District results District results from 48 of the 150 districts are in the attached pdf. Xai-Xai has been corrected.

Problems continue with counts and posting of results In Ile district, Zambézia, a STAE official was caught inputting incorrect data. The count was stopped and restarted from the beginning on Sunday. In Caia, Sofala, the district count finished on schedule Saturday but as of this morning (Monday) the results had not been announced or posted. Local officials said the provincial director of STAE (Secretariado Tecnico de Administracao Eleitoral, Technical Election Secretariat) had ordered the District Elections Commission (CDE) not to announced or post the results. But at the end of the count, copies of the results sheets had been given to the parties as required by law, so we obtained the results from Renamo In Mopeia, Zambezia, the district count finished on schedule Saturday and the results were announced at a public ceremony, but they had not been posted or distributed to the parties and media by this morning (Monday). CDE President Miguel Sandromo said that even though required by law, he could not do this without permission from a higher level. In Buzi, Sofala, the count finished Friday but results had still not been posted this morning. It required extensive discussion with election officials before they were willing to tell the results to our correspondent Interestingly, Renamo won in Buzi, Mopeia and Caia.. In Goronogsa, Sofala, the count finished Friday but remained secret. Our local correspondent finally reached CDE president Zambo Alficha and reminded him of the law, and results were released this morning.


Parallel count confirms Nyusi win The latest version of the electoral observatory statistically accurate sample count (PVT, parallel vote tabulation) predicts the following results: Turnout: 51% President Nyusi 58% Dhlakama 35% Simango 8% Parliament (Assembleia da República) Frelimo 57% Renamo 32% MDM 10% Others 2% Parliament seats Taking into account that none of the small parties will win seats and that Frelimo is likely to win the two seats abroad, this leads to the following estimate of seats: Frelimo 143 Renamo 82 MDM 25 These projections are based on 84% of the PVT sample polling stations, which is enough to give a relatively accurate projection. None of these percentages should change by more than 2%.

Dhlakama personal success The presidential candidates for the two main parties both did better than their party in the parliamentary race, and Daviz Simango did worse than the MDM. The Renamo vote was down 3% and the Frelimo vote down 1%, and those votes were split between MDM and other parties. This pattern is largely reflected in individual provinces, with two exceptions. Sofala is the only province where Dhlakama won a majority, but one-seventh of those who voted for Dhlakama appear to have then voted for MDM for parliament. In Maputo city, one-seventh of those who voted for Nyusi shifted their votes to Renamo or MDM for parliament. The projection is that Dhlakama won between 40% and 50% in five provinces - in Nampula and Zambézia where he came first, in Mancia and Tete where he came second to Nyusi, and in Niassa where the difference between Dhlakama and Nyusi will be very small. ___________________________________________________________________________________ A detailed report on the 2009 elections is available, in two parts, on http://bit.ly/MozElec2009-1a and http://bit.ly/MozElec2009-2
