Mr. Eric Folkestad, President of the AUVSI Cascade ChapterEric Folkestad has been an Unmanned Systems Application Engineer and Export Compliance Officer at Arcturus UAV since 2008. He works on tactical unmanned aircraft systems with advanced ISR capabilities and manages ITAR and AECA export compliance. In 2012, Mr. Folkestad was elected President of the Cascade Chapter AUVSI (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International).

Mr. Young Kim, BOSH Precision AgricultureYoung Kim has over 20 years experience as an entrepreneur and technologist. He is General Manager of BOSH Precision Agriculture (BOSH), where he sets business strategy, initiates key customer developments, establishes strategic relationships and oversees the development of products and services. Mr. Kim is active in the unmanned systems industry and currently heads the newly formed AUVSI Precision Agriculture working group.

Mr. Stewart Moorehead, John Deere Field RoboticsStewart Moorehead is the Manager of Robotics Systems at the John Deere Technology Innovation Center in Champaign, IL. Stewart’s work has focused on obstacle detection and improving the robustness of robotics technology to function in the unforgiving conditions found on farms and construction sites. Stewart has been on the Board of Directors of the AUVSI since 2013 and is a member of the AUVSI Agricultural sub-committee.

Mr. Craig Ganssle, Basecamp NetworksCraig Ganssle was an intelligence and communications operator in the Marines before going to work with Verizon Wireless. In 2007, Mr. Ganssle began Basecamp Networks, a technology firm dedicated to simplifying the implementation of new technology in organizations of any size and industry. Basecamp Networks has monitored, managed, and updates networks for hundreds of organizations around the globe. Mr. Ganssle has been a Google Project Glass Explorer since 2013.

Presenters

Mr. Christophe Millot, Wall-YE FranceChristophe Millot has developed a viticultural robot as well as the pattern recognition and mapping software required for the robot to operate in the field. Prior to that, Mr. Millot created vineyard mapping software for multiple clients, including viticulturists, Association Viticole d’Alsace, Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne, Institut National de l’Origine et de la Qualité, and many others. Mr. Millot’s vineyard-tending robot, Wall-Ye, is making its North American debut at the Precision Farming Expo in McMinnville.

Mr. Thibaud Cau-Cecile, Infaco USA, Inc.Thibaud Cau-Cecile is the Managing Director of Infaco USA Inc., a subsidiary of Infaco SAS France, the world leader in professional battery-operated tools for the viticulture, horticulture and landscaping industries. Mr. Cau-Cecile has been involved with Infaco SAS for over 17 years and contributed to the development of several new markets including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, and North America.

Mr. Mel Torrie, Autonomous Solutions Inc.Mel Torrie is a founder and CEO of Autonomous Solutions Inc. in Logan Utah. Prior to founding ASI, Mr. Torrie worked at Utah State University where he managed robotics development programs for John Deere, US Department of Energy, and the US Department of Defense. He also worked on and managed portions of two NASA Space Shuttle Payloads. ASI develops and sells driverless equipment in Mining, Military, Agriculture, Material Handling, Automotive Proving Grounds and Industrial Cleaning with partners such as Ford, Chrysler, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, Dematic, and many government institutions.

Presenters

Mr. Steve Markofski, Yamaha Motor Corp. USASteve Markofski is New Business Planner for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., with headquarters located in Cypress, California. His responsibilities are focused on searching for new business opportunities as well as those in areas related to Yamaha’s current businesses. A certified RMAX pilot, Mr. Markofski is a member of the RMAX remotely piloted helicopter team, whose focus is the introduction and use of precision agriculture in the United States market. The Yamaha team hasbeen working with U.C. Davis on ongoing research to evaluate use of the remote controlled RMAX helicopter for agricultural use.

Mr. Bruce Rasa, TekwearBruce Rasa is CEO and Founder of TekWear, an AgTech startup focused on wearable technology solutions for global agriculture in Buford, Georgia. He has 17 years of experience in high tech marketing, product management and sales at IBM, NCR and the AGCO Corporation. In the spring of 2013, Mr. Rasa was selected as one of 8,000 Google Glass Explorers with his unique proposal to test the innovative new device on potential applications supporting global agriculture.

