In 1984 Kawasaki blew the motorcycle industry doors wide open with the introduction of the 900cc Ninja®. Equipped with a liquid-cooled, 16-valve engine, lightweight chassis, and racy full-coverage fairing, there was not another bike like it on showroom floors. It backed the looks up with record setting ¼-mile times and top speeds that had motorcycle magazines naming it the “Bike of the Year.” No sooner had the calendar flipped to 1985 than the industry was again rocked, this time by the bike that created the 600cc supersport class, the Ninja 600R. Groundbreaking, the 600R had a perimeter frame and performance to rival larger displacement bikes. The Ninja brand was so popular by that time that Tom Cruise rode a Ninja in Top Gun, as the bike represented the performance—and styling—of a Navy jet.

Industry dominance continued in 1988 when the Ninja ZX™-10 was introduced featuring an aluminum frame, 495 pound weight and 1000cc of Ninja performance. But the big deal came in 1989 when Kawasaki stepped into the superbike wars with the all-new Ninja ZX-7, a 750cc supersport bike based directly on Kawasaki works racers. In 1990 and again in 1993, the Ninja ZX-11 locked Kawasaki’s reputation as the “King of Speed” in the public’s mind with record setting performance, the introduction of Ram Air and Dual Ram Air, and a speedometer that read to 200mph.

1994 and the 900cc class is revitalized with the introduction of the Ninja ZX-9R. Based heavily on the ZX-7 engine, the 9R had Twin Ram Air, an aluminum frame and a great balance of power, size and handling. To up the ante in the superbike wars, 1996 saw the release of the Ninja ZX-7RR.Aluminum frame, variable rake, adjustable swingarm pivot—a works bike for the privateer!

30 YEARS OF DOMINANCEThe new millennium brought the 2000 Ninja ZX-12R,Kawasaki’s new open-class contender and the firstmass-produced model to feature an aluminum monocoque frame. Kawasaki stepped into 2003 with the Ninja ZX-6R—a 636cc powerhouse that set records, competed with significantly bigger bikes and made sure the world knew Kawasaki understood supersport racing.

Twenty years of Ninja had to be a big deal, so the 2004 Ninja ZX-10R was created. At 375 pounds and packing horsepower others could only dream of, the mark was made—until 2011 when the ZX-10R got even better with an incredibly powerful new engine, new cast aluminum twin spar frame, Big Piston Fork, Horizontal Back-link rear suspension, and advanced technology that included S-KTRC, KIBS, and selectable power modes.

In 2012 Kawasaki released the 1441cc Ninja ZX-14R—the quickest accelerating motorcycle in the world—a bike multiple magazines across the globe rode to sub-10 second ¼ miles in stock trim.

And now, in 2014 you can choose from the award-winning Ninja 300, the Ninja 650, a proven racer and commuter, the all-new Ninja 1000 sport/sport touring machine, the 636cc Ninja ZX-6R, the class-leading Ninja ZX-10R or the Ninja ZX-14R, still the world’s quickest accelerating motorcycle. 2014 is a pretty good year for a 30th anniversary.

The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-14R is so much more than the King of the drag strip. Yes, it is the quickest accelerating motorcycle in production, but it is a sport bike at heart. With incredibly compliant suspension, amazing brakes, a chassis that has the strength to handle the power the engine delivers and a riding position that encourages cornering, the ZX-14R has everything a sport bike needs, but with the most power in its class. Rickey Gadson has won 10 drag racing titles. If anyone knows how good the ZX-14R is, it is Rickey. We asked him for his opinion of the14R and he simply said:

"Kawasaki has produced the perfect platform to win a championship. I can't believe how much confidence Kawasaki’s new traction control inspires—and how it knows whether you’re on wet ground or not without first spinning the tire!"

POWERThe 2014 Ninja® ZX™-14R sets the performance standard in the motorcycle industry. It features an in-line four-cylinder engine displacing 1441cc from Bore and Stroke measurements of 84mm x 65mm. Significant engineering on cam profiles, intake and exhaust ports, and forged pistons, and bypass holes between cylinders 1-2 and 3-4 to minimize pumping power loss, all lead up to plenty of torque from as early as 2000rpm, and record setting ¼-mile times on the track.

