This is our first newsletter of the Bengali Year 1422

that started on April 15, 2015 (Christian Era).

So we hope it is never too late to wish you…

1. Meeting with village Munda women members of SAMMSS. On the 17th April 2015 in the morning at 10 o’ clock we arranged a meeting at Jisur Nam Ashram. The people present at that meeting were: Fr Luigi, Nilima Munda, who is Directress of SAMMSS, and a lot of members of SAMMSS (Sundarban Adibashi Munda Mohila Somobay Somiti), the small co-operative we have set up. This meeting started with a short speech by Nilima Munda. At first she invited the members to introduce themselves. She talked about loans and she said that those who have taken loans from our co-operative must obey the rules of SAMMSS and pay back those loans in due time. Then Champa Munda spoke and gave the financial report of the co-operative. Then Bahamoni talked about the monthly meetings she arranges for the village girls and requested the mothers of those girls to send them to attend those meetings as they will be able to learn many new things. At last Nilima Munda finished the meeting by thanking those who were present for their attendance, paid their traveling expenses and wished them all the best.

2. A new guest. A new guest came to this place two weeks ago. His name is Mr. Giovanni Ciapponi. He is an Italian citizen and a very good technician. He is 72 years old but he can still work very hard. He has travelled all over the world and he has been offering his technical skills in different mission outstations in Africa, Asia and South America. He will be with us until next month and will be helping with the construction of the new house. We’ll be grateful to him forever.

3. Two new girls. There were 16 Munda girls in this place. Two more girls came here three weeks ago. Their names are Parmita and Hoymonti. They are in class six. We welcome them and look after them so that they may be able to get a good education and have a successful life. May the Lord bless them!

4. Construction of the new house. You may know that a new house is being built here. The main structure of the building has already been finished. We are confident that the masons will be able to finish their work before the rainy season starts. As soon as the new building will be finished almost a dozen of Munda girls will get accommodation there.

5. Visit to Jessore airport and meeting three future Munda nurses. On the 16th April of 2015 six Munda girls had the opportunity to visit Jessore airport and Fatima Hospital. We started our journey in the afternoon from our living place. We spent one night in the guest house of Rishilpi in Satkhira. The next morning we went to see Jessore airport and Fatima Hospital. Here we met the three future Munda nurses (Monjhuri, Shopna and Parboti). They were very happy to see us. We’ll remember that day as we enjoyed it very much.

6. Urmila’s new poultry farm. Urmila has started a new poultry farm. This time she is fattening one hundred chiks. Within a month these chiks will be ready to be sold and eaten. We are confident that this time Urmila will get a good profit.

7. Golok’s honey production Also Golok Munda is supposed to get a good profit from his work as bee keeper during this time of the year. During the two months of April and May all the bee keepers of this area bring their hives to the villages situated in front of the Sunderban Forest which is full of flowers during this time of the year. So honey production is quite abundant.
