2014 Rookie Tournament Rosters Release and Leafs Autograph Session Announced

From September 13-16, Budweiser Gardens will host four hockey teams of prospective NHL players from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2014 Rookie Tournament presented by Source for Sports and Warrior. Each team will play three separate games against each team as the city of London, Ontario anticipates world class hockey, hosting players from Canadian, American, and International leagues. On Thursday August 28th, each NHL team collaboratively released their official rosters for the event. London hockey fans will recognize a few faces with six London Knights named.For the Toronto Maple Leafs, Matt and Ryan Rupert, twins from Grand Bend, Ontario, will play on the same team once again on familiar ice at Budweiser Gardens. The brothers have been an integral part of the London Knights Hockey Club, having won back to back OHL Championships in 2012 & 2013. Toronto’s 2014 first-round draft pick (8th overall) at the NHL Entry Draft, William Nylander, will also be making the trip to London to play in the blue and white for the first time. The Pittsburgh Penguins named 23 players to their roster, including two defensemen who have also dressed for the London Knights: Scott Harrington and Reid McNeill. Former Knights Captain Harrington (Kingston, ON) was a key contributor in leading the Knights to back-to-back Memorial Cup appearances in 2012 & 2013. Teammate McNeill (selected 170th overall in 2010) returns to his hometown London, Ontario for this tournament. Making the trip for the Ottawa Senators is goaltender Andrew Hammond who recorded 25 wins, .910 save percentage in his first season with the AHL Binghamton Senators. Former OHL Rookie of the year, Matt Puempel also joins the lineup for the tournament. Puempel impressed in his first full season in the AHL recording 30 goals, 18 assists, 94 PIMS in 74 games last season with Binghamton. The Chicago Blackhawks roster is highlighted by first-round draft choices Mark McNeill (2011), Phillip Danault (2011), Teuvo Teravainen (2012) and Illinois native Ryan Hartman (2013) and 2010 second-round pick Stephen Johns. Drafted in the 7th round of the 2011 NHL entry draft, London Knights Alumni Alex Broadhurst will return to Budweiser Gardens for the second time as part of the Blackhawks organization. As a Knight, Broadhurst tallied 28 points in the playoffs as a key forward for the 2013 OHL Championship team. London, ON native and veteran Knights forward Brett Welychka recorded 22 goals, 34 assists in 68 games last season earning him a free agent invite with the Blackhawks.