SUSPENSION/CHASSISIn order to control our most powerful production engine to date, Kawasaki engineers spent plenty of time developing a frame and suspension that are up to the task. Its aluminum monocoque frame has a rigid steering head and uses the engine as a stressed member to enhance the strength of the chassis without adding extra weight. 43 mm inverted fork with rubber dampers and spring rates that match the chassis characteristics helps deliver sporty handling and ensures rock-solid high-speed stability, while a Uni-Trak® rear suspension controls the gusseted swingarm.

BRAKESStopping the world’s quickest accelerating motorcycle is a serious responsibility. Kawasaki engineers decided that dual 310mm petal discs on aluminum inner rotors squeezed by radial-mount 4-piston calipers up front and a 250mm rear rotor with a twin-piston caliper provide equally impressive stopping power. An available lightweight ABS system adds a level of rider confidence.

POWER MODE SELECTIONWith two power modes, tuning power delivery to the rear wheel is just a thumb switch away. Use Low Power to limit power output to about 75% and deliver milder throttle response. Full power is the reason you bought a Ninja® ZX™-14R, but this mode can be enhanced with KTRC fora well-rounded riding experience.

TRACTION CONTROLEven the most experienced rider can use some help when road conditions are less than favorable. Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC) has three modes that you can engage from a switch on the left handlebar. Modes 1 and 2 allow a degree of wheel slip in order to maximize acceleration by monitoring its data every 5 milliseconds and adjusting ignition timing accordingly. Mode 3 lets you ride across stretches of bad roads, wet surfaces and other road irregularities with minimal wheel slip.

ENGINEThere is no shortage of race-bred technology that has been engineered into the 2014 Ninja® ZX™-10R. The 998cc in-line four features linear power delivery leading up to its heady peak performance. With focus on engine manageability, racers will find that peak torque has been moved higher in the power band, which makes it easier to get on the gas earlier coming out of a corner. Helping create the refined power delivery are 47mm main- and oval sub-throttle valves fed by Ram Air intake and dual injectors. The main injectors supply low and mid range power while the secondary injectors supplement high rpm operation.

S-KTRCThe highly sophisticated Sport-Kawasaki TRaction Control system is based directly on technology Kawasaki developed racing in MotoGP. Designed to maximize acceleration, the system looks at throttle position, engine rpm, wheel speed and slippage, and acceleration from data gathered from both wheels to predict when traction will start to be lost and modulate power to the rear wheel to maintain maximum acceleration. With three levels of traction control, finding a mode that suits your riding style and the conditions of your ride is just a thumb switch movement away.

SUSPENSIONThe ZX-10R uses a 43mm inverted Big Piston Fork (BPF) and Horizontal Back-link suspension with a gas-charged shock to smooth out any road or racetrack imperfections you might encounter. The BPF reduces weight and its unique damping pressure design allows initial action to be smooth, which enhances control under braking. In the rear the Horizontal Back-link suspension provides predictable action throughout the entire shock travel range—and adds to mass centralization of the chassis.

KIBSThe brakes on the 2014 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-10R offer some serious bragging rights: dual 310mm petal-style semi-floating rotors gripped by Tokiko radial mount calipers up front and a 220mm petal-type rear rotor and a single piston caliper. On ABS models, add in the performance enhancing capabilities of the Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Braking System (KIBS), which analyzes front and rear wheel speed, gear selection, clutch actuation, engine rpm, throttle position and caliper pressure to prevent wheel lock and suppress rear wheel lift, and you have a brake system ideally suited to supersport riding.

ÖHLINS ELECTRONIC STEERING DAMPERDesigned with Öhlins specifically for the ZX-10R, an electronically controlled steering damper provides the exact amount of input your rideneeds speeding up or slowing—goingfast or slow.

