When legislators prematurely eliminated the Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF), UW Impact advocates mobilized to preserve a vital source of science research dollars for the UW. Advocates sent more than 1,500 messages urging lawmakers to veto the budget line eliminating LSDF funding. Governor Inslee heard the message. His budget veto – backed by the support of a bipartisan group of legislators – protects UW’s ability to continue developing life-saving research, fostering economic growth and supporting jobs in Washington State. BARBARA BAILEY (R-10) As chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, she sponsored the REAL Hope Act (the Senate version of the DREAM Act), and championed a bill to create administrative efficiencies in the Senate.