Mr. Russ Linhart, TrimbleRuss Linhart grew up on a Central Montana family farming/ranching operation. While working at John Deere, first in sales and then as a General Manager, Mr. Linhart became interested in precision agriculture, finding that it coincided with his fascination and passion for agronomy and soil science. In 2007, he worked with market development and customer training for a new product called GreenSeeker and for the past 7 years has been developing new uses and applications for the technology. He is currently focused on applying sensor technologies to viticulture and permanent crop markets.

Dr. Qin Zhang, Washington State UniversityQin Zhang is the Director of the Center for Precision and Automated Agricultural Systems, Washington State University, as well as a Professor of Agricultural Automation in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering. Dr. Zhang’s research interests are in the areas of agricultural automation, intelligent off-road equipment, and precision agriculture. He has authored numerous technical and academic publications, has been awarded nine U.S. patents, and has served as a chair or co-chair for four international conferences or symposiums in the area of agricultural automation.

Mr. Tim Lachenmeier, Near Space CorporationTim Lachenmeier, founder and President of Near Space Corporation (NSC), is an instrument-rated pilot with 800 hours of flight experience. He has designed and flown manned and unmanned systems including sUAS, airships and gliders for 35 years and holds patents for tactical balloon launch and payload return system. Mr. Lachenmeier began sUAS operations in 1996 and has managed 90 flights to date. NSC designs, builds and conducts flight operations and Test Range management services for government, civil and defense contractors, universities and commercial entities.

Dr. Lav Khot, Washington State UniversityLav Khot is an agriculture engineer at Washington State University with research interest in applied sensor technologies for precision farming, UAS based crop sensing, spray technology, sensors for food quality and safety. He is an active member of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) since 2005 and was named ‘Outstanding Reviewer’ for his 2010 peer-review efforts for ASABE journals. Dr. Khot is also an affiliate faculty member of the Center for Precision and Automated Agricultural Systems (CPAAS)-WSU.

Mr. Eric Wavra, Sitech OregonEric Wavra has been in the precision agriculture industry for nearly 20 years, working with all major brands, technologies and precision concepts starting in Agronomy. Mr. Wavra has been instrumental in developing new concepts and technologies with a wide variety of farming practices and crops. At Sitech-Oregon, Mr. Wavra and his team provide the highest standards and quality for precision agricultural needs.

Mr. Tom Wells, Papé OregonAlthough Tom Wells was a city kid, he loved anything to do with Agriculture and started his career early, moving irrigation pipe at the age of eight. At 16, he began fulltime work on a cattle ranch and was involved in many facets of cattle production until his early twenties. Over time, Mr. Wells transitioned into the tire business and began working with ag and forestry tires. Eventually he developed and marketed a line of custom-built, radial flotation tires for the specialized applicators used in the grass seed industry. Mr. Wells now works as an Account Manager at Pape’ Machinery in Tangent and serves as the Integrated Solutions Consultant for the Southern Oregon Region of Pape’ Machinery Ag and Turf.

Mr. John Hubbard, MeasureTekJohn Hubbard is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has been involved in a broad range of technologies for 30 years. Mr. Hubbard has been with MeasureTek for a year and a half, where he works with growers to learn and educate the growing community as to what field technologies are most useful and economical to the farming community.

Mr. Ryan Jenson, HoneyComb Corp.Ryan Jenson is CEO and Co-founder of HoneyComb, which specializes in the development and application of drones and data processing for precision agriculture. Over the past decade, he has been involved in research and development with a wide range of institutions including NASA, Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, British Royal Navy, Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and fast-paced startups. Mr. Jenson has authored and/or contributed to over 30 publications and presentations, and routinely advises on business strategy, entrepreneurship, and disruptive technologies.