NINJA® ZX™-6R

In 2013 the Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-6R was released with a new 636cc engine. It immediately won shoot-outs and positioned itself as the class leader in the middleweight sportbike category. For 2014, the ZX-6R comes back to help make your sportbike fantasies a reality.

Technology, power, comfortable ergonomics and unmistakable Ninja styling are powerful arguments for putting this machine in your garage. Life with the ZX-6R will make you wonder why anyone ridesanything else. Monobloc calipers, assist and slipper clutch, Separate Function Fork - Big Piston(SFF-BP), race-bred electronics and a very cool analog tachometer that lets you know just how much of the 15,000rpm engine you are using at any given time. This formidable package makes a day at the track, commuting to the office or a weekend in the twisties a sure reason why this is your favorite purchase ever.

SUSPENSIONThe 2014 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-6R takes suspension sophistication to the next level in the middleweight class. Up front a Showa Separate Function/ Big Piston Fork puts the preload function in the left tube and the damping functions in the right tube. This design lets you do all fork adjustment from the top and you only need to make one adjustment per function—much simpler than traditional forks that require adjustments on both sides. With the Big Piston internals, initial suspension reaction is smoother, allowing the fork to maintain its composure during braking.

In the rear, a fully adjustable Uni-Trak® gas-charged shock lets you dial in preload, compression and rebound to suit your riding style perfectly.

HANDLINGTo hear a bike being described as both stable and nimble almost seems contradictory. But Kawasaki engineers spent vast amounts of time perfecting the pressed aluminum frame to work with the suspension components and bike ergonomics to do just that. The ZX-6R flicks into corners quickly, but offers tremendous mid-corner stability, the ability to change lines at will, and excellent chassis feedback—just what you want on the street or on the track.

ENGINEThe long-stroke design of the 636cc engine in the 2014 Ninja®

ZX™-6R was developed to provide class-leading low- and mid-range power, along with peak power that surprises much larger bikes. Most of an average rider’s time is spent in the low- and mid-range, so extra emphasis on usable power in these areas was the focus. 38mm throttle bodies, a large air box, high-lift intake and exhaust cam profiles, and joint pipes that connect all four of the exhaust headers combine to create the most user-friendly powerband in the middleweight superbike category.

TECHNOLOGYRider control is enhanced on the ZX-6R with the inclusion of some of Kawasaki’s best technology. Three-mode Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC) allows riders to select how much—or none at all—traction control they want or need for the situation they are riding in. Combined with two selectable Power Modes (Full and Low, which limits power to 80%) riders have eight combinations to choose from.

And finally, ABS models feature Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Braking System (KIBS), an advanced system developed for supersport models. KIBS takes full advantage of the Nissin monobloc front calipers, 310mm petal-style front rotors and 220mm petal-style rear rotor with single piston caliper to provide precision brake control on the street or during serious sport riding.

ENGINEEven a beginner likes knowing a twist of the throttle is going tobring a big smile to your face. The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 putsa 296cc, liquid-cooled DOHC, 8-valve parallel twin in the role of grin inducer. It was designed to outperform the competition for performance, while still offering characteristics that make an engine feel safe and friendly to a beginner. Things like a crankshaft balancer and partial rubber engine mounting to reduce vibration, along with a head design that takes full advantage of the main- and sub-throttle valves to deliver plenty of low- and mid-range power, provide a confident start to any ride.

WHEELS AND TIRESA quick glance at the wheels on the Ninja® 300 and they will seem familiar—they are. Styled to be similar to the 10-spoke design found on the world’s quickest accelerating motorcycle, the Ninja ZX™-14R, the wheels look great—and the rear is wide enough to accommodate a 140mm tire.

BIG BIKE FEATURESAll too often a new rider buys a bike bigger than what they should start on because the “entry level” bike they were looking at looked like an “entry level” bike. The 2014 Ninja 300 remedies that situation with looks that mirror the larger Ninja bikes. Dual headlamps, a stylish seat cowl, sleek, aerodynamic body panels, powerful looking muffler and a wide rear tire all come together to make you embrace the Ninja 300 as much more than an “entry level” bike.

