DEDICATED DAWGSThese lawmakers
renewed their
commitment to
higher education in
the following ways:
TOP DAWGSGovernor Jay Inslee earns UW Impact’s Top Dawg
award in acknowledgement of his efforts to preserve
critical research at the UW and across the state.
When legislators prematurely eliminated the Life
Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF), UW Impact advocates
mobilized to preserve a vital source of science
research dollars for the UW. Advocates sent more
than 1,500 messages urging lawmakers to veto the
budget line eliminating LSDF funding.
Governor Inslee heard the message. His budget
veto – backed by the support of a bipartisan group
of legislators – protects UW’s ability to continue
developing life-saving research, fostering economic
growth and supporting jobs in Washington State.
SEN. BARBARA BAILEY (R-10)As chair of the Senate Higher
Education Committee, she sponsored the REAL Hope Act
(the Senate version of the DREAM Act), and championed a bill to create administrative
efficiencies in the Senate.
REP. ZACK HUDGINS (D-11)Prime sponsor of the DREAM Act and tireless champion for
expanding higher education opportunities for all students
in Washington State.
