hooray for Our Side)
We’re over the hill but don’t feel sad, This side of the hill ain’t all that bad.
So give us "five" and then a smile, To us who have been here for a while.
With by-pass pain and mended hip, And plumbing fixtures prone to drip,
We all may seem a sorry lot, But we rejoice for what we’ve got.
We have each day and what it brings, And on our pensions live like kings.
For the press that accuses what we take, To coin a clause, "Let them eat cake."
We’ve paid our share for unused knowledge As the kids are now all done with college.
We complain to them about our health, As they worry about our dwindling wealth.
And though our wardrobes may be plain , we’ll suffer no more labor pain.
Now it’s with cane we do our strut, And if we can’t drive, we still can putt.
We’re mean and tough, meet all demands, Why, M&M’s melt in our hands.
Yes, we’re still here, and it does delight us, That you join our fight against arthritis.
But we ask you make a pledge today, That you’ll be careful what you say.
We have to spread "Over the Hill" fear, Or we’ll have those young folks over here.
Clubhouse Bulletin Board
Please see the Clubhouse Bulletin Board for event details and sign up sheets for all scheduled
events. If you are interested in helping with any event or just in general, please contact
President Tom Geyer.
“NOTE”: All items that are placed on the bulletin board of the “For Sale Item’s etc” are listed
on the board in the library. Take a look for a service or item you may be looking for.
JOHNNY LOBO
Tues, 8/11 @7pm
Southfork’s favorite musical entertainer returns.
Tickets at summer reduced rate, $7.00.
Everyone marvels at Johnny’s ability to play just about any type of music, or
fake it, without any sheet music. He even has improvised our own Theme
Song!
If you have not attended one of his shows at “The River Ratz Café” or “Monkey
Island”, you will not want to miss this versatile entertainer.
You will find yourself humming or singing alone with him and everyone else.
Should you feel the urge to dance a step or two, go for it.
This is the last of our summer season performances and Thank You for your
support.
.
We believe an enjoyable evening awaits you.
Bring your own snacks and beverages, etc.
PS: Grass skirts are not required……but party shirts are.
Tuesday, July 14th was a great performance of the Mid-Life Crisis with Susan and
Reuban and they were awesome.
There were some 40 people attending and Reuban made my night when he sang
my all time favorite "Unchained Melody"........that is one song that would stop me
in my tracks if I ever heard it again.
They sang for 2 hours and impacted with such a good variety of songs and ending
with "God Bless America". A must see if you ever have a chance.

AUGUST, 2015 – IN FLORIDA
August is one month of the year that doesn‟t have a national holiday, nor any honorees that is calendar
worthy. There are, however, other things to celebrate - birthdays, anniversaries, and special events for
many families. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all the hot August folks! It is also one of the
hottest months of the year all over the United States. Here in Florida, we celebrate the “heat” for
several months and it is always discussed. I can't help but cite a popular saying by Kin Hubbard. He
says, “don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change
once in a while.” No changes here so that's why we wanted to see what some of the Southfork residents
think about the weather!
Just for Giggles and Grins - “IT IS SO HOT.................................................
“It's a free afternoon trip to the sauna in my own back yard. What more could I want?”
“Can't change it and I wouldn't if I could.”
“What hot weather? It's wonderful – if you stay inside!”
“Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it!”
“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!”
“I love it and am used to it now and expect this in Florida.”
“I saw a recent posting „Satan, Take Me Away‟!” (Well, it‟s hotter there!)
“It‟s hot, but I‟ll take it anytime over the northern winters!”
“I‟ll bet you could fry an egg on the concrete!”
“We need some rain – that would help. Folks on the Gulf are getting it all!”
“Where‟s the rain? Where‟s the beef?”
And last, but not least……………
“I just grin and 'bare' it!”
In closing, remember the famous adage: “God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot
change; the Courage to change the things I can; and the Wisdom to know the difference.” In this
case.....the WEATHER!!!! Thank you all for your input. I still need to hear from residents with other
story ideas, so help me out if you have something to tell and I‟d love sharing it for you! Next month
we‟ll be doing a story on “dining out” so I‟ll be in touch! Until then, have a great August and always
make it a great day – every day!

in our Southfork clubhouse.
TOPS Club Inc, (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit weight-loss support
organization. TOPS encourages weight loss and maintenance through mutual
support of sensible eating and exercise. The heart of that support comes during
weekly chapter meetings. It is a self-help group of like-minded people willing to
encourage one another, share information and help each other stay on track as
they develop enjoyable lifestyle changes. It is a safe place to talk, listen and be
inspired among people with similar experiences
TOPS offers information on health and nutrition, plus our weekly support,
encouragement and motivation at these meetings.
We have recipe exchanges from the ones who love to cook and experiment,
suggestions on what to do when you go out to eat and so many varied subjects
which will be discussed weekly.
We have motivation projects to keep all the members upbeat and wanting to
win, challenges for the ones that lose weight and so many other little things to
keep all interested.
So if you are on a diet and need some motivation, come join us on Saturday
mornings. We do not give out diets to follow but are a moral support group that
meet weekly!!!!!
Looking forward to seeing you there!!!!
