2014 Scholarship Program

Seven scholarships equal to $2000 CAD will be awarded to seven Canadian students who will be attending college or university in Canada in September 2014. Applicants will be students who will be graduating high school in June 2014. The winning applicants will be young Canadians who have achieved a high level of academic and leadership standards over the years.

The Awards One "CSSA Scholarship Foundation" award will be offered in each of the following five regions: Atlantic Canada · Quebec · Ontario Prairies (Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Alberta) · British Columbia.

One Sam Tughan Scholarship to be awarded to a qualified individual studying Medicine.

One Geoffrey H. Wood Scholarship to be awarded to a qualified individual studying Education.

An application form for the 2014 Scholarship Program may be downloaded from the CSSA web site at www .cssa.com The information package will be in pdf format.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS MUST BE COMPLETED BY JUNE 2, 2014

The winners of the 2014 scholarships will be determined by the Board of Directors Selection Committee of the CSSA Scholarship Foundation, and will

be notified by July 2, 2014

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

THE COMPLETE APPLCATION PACKAGE MUST BE RECEIVED AT THE CSSA OFFICE BEFORE JUNE 2, 2014 AND MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Applicant Information Form completed in detail.

2. Photograph (head & shoulders, 2" x 3" max) with name printed on the back. The photograph will be used for promotional purposes only. The photo must be an original, or - if only available in digital format - the applicant is asked to maintain a high-resolution jpg format on file.

3. Official high school transcript for the most recent year.

4. Essay on: "The use of EcoLogo certified green cleaning products is growing across Canada. EcoLogo certified products are non-toxic to humans and aquatic life as well as being safer on the environment. Does your school use EcoLogo certified products? Ask your Custodial personnel if they do and if they believe they do an effective job of cleaning vs the old style products. What products (brands) do they use? What are their likes and dislikes? IF your school has chosen not to use EcoLogo certified products, what are the reasons that prevent them from doing so?"

5. Applicants are asked to retain a copy of their essay on their computer until July 2, 2014

6. Typed resume to include details on the following : · Name · Planned occupation or profession · High school information

Name of school and years attended Name and contact information of a counsellor or teacher Graduation date - expected or achieved

· College or University information Name of Institution you will be attending Program Name and contact information of Registrar Expected year of graduation

· Employment history - full and part-time work · Activity and Leadership record to include:

Academic and sports activities Volunteer activities at school and in the community Honours and Awards Hobbies

7. Applicant Evaluation Form completed by a counsellor or teacher.

To be considered for the 2014 Scholarship Award, the entire application package must be received by regular mail and post marked no later than June 2, 2014. No exceptions will be made. Only the winners will be notified by July 2, 2014. The award will be forwarded by August 11, 2014 to the cashier of the recipient's chosen college or university. The award is not renewable.

Judging Criteria

The following criteria will be used in judging the 2014 submissions:

· The applicant's ability to read and fully comprehend the terms and conditions of the Application Procedure.

· The applicant's ability to ensure that all components of the application - the Applicant Information Form, 2" x 3" photo, the essay, the transcripts, the evaluation form and the typed resume are received by the CSSA Scholarship Foundation office post marked no later than June 2, 2014.

· The applicant 's academic achievements as well as school activities, volunteer-ism and social achievements.

·The quality of the essay ... originality, clarity, grammar and presentation. Please include the word count at the bottom of the essay.
