Sept. 7, 2000/Jan. 31, 2014 Victim: Tatiana “Tanka” Klamo,

33 Defendant (s): Daniel Klamo, 45

Robert Klamo, 16 Length of relationship: married

for 9yrs (prior to 2000 suicide) Location: Highlands Ranch Weapon: firearm Suicide, Murder/suicide Key players:

Daniel Klamo (father/husband) Tatiana Klamo (mother/wife) Julia Klamo (oldest daughter) Michael Klamo (oldest son) Sonia Klamo (youngest daughter) Robert Klamo (youngest son) Lucia (Daniel’s niece)

Summary:

Daniel and Tatiana met in former Czechoslovakia and Daniel invited her to visit him in the US, where he had lived as a refugee since 1982. She was poor and (allegedly) had a promiscuous past, so he wanted to take care of her. She visited him and they were married in 1991. On July 27th, 2000, police responded to a possible 3rd degree assault at their Highlands Ranch home. Tatiana told a neighbor she wanted to leave Daniel and return home. She also stated being jealous of the attention he was giving Lucia, who was staying with them. She suspected there may have been a sexual relationship and they had been arguing about this. Daniel grabbed a handgun and put it in his front pocket. He also hit Tatiana, but no one saw it. No arrest was made, but Tatiana and the kids were taken to Women’s Crisis Center?. Tatiana filed for divorce on 8/4 and a protection order was issued with consideration of parenting time 8/17. Daniel was arrested for violating PO on 8/16 as a result of emails he sent through a 3rd party. On 9/7, Daniel called 991 requesting a coroner and stating he was going to kill himself. A deputy arrived and found him in the backyard with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 20:22. Multiple suicide notes and letters to Gov. Bill Owens were recovered.

On 1/31/14 at 7:55pm, a 911 call from a teenage female (Julia) stated that her brother had a gun and had killed her mother. She had fallen off the roof trying to get away and her brother was still inside. Another daughter, Sonia, was in the house at the time and was trying to escape out the bathroom window when police arrived. When a SWAT team finally entered the home at 11:23pm, they found Robert and Tatiana deceased from gunshot wounds. Interviews with Julia and Sonia discovered that Robert suffered from schizophrenia (as had Daniel) and was bullied at school. He had been arguing with his mother because she refused to take him to Home Depot to get parts for a DIY shotgun. Robert had been court ordered to a mental health screening on 11/1/12 and was hospitalized for 3mos in Children’s MH ward. On 3/15/13, Robert was a person of interest in a threatening not found at his school. He was known to be delusional, paranoid, and infatuated with weapons and prepping for disasters. He had told his mother he would kill anyone who tried to touch him. She believed that LE intervention would put him over the edge.

The two women arrived and engaged in causal conversation with Glen for about an hour. At that point, he brought up property division and the mood tensed. Rebecca was expecting to receive a large settlement around the end of the year, although according to the prosecutor it likely wasn’t nearly as large as she believed. Actual amount is unknown. According to Amanda, Rebecca told Michael on 10/23 that was tired of supporting him, didn't want to be with him anymore, and wasn’t going to give him any money. He then threatened to kill her. Amanda offered to buy him a bus ticket to TN and asked them to stop fighting.
