WELCOME TO OGDEN!_________________ ____________

Welcome to Ogden, Utah, the Crossroads of the West! The Ogden/Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to serve host to USA Cycling athletes and fans with an experience that goes beyond the expected through the community’s natural beauty, stimulating culture, and love-at-first-sight appeal. The rich personality derives from a unique balance of downtown Ogden’s vibrant shopping, dining, and nightlife with backyard access to year-round outdoor recreation and the majestic beauty of the Wasatch Mountain Range.

Ogden is not your typical anything. Immerse yourself in the unique “mountain to metro” allure that makes this magnificent high adventure, natural playground the perfect travel destination for work, play, or a little bit of both. In just one day you can shop the eclectic boutiques and art galleries of Historic 25th Street, plummet down a double black diamond backcountry bowl at Snowbasin and Powder Mountain Ski Resorts, enjoy a sumptuous evening meal at a downtown restaurant, then settle in for a cozy evening in one of the many great hotels.

Once a lawless frontier town teeming with larger-than-life legends and colorful characters (crime boss Al Capone himself was heard to comment that Ogden was too wild a town even for him), Ogden today is all about one thing: making you feel at home while setting the stage for genuine adventure. Ogden was incorporated as a city in 1851, making it the 3rd incorporated city west of the Missouri River behind only San Francisco and Salt Lake City.

Ogden’s natural affinity to outdoor recreation and the community’s support and passion for sports makes it the perfect destination for the 2014 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships. Go to www.visitogden.com/usac to help assist you while you are here. Enjoy your time in Ogden!

Average high/low temperatures for early September: 83˚F/52˚F Sunrise/sunset for early September: 6:58am/7:53pm

Under no circumstances will riders be allowed to register for a race on the day of the event, as start sheets will have already been finalized and printed. There will be no registration on Saturday. Riders may pick up their packet for free during Tuesday hours at the Union Station lobby (2501 Wall Ave Ogden, UT 84401) or during listed on-site hours Wednesday through Saturday. A courtesy TT bike check will be available Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. in the Union Station Plaza (outside of the registration area). You may not pick up someone else’s packet for them. All riders must pick up their own packet in person. You must present your valid USA Cycling license or a photo ID at registration/packet pick-up.

Important Note: What’s the difference between Packet Pick-Up and Registration? Registration is when you sign up to do a race, and pay the entry fee. Packet Pick-Up is when you sign your waivers and receive your bib number.

We are excited to bring you one of the most amazing time trial venues in the state of Utah. The Antelope Island Team Time Trial course is a rolling course on beautiful asphalt with views of the Wasatch Mountain Range on the horizon. Antelope and bison roam the grasslands on either side of the road, giving it an old west feel. Antelope Island is a Utah State Park and they have a small usage fee for participants to access the course, so be prepared to pay a park fee prior to arriving at the island. Athletes are strongly recommended to pre-pay the park fee online prior to the event. You can find the online parking fee payment option via the registration link here: https://www.usacycling.org/myusac/index.php?pagename=registration&eventid=13&year=2014. Otherwise, athletes will be able to pay the parking fee prior to picking up packets at packet pick-up. The event fee will be $5.00 Per TT event participant.

The Start/Finish line will be located near E 2500 S and Kiesel Ave. The course runs clockwise.

Staging for each race will take place 20 min prior to each start.

There will be neutral support provided in two fully staffed neutral wheel pits. One pit will be just before the finish line and the second will be on the corner of 26th and Washington Blvd.

Call-ups will be done for defending National Champions and National Champions moving up an age group.

Free Lap Rule: Riders shall normally cover the distance of the race regardless of mishaps and must make up any distance lost on their own ability unless a free lap is granted for mishaps. A free lap may be granted for each mishap subject to the following rules unless the official race announcement states that no free laps will be allowed. Bicycle inspection and repairs must be made in an official repair pit. A rider who is granted a free lap must return to the race in the position held at the time of the mishap. A rider who was in a group shall return at the rear of the same group the next time around. A rider granted a free lap must re-enter the race before the final 8km of the race; after that point in the race a rider in the pit is losing ground on the field.

RULES, REGULATIONS, & ELIGIBILITY_________ _________

The following is a brief overview of USA Cycling National Championship rules. For full details, please see: www.usacycling.org/usa-cycling-rule-book.htm.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

1. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A CURRENT & VALID USA CYCLING LICENSE WITH THE PROPER CATEGORY AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Riders who attempt to register, but do not hold a current and valid USA Cycling license, will NOT be allowed to complete the registration process until they can provide a valid USA Cycling license number. In order to avoid this situation, please make sure that your USA Cycling profile is current and includes your USA Cycling license number.

ELIGIBILITY

1. At the time of registration, all participants MUST meet the minimum required category for the respective event according to the 2014 USA Cycling Rule Book. Riders attempting to register for an event without having the required category will be removed from the registration list with no refund provided. 2. All participants MUST be either a U.S. citizen or permanent residents (green card). 3. All participants MUST have a racing age of 35 or over (including tandems). Riders with a racing age of 35 or over who hold Elite status per USA Cycling rules may NOT compete in the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships. This includes riders who:

• Are, or have been, members of a UCI-registered team of any type (road, track, MTB) in the calendar year of the championship. • Have competed in the Elite category of a UCI World Championship, Continental Championships or World Cup in the road discipline in 2014.

4. All participants MUST race in the current age class as shown on their 2014 USA Cycling license. Riders MAY NOT race up or down in racing age class.

RULES

1. BICYCLE REGULATIONS: In general, the regulations for bicycles are those of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Please refer to the UCI rule book: www.uci.ch/Modules/BUILTIN/getObject.asp?MenuId=MTkzNg&ObjTypeCode=FILE&type=FILE&id=34033&LangId=1. However, the following exceptions will be made:

If the handlebars are at 75 cm extension* or less, there will be no measurement of the 5 cm rule for saddle position. If the handlebars are between 75-80 cm extension, then the saddle must be at the 5 cm behind vertical position. For riders 6’3” or taller, extensions can go to 85 cm.

There will be no requirement that the handlebars be below the saddle. * Note that when bar end shifters are used, the extensions are measured from the ends of the shifters and not the pivot bolt. The measurement is taken using an arc made by the shifter, measured in a horizontal direction. Thus, whether the bars are straight or angled up, the measurement will be the same.

There will not be strict enforcement of the 3/1 rule. The following bicycles are therefore considered legal for masters national championships in 2014:

o Specialized Transition o Specialized Shiv o Giant Trinity o For any other bicycle that is not UCI legal due to the 3/1 rule, please contact USA Cycling

Technical Director, Shawn Farrell ([email protected]) to make sure it is legal for this event.