Mr. Stephen Burtt, Aerial Technology InternationalStephen Burtt has worked in the Unmanned Aerial Systems industry for the past 7 years. Stephen has served as the founder and lead videographer for Northwest Aero Pix since 2007. In 2012, he formed Aerial Technology International out of a desire to create a company that could support the needs of UAS operators in the rapidly expanding industry. Mr. Burtt now serves as CEO of ATI, a company that provides turn-key unmanned aerial systems along with the training, support, maintenance and repairs needed by end users.

Mr. Bret Chilcott, AgEagle Inc.Bret Chilcott grew up on a small farm in south central Kansas, spending every penny he earned on model airplanes or flying lessons. After working in various sales and marketing positions for companies such as Snap On Tools, Cessna Aircraft and Cobalt Boats, he began an advanced composite manufacture and worked with Kansas State University to develop airframes for their agricultural UAV program. Bret later pivoted his composite manufacture into AgEagle, now the largest manufacturer of aerial precision robotic aircraft in the world. AgEagle manufactures complete aerial imaging systems for use in agriculture.

Mr. Mitch Sweker, Oregon Department of AviationMitch Swecker is the Director for the Oregon Department of Aviation. Prior to that, he was the Oregon State Airports Manager, responsible for overseeing the state’s 28 airports and 300 leases and agreements. He is on the board of the Oregon Airport Management Association as General Aviation Director, serves on the CONNECTOREGON Oversight Committee, and is a member of the Oregon Freight Advisory Committee.

Mr. Rob Trester, Yamaha Motor Corp. USARob Trester is Division Manager of Corporate Planning for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. with headquarters located in Cypress, California. His responsibilities include business strategy and planning for Yamaha within North America and managing new business planning opportunities. He is a member of the RMAX remotely-piloted helicopter team focused on its introduction into the United States market. He is working with the team to research and investigate business opportunities for the RMAX in precision agriculture and related fields.

Ms. Wendie Kellington, Law Offices of Wendie L. Kellington, PCWendie Kellington is a Martindale Hubble AV rated attorney, practicing law since 1983. She is known in Oregon and nationally for her expertise in administrative law, on topics ranging from land use to the emerging law of unmanned vehicles. She is a member of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems Inc. (AUVSI), its newly formed Export Controls Committee, and the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA). Ms. Kellington serves on the RTCA SC 228, developing Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for UAS airspace integration to recommend to the FAA. She presented on UAS integration and the law of navigable airspace to the American Law Institute’s “Land Use Institute” in August 2013 (San Francisco) and is scheduled to present on UAS airspace integration in Seattle in March 2014 and Washington DC in July, 2014.

Mr. Jonathan Evans, Rising Tide InnovationsJonathan Evans is a dual-rated professional pilot and nine-year Army veteran. He’s a co-founder and the CEO of Portland-based tech startup Rising Tide Innovations that is building software for commercial UAS operators and their clients. He also sits on the board of the Cascade chapter of AUVSI, and is the contest director for “Drone Prize 2014″; a national contest connecting drone enthusiasts with the public good.

Mr. Matt Parker, Precision Integrated ProgramsA former US Marine Scout, Matt Parker currently directs Precision’s operations of multiple UAV systems and personnel worldwide. His team of operators has intimate familiarity with the operational capabilities and limitations of nearly every UAS system in use by the US government.He is a frequent speaker on the subject of the global-commercial development of Unmanned Aeiral Systems.

Mr. Jeff Lorton, Ms. Val Anctil, The Duke Joseph AgencyJeff Lorton’s past ambitions were full of color and risk – a pizzeria on Easter Island, a whale-watching company in Sooke, British Columbia, a wine packaging business in the great Northwest. He also worked as a marine naturalist in Antarctica, led archeological tours in the South Pacific, and freelanced as a photographer and graphic designer.

Val Anctil’s earlier endeavors were equally chromatic – apparel designer for Columbia Sportswear, wedding gown designer, ESL teacher in Europe and Asia, pastry chef in Vegas, glass artist, and “blue collar marketeer”.
