LOG OUR VOLUNTEER HOURS

We encourage all instructors to log their volunteer hours in the VA Voluntary Services system. Chapters with multiple instructors may want to ask their VS office to establish a G4V Volunteer Group to consolidate all the teacher hours for that chapter. This information is important to the VA and to G4V.

Note from the editor: Here at Loma Linda I'm going to request that subgroups be created under the “G4V Volunteer Group” for Instructors and Support Volunteers.

Closing

“Profound thanks to you all for your continued support and dedication. We could not do this without each and every one of you; you are all greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share this with your teams.”

– Bernie Kampf - National Chapter Coordinator

Chapters of the Southwest Region

Bill Protzmann will assist Roger Hewins, G4V Board Chairman and President, to help funnel all non-operational opportunities through him to the Board for consideration. Therefore, instead of taking such things through Eric or Patrick, going forward please email Bill Protzmann directly cc Roger and we will get proper attention for them and discussion about them.

This will also help the HQ team of Eric and Bernie keep their focus on program delivery while presenting your new opportunities at the correct level. As always Bill is glad to discuss and brainstorm.

The goal here is to empower more trust by HQ in the leadership on the ground: you!

Recent Changes and AdditionsAt the Loma Linda VA Medical Center Certified Peer Support Specialist employed as part of the VA Medical Treatment Team may now refer Veterans to the G4V Program. Hot DealsHonorably-discharged veterans can get a County-issued photo ID from a County V.A. office.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved issuance of Military Veteran ID Cards similar to those currently available in several California counties including Kings County and Butte County. Honorably-discharged veterans can apply for an ID card from the County V.A. office in Hesperia, Rancho Cucamonga or San Bernardino and be issued a card.

For an application form and more information go to: http://hss.sbcounty.gov/VA/Veteran_ID.htm

The main purpose of the ID Card is to make our county’s veterans easily and surely recognizable to any area merchant that offers a benefit to veterans who patronize their business. Some local merchants already offer various benefits to veterans, such as a discount on purchase, a free item, or preferred status. With this card, the veteran will not need to carry a copy of their military discharge papers to prove their Veteran status, nor will they need to go to the Loma Linda V.A. hospital to apply for an ID card which may or may not be issued.

This program has the potential to benefit all involved: Veterans will have ready proof of their status as an honorably-discharged veteran and they will benefit from patronizing Vet-Friendly businesses. Business owners may recognize increased sales as veterans and those who support them choose to frequent Vet-Friendly businesses over competitors. County VA will also benefit as we identify veterans who may be eligible for federal monetary benefits that we can help them obtain, which in turn helps the community at large.

Tips and Tricks

Practicing guitar a little every day is much better than a whole lot a couple of times a week. Have a strategy (plan), set a reasonable goal and a deadline. Learning to play a song you like is much easier than struggling with a tune you are not familiar with or don't like. If learning to play guitar was easy everybody would be doing it. I believe anybody can learn to play and have fun with the guitar BUT you ought to know that it will take time, energy, focus and above all commitment. So suit-up, show-up and don't quit.
