NAB Eastern Association Region Regional Minister Dr. David Ewing
THE REGIONAL RAG NAB 2015 Triennial Conference including prayer for Executive Director Dr. Dan Hamil plus
Eastern Association Highlights
July 31, 2015
From the July 9th NAB Update:
“We gather as God’s people in God’s presence to listen to God’s voice,
to learn from His word, and to love generously on each other.” With these words, Dr. Dan Hamil established the purpose for the 2015
Triennial Conference in Sacramento, CA. For five days a wonderful group of pastors, leaders, missionaries, international partners, church
members, and friends experienced the movement of the Holy Spirit as they were reminded that God has “sent” us all outward to proclaim
His gospel as missionary people. Speakers like Dave Johnson, Mark Buchanan, and Reggie McNeal stimulated our hearts and minds to
understand why and how God is sending us into the world. Breakout sessions helped us recognize how God is working in and through NAB
both internationally and locally. Great worship was led by a variety of NAB Northern California churches and rich times of fellowship were
provided through receptions, a special women’s ministry luncheon, and informal gatherings. Dr. Daniel Hamil was elected as the
Executive Director/CEO of the North American Baptist Conference. Dr. Hamil has served as the interim Executive Director over the last 18
months. God is moving us into a new season of cooperative ministry

Two NAB Missionary Couples Commissioned!
I received this report from Rev. Norm Poehlke, Vice President of Ministry Outreach with the North American Baptist Conference with the heading, “Off to Cameroon.”
Missionaries Lee and Beta Taylor were commissioned on Sunday, July 6, at the closing of the NAB Triennial Conference. On July 8th, Wednesday, they boarded the plane for France, and then on to Yaounde, Cameroon. Thanks to a generous offering at the Triennial, we praise God that they are very near reaching full support. Lee and
NAB has been working in Cameroon since the 1930s. We helped birth the Cameroon Baptist Convention that now has over 1,000 churches, 2 seminaries, 68 primary schools, 6 hospitals, 52 health centers and missionary children education.
Beta’s primary role will be teaching Physical Education at the Rain Forest International School where some of our missionary children will attend school this fall.
In mid-July, Missionaries Craig and Maureen Moody, who were also commissioned at the Triennial Con-ference, will be taking up their new ministry as house parents for those same NAB missionary children. We have built a hostel home right next door to the school campus so our missionary children can be
cared for by spiritually mature adults because they live so far from their parents.
We are still in need of financial support for the Moody’s. If your church is able to join this partnership, please contact Caryn Young at the international office [email protected]
Earlier in 2015 Norm Poehlke spent time in Cameroon assessing the hospital developments and the theological education status and the needs of the missionary children.
Rev. Dr. Dana Goodnough, Senior Pastor of Pittsford Community Church in the Rochester, NY, area gives this report on their 2015 CAMP KILIMANJARO VBS, an epic expedition through Proverbs. “Amazing” “Best week of the year” “Can’t wait until next year.” These comments from VBS volunteers
reinforce to us what a powerful week VBS is. With over 200 children in attendance each day, the journey to the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro has been an unforgettable trek for all those involved. On July 14th, when the Gospel message was presented 20 children came forward to accept Christ or recommit their lives to Him. The children donated enough
supplies for 139 care packs that we will give to the homeless in Rochester (including a Bible and a conversation about who Jesus is) – pretty amazing group! We cannot thank our volunteers enough. After 25 years of serving the Pittsford community we are so grateful for the support and assistance of all those involved.

When we met on July 21st we began our discussion of Michael Frost’s book, On the Road to Missional that is a journey to the center of the church. Chapter one is entitled, “Missio Dei” in an effort to see mission as bigger than evangelism. L-R Joe Willis-Holley, Chris Kelley – Pittsford, Mike Stephenson-Medina, Dana Goodnough – Pittsford, Dave Ewing-Buffalo, Jon Bransford-Palmyra, Brian Warner-Fairport, Mitch Evans-East Rochester, Kevin Wright-Getzville. We had spirited exchange and all agreed God wants us to join Him on His mission.

Our up-state New York pastor’s cluster meets every other month and this picture was taken July 21, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Medina, New York.
Rev. Brian Warner reports that Fairport Community Church is now on the road to missional initiatives including going out from the church to serve and attracting people to the church to hear the gospel and worship. Being “on mission” inside and outside the church reflects Jesus’ greatest mission of pro-claiming the salvation gospel.
Fairport CC has launched out on mission to a low income housing complex “The Pines.” During Canal Days church families set up a water station with fee lemonade to serve the community of 200,000 people. Pastor Brian has founded a FM radio station Z98.3 as a 24/7 outreach to the Rochester area ~ www.WZNY.org And inside
our fellowship we have made missional changes by bringing attenders into new levels of service especially in the new nursery teams and the greeters. Based on surveys we have made changes in both worship services including the traditional & the contemporary that has provided better service to our attenders ~ Praise God.
Rev Darrick Castonova, Pastor of TheWELLbufalo says that God is really good at writing stories of how He sweeps in to display his grace and power to help us when we mess up, and we are really good at messing up. God is not done with recreating us if we let Him write a new story into our lives that are so full of struggle. Just when we are ready to give up, He births something new out of brokenness. God has given us an opportunity to reclaim a community
for the Gospel. We are excited to see the new birth of souls who will come to a new understanding of who the Savior is ~ how much He loves them
We have just purchased a 45,000 sq. ft. former Catholic church, school, gym & rectory ~ it represents a place of community to breathe new life back into neighborhoods, families & individuals. We will now serve as one church out of two campuses 20 miles a part. We have this fresh opportunity to live an incarnational life in order to show the love of Jesus that so many have never heard or have forgotten. Part of God’s story with us is that because of a very generous giver, and an asset that we currently own, we will be able to be one church on two campuses with virtually no debt. We are missional serving outside & inside His church.