Additionally, an assist and slipper clutch found on the Ninja ZX™-6R provides extremely light clutch lever feel and reduces back-torque when a downshift takes place too quickly.

One of the most exciting bikes to roll off the Kawasaki assembly line this year is the new Ninja® 1000. With a perfect blend of sport and function, the Ninja 1000 satisfies your supersport seduction desires and blends them with everyday versatility. Aggressive full fairing looks are combined with ergonomics that make being in the saddle all day a pleasure. From its distinctive growl to its three-position adjustable windshield, the Ninja 1000 is versatile enough to get you to the office all week, take on your weekend canyon rides—and have you smiling the whole way.

New for 2014, the Ninja 1000 features significant technology updates including Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC) and Power Mode selection—effectively allowing you to dial in the amount of power and the amount of traction control required for dry, wet, rough or any other type of road, with the push of a few buttons.

An exciting option for 2014 is the availability of fully integrated saddlebags that use a one-key, quick mount/release system similar to that found on the Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS—which means no visible brackets when the bags are removed. These optional bags transform your Ninja 1000 into the sportiest sport-touring bike around.

INTEGRATED SADDLEBAGSThe Kawasaki Quick Release (KQR™) 28-liter Hard Saddlebag Kit is a dealer-installed accessory that transforms your 2014 Ninja® 1000 into a versatile sport-touring bike. Tucked tightly to the sides of the bike, they have a total width of just 36-inches yet can each hold a full-face helmet. A great feature of these optional bags is the one-key operation that allows you to use your ignition key to unlock and then mount or remove the bags in about three seconds each. The bags clip into the new passenger handrails that come in the saddlebag kit, so when the bags are off you really can’t tell they were ever on—a nice plus on those sporty weekend rides.

ENGINERider sensations are important when it comes to twisting the throttle. The Ninja 1000 embodies the concept of rider sensation with a 1,043cc liquid-cooled in-line four that provides silky-smooth linear power but can howl when you want it to. New for 2014, selectable Power Modes allow you to dial back the power (to about 70%, with a milder response) to suit your riding situation.

SUSPENSIONSmoothing out the freeway bumps and carving canyons place very different demands on suspension, yet the Ninja 1000 provides a supportive ride in both situations. A fully-adjustable 41mm inverted fork has stepless compression and rebound damping to keep the front wheel planted in turns and over bumps. In the rear, Horizontal Back-link rear suspension features a remote preload adjuster to facilitate quick changes for when you add a passengeror luggage to your ride.

*Model color shown: Candy Cascade Blue

BRAKINGThe Ninja® 1000 uses a small, lightweight ABS unit to complement a braking system featuring radial-mount monobloc calipers that squeeze petal-style 300mm rotors up front and a 250mm petal-type rotor with a single piston caliper in the rear. The stopping power and control are tremendous, and allow you to carve canyons with a passenger, full saddlebags and still have strong, fade-free braking.

Since our first motorcycle engine in 1953, we’ve never stopped pushing technology to arm riders with what they need to dominate the streets. Advanced engineering, exhaustive testing, and tireless passion go into every motorcycle every time rubber hits the road. From industry-first features to the features that have evolved over our long history, our innovations will never stop feeding the insatiable appetites of riders around the world.

You already know Kawasaki builds machines that move people. But, did you know Kawasaki also builds machines that move thousands of people—all at once? We’re talking trains here. From New York City subway cars to Japan’s hyper-speed bullet trains, Kawasaki has been in the business since 1906. Whether a 186-mph bullet train or a 1,441cc Ninja® ZX™-14R motorcycle, we like to believe that the technology that goes into moving thousands of people has a positive effect on how we go about moving just one.

If robots are the future, then Kawasaki has been shaping it since 1969 when Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd (KHI) built their first industrial robot. Kawasaki continues to be a leader in the development of robots for a diverse number of processes including: assembly, handling, welding, painting and sealing. Kawasaki robot technology is being used everyday to manufacture our motorcycles and other products.
