COLLEGE INTRAMURALS 2014 DEPARTMENT OF EVENTS MANAGEMENT ACADEMICS: ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION (ENGLISH) I. Eligibility and Qualification of Participants Participants must be enrolled in any undergraduate, graduate, post- graduate, and vocational-technical programs of the university during the first semester of the current academic year (AY 2014-2015). Participants will represent their college, school, or center where they are enrolled. A maximum of three (3) representatives are allowed to join per college, school, or center. Official registration sheets are available through the respective student councils. Student councils will be given the liberty on how to choose their final participants. Student councils are expected to give the registration sheet on 10 September 2014, 6:00 PM, to Schaneen Gaye Poloyapoy. II. Competition Guidelines Competition will be held on 17 September 2014, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Venue for the competition will be communicated as soon as the venue is reserved. Contestants are expected to come on time since a fifteen-minute orientation (1:00 PM to 1:15 PM) will be given before the essay writing proper. Failure to come on time will mean disqualification. The theme of the composition will be given during the orientation. The entry composition should contain three hundred (300) to five hundred (500) words. The entry will be penalized with 5% deduction from the total number of points if the composition does not conform to the required number of words. The contestants will be given one hour and fifteen minutes (1 hour, 15 minutes) to write their essay composition. Entries will be judged according to the following criteria: I. Content 65% Knowledge of the subject 25% Practicality of Proposal 10% Originality 15% Subject Matter is Well Organized/Clarity of Presentation 15% II. Composition 25% Vocabulary 15% Conformance to Length 10% III.
