“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”

Happy Mothers Day May 2015

To All Moms

A mother’s love is like a garden

Her children are the seeds

And as they grow, she tends to them,

Fulfilling all their needs.

Her kindness is like sunshine

That warms them as they flower.

Her nurturing like springtime rain

A soft and gentle flower.

A mother’s love is like a garden

Reflecting tender care,

For wherever there is beauty,

A mother’s love is there.

In Loving Memory, this Memorial Day

We set aside Memorial Day

Each and every year

To honor those who gave their lives

Defending what we hold dear.

In all the dark and deadly wars,

Their graves prove and remind us,

Our brave Americans gave their all

To put danger far behind us.

They made the ultimate sacrifice

Fighting for the American way;

We admire them and respect them

On every Memorial Day.

PLEASE DISPLAY YOUR FLAG ON THIS DAY TO

SHOW HOW PROUD WE ARE!!!!!!!!!

From Dot Cady Thank you all for a great turnout on the

Appreciation Day held in my honor. This was truly an amazing day and one I will not forget.

from Tom’s desk.

It seems just like yesterday that we were getting ready for the last

newsletter. I guess time flies when you are having fun. We were sure

busy in March and things will slow down some for the summer. The

activity committee will make sure that we will have many things to do.

They have a lot of good ideas, so watch the Bulletin board and the

newsletter.

We had our last monthly Saturday morning breakfast at the clubhouse

until Fall. Thank you Tom Robinson and all the crew and to all who

came and enjoyed the delicious food. Thanks to Joe and Janet

Lehman for all the good food on Wednesday’s. They sweat in the heat

and we do not have to cook. We had a great Easter Dinner and thanks

to all who came and for the good food. Many thanks to Jim & Carolyn

McAdams for a great “Out & About”. Yours truly got a little

misplaced..(smile).

Just remember one thing, the officers and directors are here to listen

and to help. Remember, we are a social organization. We will still

remain a community with neighbors helping neighbors. Southfork has

it’s own heart beat and we all must keep the heart beat healthy and

active.

Please keep a look out for any suspicious people and activity this

summer. “Please”, watch your speed in the park. Remember, cars and

golf carts don’t mix.

Let’s all have a great summer, “Tom”

Women’s Club

On April 1st , 35 Ladies had their monthly meeting in the Clubhouse and very well

decorated for Easter. In the Center of each table there was a basket with eggs and

bunnies all hand made by the ladies of the quilt committee what a group of talented

ladies.

Jane Martens, Dee Martin and Shirley Tiratto were our hostesses. Thanks for a job

well done and well decorated.

All the reports were read and approved.

Mary Bolin mentioned that all the little dresses a project of Carol Albers were given

locally and much appreciated. That was a very nice project.

Marge Otto did all the particulars to order a brick through Hospice for Shirley Rouer

who was in charge of the Charity Committee before Mary Bolin. The brick will be

displayed near the other bricks of Southfork members.

We talked about our annual Bazaar that will be held Nov 21st. A list was

circulated asking the members to make baskets which is very popular and we will

have a bake Sale, a raffle of items made by the Craft Committee, also we will have

Sloppy Jo’s in the morning starting at 10.30.

We had a delicious cake to celebrate the April's birthdays Mary Clifford and

Kathy Myers. Thanks to Tanya for the 4 bags she gave us to be raffled.

Jeanne Bittman gave a very nice presentation on how to make your house safer for

the elderly and tips on elder care. She also is available for small jobs if her schedule

is free.

Next month our last meeting of the season at the clubhouse, our hostesses will be

Sherry Glatfelter and Helen Stowe

See you there. Marielle

Happy Summer Vacation and Hurry BACK!

"IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER"

My mother was very young when she married and started a family,

she was kept very busy raising my sister, brother and me and taking

care of a 2 story home and beautiful flowers and kept up yard..

She and my father raised a huge garden planting corn and peas in a

row, then came tomatoes and cucumbers lots of veggies to hoe.

