Welcome to our BUMPER edition of our Salisbury Snippets
for 2014.
Another year is nearly over and it has been a very successful
one at that. All the Educators have worked at such a high
standard following the Early Years Learning Framework
(EYLF) to ensure your Children get the highest quality of
care and education. Your input and suggestions are highly
important to us so please spare a few minutes to look at all
the hard work the girls have put in to the curriculum and
write down any comments or suggestions you may have.
Your feedback will help us to ensure your Children’s interests
are included in our daily routine. There is also a suggestions
and comments journal in the foyer for you to write in. Thank
you for all the positive feedback we have already received,
it has been a wonderful year so far and we look forward to
our Christmas Celebrations ahead.
Sadly we will be saying a few goodbyes to some wonderful
families this year. You have been a huge part of Salisbury
and it has been so nice watching your Children grow
and learn starting in the Bumblebees room through to
the Dragonflies room. Watching them go through these
different stages of learning has been so rewarding. We will
miss you all so please remember to come and visit us. To all
the families who are staying on in 2015, we look forward to
seeing you in the New Year.
THANK YOU
Silvana and Ewa
Welcome
“We wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a happy and safe NEW YEAR”from All the staff at Salisbury
STAFFING NEWSYou may have noticed a few new faces around the
centre. We would like to welcome Sara and Ashley to
our centre. They are both Qualified Educators and
have worked with Children for many years. Sara is in
the Bumblebees room taking over from Loretta to
which we sadly said goodbye to her in August. Loretta
has been a huge part of our centre for aproxiamently
four years. We will sadly miss her contagious laugh
at Salisbury, she was loved by everyone and it’s
always nice when she pops in for a visit to say “hello”
Sadly we also have to say goodbye to Diana that has
been at Salisbury for over 22 years. She has watched
this centre grow in to what it is today and has seen
and adjusted to the different changes over the years.
She completed her diploma a few years ago and
always put her heart and soul while at the centre.
Diana guaranteed to give us all a laugh a day. The
stories she told always put a smile on our face and
a good laugh too! It is so, so hard to say goodbye to
such a wonderful role model, we will miss you Diana.
Diana has written us a letter to say thank you and goodbye.
CHRISTMAS CLOSUREThe centre will be closing at 6pm on Tuesday
the 23rd December and re-open again on
Tuesday the 07th January 2015. You will not
be charged during the time we are closed.
THANK YOUJust want to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful
families that have helped us throughout the year,
especially our PAC members. Thank you John to doing
such a fantastic job with our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
earlier this year, we look forward to doing it again next
year. I would also like to thank Mike Matusik for his
generous donation AGAIN for the AGM raffle. Last year,
Mike kindly donated a watch and this year three beautiful
Bracelets and earrings to put towards the raffle. I would
also like to thank Jennifer Turner for the perfume, Pinna
Tanno for the Arbonne products and Nicole Marshall for
the Peter Rabbit books, your generous donations were
greatly appreciated and we had very happy winners too!
Lastly I would like to thank Baden and Frank for
cooking the sausages, Rachel Masters for holding
the meeting and Betti, Christina and Amanda
for serving the sausages at this year’s AGM.

