From the Pastors Desk Dear Parish Family, As you read this I will be sitting at a wedding reception in Hobart (Saturday evening) celebrating in joy the joining of John and Theresa in matrimony or getting ready to baptise (Sunday morning) a little miracle, in Layla Louise. I am excited about both although I have been keeping tabs on the weather in Hobart and I am probably not looking forward as much to that experience. I have very carefully gone through my wardrobe to pick out my thickest jumper and warmest coat!

In November 2013 the dad of the little miracle, Brendan fell from a moving car: thankfully the car was only travelling at 60kms and along a dirt road. Brendan hit the road and suffered some very serious damage to the back of his head. It was noted that it could have been worse, at the time however it was hard to see how that was possible. He was not expected to live. He did live and as each milestone was passed the doctors, not wanting to give false hope, would rattle of the chances of recovery: 5% chance of living, 5% chance of waking from his coma, 5% chance of not being in a vegetative state, 5% chance of no residual damage, 5% chance of going back to work and a normal life. He has defied the odds!

Brendans Grandmother was present at the Beatification of Mary MacKillop in Rome and returned from that event with a miraculous medal celebrating the Beatification but also blessed by the Pope. That medal sat on Brendans chest throughout the most critical part of his recovery. The doctors and nurses were very careful to remove the medal during medical procedures but equally careful to replace it when they had finished. A nurse would always stand to one side holding the medal so that it didnt get lost. Jenna too has had her medical issues and was told that it was unlikely that she would become a mum. Much prayer later Brendan has made a full recovery and together with his partner Jenna have now welcomed Layla Louise who will be baptised this coming Sunday. You might in your generosity pray for them as a family in faith during your Mass time this weekend.

As I move around our community I hear so many of your miraculous events, some as dramatic as Brendans but all of equal importance in your family and your faith life. Sometimes our most important miracle is our ability to simply live, to get up in the morning and to brush our teeth. I love hearing the stories of families reunited after a long separation, of forgiveness and reconciliation. I love hearing the if it hadnt been for stories, the split second decision that

Rosters Rosters for June and July are now available from the rear of the Church.

Soup Kitchen Thank you to all our generous parishioners who provided soup and other items for our Soup Kitchen.

We are in need of care packs and non-perishable foods and would be most grateful if you could provide them to us over the coming months. Items can be left in the church or brought to the Parish office.

The Soup Kitchen will remain a weekly commitment by our Church for the foreseeable future. Please notify those you know who may be in need. Many thanks.

Ministers of Communion (Special Ministers) Extra-ordinary Ministers of Communion (Special Ministers) are invited to a meeting on Tuesday 2nd June in Forster Church at 7pm.

Readers Readers are invited to a meeting on Thursday 11th June to be held in Forster Church at 7pm.

Both meetings will be followed by light refreshments in the Parish Hall. It will be an opportunity to chat through any issues or difficulties with these ministries and to talk with Fr Greg in an informal way.

New ministers and readers, or those thinking they might like to join the Roster are welcome to attend.

changed a life. I love hearing those moments a life was changed because of prayers answered and faith restored. These are the miracle stories as miraculous as any and they are all life-saving as well as life giving just because we welcomed Christ to our stories and events and he sat at our table.

    Have a great week,

    Fr Greg

Ecumenical Pentecost Service - Today A Pentecost service will be held today, May 24th at 6pm at the Salvation Army Church in Tuncurry. Come and celebrate the person and work of the Holy Spirit among the people of the Kingdom of God -followers of Jesus. It will also be an opportunity to meet the new High School Chaplains. All parishioners are invited to bring a plate to share on the supper table.

Parish Social Justice Group Activities The Dignity of the Human Person - God has imprinted his own image and likeness on human beings (cf. Gen 1:26), conferring on them an incomparable dignity ... In effect beyond the rights which one acquires by one's own work, there exist rights which do not correspond to any work performed, but which flow from one's essential dignity as a person. John Paul II, Centesimus Annus, 1991, #11

The Church sees in men and women, in every person, the living image of God himself. This image finds, and must always find anew, an ever deeper and fuller unfolding of itself in the mystery of Christ, the Perfect Image of God, the One who reveals God to the human person ... The whole of the Church's social doctrine, in fact, develops from the principle that affirms the inviolable dignity of the human person. Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church par. 105, 107

Human Dignity:- Recognises the sacredness of life and the dignity of

each individual human person as inviolable Ensures that every person, especially the most

    disadvantaged and marginalised, has reasonable

access to more than just the basic necessities of life Promotes the human rights especially of those who

lack access to services, or who may not have the opportunity to participate in significant community activities and discussions

Brings with it natural rights and duties.

The Churchs social teaching touches upon almost every area of our collective contemporary life. Every human person needs to have their rights protected and be given the opportunity to grow in freedom, dignity and love. The Parish Social Justice Group has recently supported the following activities and encourages all people to seek opportunities to embrace the message of the gospel in the local community:-

On Palm Sunday 24 people of all faiths gathered at the Peace Pole beside Wallis Lake in Lone Pine Memorial Park, Tuncurry, for a twilight vigil. Hosted by Great Lakes Rural Australians for Refugees, this community event was an opportunity to remember all asylum seekers still held in detention by the Australian Government and reflect on a more humane policy for people suffering persecution and exclusion.

On Saturday 11 April Great Lakes Rural Australians for Refugees hosted a Community Shared Dinner in the Parish Hall to welcome four Burmese Rohynga men, who were staying with a local family. These men, from one of the most persecuted minorities in the world, enjoyed sharing the meal and also spent time learning skills at the Wallis Lake Mens Shed. In the Gospel message, Matthew 25:35, I was a stranger and you welcomed me... we learn that Christ will consider done to himself the kind of treatment that is reserved to any human person, in particular, to the least among them, the stranger.

The local social justice discussion group creates opportunities for interested people to share ideas and respond to the social justice challenges of our time. The Parish Social Justice Group is open to the community and all are invited to attend the next meeting on Wednesday 27th May at 5:30pm to 6:45pm in the Parish Hall Meeting Room, Forster. Come along and bring a friend.