My mother sewed and made our clothes, canned veggies and made her

own soap, she washed on a washboard then graduated to a wringer

washer. Mother never complained as she hung her special wash on a

clothesline in the yard, (whites, colors, jeans, towels and sheets & the

misc items) and she cooked us delicious meals never saying she was

just too tired.

Her pies and cakes all were from scratch the chocolate icing was so

good and the homemade bread and pizza was to die for. I have tried to

do all she did but so far it seems I never could.

The dried apples and preserves, sugar cookies and snow-cream,

Saturday evenings after sleigh riding we were treated to hot chocolate

not like todays, all these were winter treats to sample again, would

be in a dream.

Mother has been gone for many years I miss our time together every

day, our one on one chats is so missed. If only she could visit again

but she has gone to heaven to stay and helping me in my thoughts

today.

(getting lost or making a wrong turn)-- it keeps you young? Anyhow , we have to

thank Jim & Carolyn McAdams for putting this thing together ( it takes a lot of

travel and planning before we get on our way)

Cleaning out your Freezer and Refrigerator And Cupboards

All you "Snowbirds" and others cleaning out your cupboards, freezer

and refrigerator. Mary Bolin reminded everyone that "DayStar" in Dade

City will take all items whether they were opened or not and they give

out food to the needy. They have large freezers and refrigerators and

can use all the food that can be donated. Besides Mary, you can also

contact Isabel Wirth here in the community because she is in charge

of that at Daystar. Don't throw anything away because it all can be

used.

Thanks to all in advance!

Pizza and Pool Party

Sunday, May 24th - 6:00 pm

Cost is $3.00 per person for pizza

To kick-off the upcoming Summer Season, we invite everyone to the Pool party.

Come up to the pool and socialize. You do not have to go in the pool to enjoy

the atmosphere.

We would like to see our new residents come up and join in our activities. You

are welcome to bring any other snacks you would like to bring along.

Please, sign up at the clubhouse so we may know how much pizza to order.

Please note that the pool will still be available for regular use by our residents

and the $3.00 charge is only for pizza. There will be enough pizza to satisfy

everyone’s hungry tummies.

Please bring your beverage of choice, but make sure it is in a plastic container

because we do not allow any glass around the pool area. Come and join us!!

Looking for a Reporter

I go into newsletters of various communities and most all of them

have a profile page to introduce residents to other residents,

especially the newcomers.

I have thought about this for a while and now I need some help. I am

looking for an on- site reporter who can take a picture of the resident,

whether they are new or someone who has lived in the park for a while

and write up an article on them. This could be a monthly feature

and something I think would add to the newsletter.

Hmmmm, maybe someone on the welcoming committee could be this

person I am looking for!!!!!

This would help everyone to know who everyone else is if they see

them walking or at the clubhouse for any games or activities. What

does everyone think about this? Please contact me

([email protected]) if interested and let me know your thoughts.

Kathy G, I still need your input and any others with articles.

I appreciate that Pete Logoyda takes the pictures of the various

events and submits them via facebook for all to see and then I capture

them to place in the newsletter. Thanks to all!

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT 511??????

This is for anyone ready to make a trip or to some of the “snowbirds” getting

ready to travel back North.

Dial 511 from your phone before hitting the road. The service provides real-time

travel information on all interstate highways in Florida, as well as Florida’s

turnpike. 511 lets you know about accidents, road construction, severe weather

conditions or other things that can slow you down. The traffic information is free

on your home phone.

When storms threaten Florida, a call to 511 will let you know before you leave so

you can plan ahead. 511 gives information about road conditions, congestion,

contraflow, suspended tolls and any road closings.

This is statewide information that can be accessed and it may ask which part of

the state do you want to know about. This is all real time reporting.

You can also access this information on the internet by going into:

www.Fl511.com to receive statewide and regional updates. The website

provides much of the same information as the phone call, plus additional

features, including traffic camera’s.

So before leaving on your trip, check out the site before leaving home or while

traveling throughout the state. It’s fast, easy and just a few clicks away.