dragonfliesThe dragonflies’ room have had a wonderful year with the
children all busily involved in a range of exciting projects
and learning experiences. The beginning of the year start-
ed with a focus on recycling, sustainability and water con-
servation. This has continued throughout the year with the
children carrying out their weekly jobs of taking out the
recycling and feeding the worms as well their daily job of
watering the vegetable patch and garden.
We then started a project on healthy eating which the
children really enjoyed. The project started with a puppet
show incursion about healthy eating, the children abso-
lutely loved this and talked about the show afterwards.
We then started to learn about foods that are good for
our body and the children wanted to make one of their fa-
vourite healthy recipes. We decided to plan an excursion
to Coles so that the children could experience buying the
ingredients needed to make corn and zucchini muffins.
Another exciting project that the children have been in-
volved in was learning about African animals. This project
arose from the children’s interest and educators collabo-
rated with the children to extend their learning through
various experiences. We then organised an excursion to
the Zoo so that the children could see some of the animals
that we had been learning about. The Zoo was a big hit
with all the children, they were all just so excited and the
day was enjoyed by all. I think it is fair to say that every-
body was exhausted afterwards including staff.
This year we ran the PALS program again as it was so en-
joyed by the children the previous year. The PALS program
is designed to help young children develop a range of so-
cial behaviours that will help them to form friendships and
get along with others. The program consists of ten sessions,
each focusing on a different skill that teaches children the
required skills for social interaction. Each session uses
puppets, songs, story- telling and role playing and the
children loved being involved in the sessions and learnt
a lot as well.
More recently we had our AGM and the children had a
special dance to perform. We first began to practice the
dance a few months ago with the children helping to
choose the song. The decision of joining two songs to-
gether was made as these were the songs which were
the most popular among the children. The children all
worked really hard on practising and perfecting the
dance in the weeks leading up to the AGM and they
were so excited about performing it for their families.
When the night arrived the children did a fantastic job
and most importantly they had, the staff were so proud
to see this after all the children’s hard work.
Well the year is quickly coming to a close and the edu-
cators in the dragonflies room would like to say a big
thank you to all families for the privilege of being with
your child this year, we have loved watching them grow
and develop.
Love Chevon, Disa, Mare and Marilyn
we love ourdragonglies carers
such as rewards charts and positive feedback with their
attempts, in being successful.
It’s been another wonderful year and we look forward
to seeing you all again next year, for an even better one.
We would like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas
and a safe and happy new year, filled with lots of love and
laughter. Merry Christmas Everyone
Love the Ladybugs room
Emma, Rachel, Sabine, Maria, Diana and Ashley
ladybugsWe have enjoyed some wonderful events lately; we
had an awesome time on our excursion to Noranda
childcare centre and Park. For most of us it was our very
first daycare excursion, and everyone had an absolute
ball, loving everything from the bus ride, to meeting
some new little friends. It was lovely to see all our
families at our Father’s Day and AGM night. Everyone
appeared to have a great time at the AGM, with the
children especially loving all the face painting and
seeing their faces on the big screen. We hope you all
enjoyed our little presentation too.
We have all loved watching our chickens hatch from
eggs, and have all shown such respect and kindness in
taking such good care of them. Showing curiosity and
an eagerness to investigate, and gain knowledge of a
chickens lifecycle, and questioning what other animals
hatch from an egg.
Some of our favourite things to do have been
experimenting and exploring through a variety of
activities; such as, water play with bubbles, dye and
ice, and constructing using different materials. We
have also had lots of fun, and shown a keen interest in
the Farmyard corner, collecting the pretend eggs, and
doing lots of imaginative dramatic play.
Christmas is nearly upon us, and we will be getting
ready to celebrate all the festivities shortly. Most of us
are very enthusiastic and excited about the prospect
of Santa coming and will be beginning to write their
Christmas wish lists soon. With the year flying by, we
are also getting very excited about, soon graduating
up to the dragonflies room.
The group are really getting cracking on their toilet
training, ready for the big kindy room. Whilst some
children take to it like a duck to water, some can be
a bit resistant to try. We aim to make this a positive
experience for the children and sometimes they need a
little extra encouragement and positive reinforcement,

bumblebees
Hello from the Bumblebees room
Well it’s crazy to think that another year is nearly over! We have had
so many laughs and created some wonderful memories together
that we will cherish forever. We have loved watching all of the chil-
dren’s little personalities grow.
Most of the children are getting that little bit older now and becom-
ing big toddlers, we have Audra and Ebony orientating to the Lady-
bugs room at the moment and they will be moving up in no time.
We are going to miss them very much but we know they are going
to have a great time in their new room! To cater for the other children
we will start to put them on mattresses and encourage them to drink
out of cups, preparing them for the transition to Ladybugs room.
As we are getting into the nice warm weather we have been focus-
ing on being sun smart, teaching the children to ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’. We
would appreciate if you could all check that your child’s hat fits them
or if they need a new hat and bring them a new one if necessary. It
is also our policy that your children wear a t-shirt out in the sun so
please ensure they have one stored in their bags.
We are coming into the festive season now which we are all looking
forward to, so in the upcoming months we will be very busy making
Christmas decorations and preparing everything ready to be taken
home.

RED NOSE DAY 2014
Today we celebrated Red Nose Day to support SIDS and KIDS and everybody came
to day care dressed in red. Disa was also kind enough to paint all of our noses red
which was a lot of fun. We then all sat for a group photo to show off our red
outfits as well as red noses.
Learning outcome 2) Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Children broaden their understanding of the world in which they live by helping to
support SIDS and KIDS.
Principle 4) Respect for diversity
Educators recognise that diversity contributes to the richness of our society and
provides a valid evidence base about the ways of knowing.
Pyjama Day 18.06.14
Learning outcome 2) children have a strong sense of identity
Children demonstrate a sense of belonging in their environment, they feel
safe, secure and supported in their interests.
Today all the children and staff wore their Pyjamas
to day care. All the children looked cute in their
pyjamas and we all had a fun day with movies and
popcorn.
The Gingerbread Man
Puppet ShowMonday June 9th
As planned we are introducing healthy eating this month in
accordance with our annual intentional teaching plan. What
a fantastic way to start the topic, with a puppet show. The
show began with children learning about healthy food to
put in their lunch boxes. The show then went on to a
puppet show which was a unique take on the traditional
tale with creative puppets. The show’s messages were
about healthy eating and go for 2 and 5 a day. The children
thoroughly enjoyed the show and learnt a lot as well.
Jett – “I liked the cat”
Ciaralee‐ “I liked the gingerbread man
Addison – “The gingerbread man was funny”
Jude – “The fox ate the gingerbread man
Oscar – “I like the fox”
Zak – The fox eat him”
Jasmine – I like the fox as well”
Zeke – “Yeah that was funny when the fox ate the
gingerbread man
Charlotte – I like the gingerbread man the best”
Neve – “I liked the biscuit”
Learning outcome 3) Children have a strong sense of
wellbeing
Children about healthy lifestyles and nutrition.
Practice: Intentional teaching
Educators plan opportunities for intentional teaching and
knowledge building.

Our Easter Egg
Hunt!
16th April 2014
Today Emma said she saw the Easter Bunny hopping around in the garden. So we decided to go investigate and see if he had left anything behind. As we searched and discovered high and low, we found that the easter bunny enjoyed everything from eating our vegies to playing on the swing and hopping right round the centre .Working together to find some eggs that the easter bunny had left, we decided we should share them out and put them in our own easter baskets that we had made.
Everyone joined in the search and shared in their discoveries.
We all had such a fantastic time and were so excited!
Today one of our special mums, whom works as a
dental nurse came in to visit us and talk to us about
how important it is for us to look after, and clean our
teeth. With the help of douge the dog, Nurse Skye
talked about and showed us how we brush and clean
our teeth, using a toothbrush, toothpaste and even
special string called Dental Floss!
Celebrating Dental Awareness Week
We discussed how some foods are very good for our teeth and bodies
and that eating these foods, would make our teeth clean and strong.
These foods we called everyday foods because we should eat them
everyday.
We also looked at some food and drink that
were bad for our teeth, and we called these
sometimes foods because we should only eat
them sometimes, so that they didn’t hurt our
teeth.
We brush our teeth up
and down, round and
round in little circles,
side to side, making sure
we brush every tooth

We talked about how when we go to the dentist we sit in a big
chair and the dentist asks us to open wide so they can see all
of our teeth. Skye also talked about what a dentist wears e.g. a
mask to help stop the spread of germs and glasses to protect
the dentist’s eyes from getting water in them.
We also talked about what tools a dentist uses like a little
mirror and other tools. Then Skye got us to all line up so she
could see our teeth and give us a big sticker for listening so
well.
Skye told us that when we are little
we all have 20 ‘baby teeth’, and
then when we are 6 or 7years old
are baby teeth start to get wobbly
and fall out so that we can grow
adult teeth.
.
When a baby tooth falls out, we can put it under our
pillow and the tooth fairy will come take It, and leave a
little surprise for us to say thankyou.

CRAZY HAIR DAY Friday 14th March 2014
We had a very busy Friday afternoon, to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
After we woke up from our afternoon sleep, our hair was
styled and coloured with hair spray. The hair spray tickled our heads and felt funny!
Then, we decided to get the face paint out as well. We had spidermen, butterflies, flowergirls, and a fairy princess! We were all very pleased and excited with our bright outrageous make‐overs. We had lots of fun “getting into character", and
portraying our make‐up personalities.
We put our donations in the collection box in the hallway.
Principle 1 ‐ Secure, Respectful and reciprocal relationships: “Educators… help children to learn about their responsibilities to others, to appreciate their connectedness and interdependence as learners, and to value collaboration and teamwork. Practice ‐ Learning through play: “When children play with other children they create social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new understandings. Children’s immersion in their play illustrates how play enables them to simply enjoy being. Learning Outcome – Children have a strong sense of identity: When children have positive experiences they develop an understanding of themselves as significant and respected, and feel a sense of belonging.
AUSTRALIA DAY FUN
Today we celebrated Australia Day. We started the celebration by having Vegemite on toast for morning tea. We then continued the day by having water play outside. The children all brought in there bathers and towels and enjoyed running under the water spray with their friends.
The children did Australian activities such as painting the Australian flag and reading Australian stories at mat session. We talked about Australia – the flag, the animals we have and the types of food that is eaten.
For lunch we had meat pies and sausage rolls with tomato sauce and fruit. As it was Gingers last day she brought in chocolate ice creams, we also had lamingtons.
What a great Australia Day- AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!
Learning outcome 4) Children are confident and involved learners
Today children expressed wonder and interest in their environment. They used play to investiagte, imagine and explore, they participated in creative play experinces with enthusiasm.
Practice: Learning thorugh play
Educators provide play experinces to encourage children to explore, solve problems and imagine. Educators understand the value of children’s play and how it can expand children’s thinking and enhance their desire to learn.
