[ 10th Angkor photo workshops ]
Our annual tuition-free professional workshops remain at the heart and soul of what we do. Aimed at boosting the skills and craft of Asia’s emerging photographic talent, our workshops have helped create a close-knit community of photographers in Asia.
For our 10th Edition, 29 participants from 13 Asian countries joined us in Siem Reap, where, under the tutelage of international professionals who volunteer their time and expertise, they each completed a photo project which was shown as part of the festival’s Closing Night programme on December 6.
We are proud to welcome all 29 photographers into our ever-expanding network of photographers, as well as into our community of workshop alumni!

I have gained more than what I could have possibly imagined. Not only did I get to know
more about myself, but I am experiencing the passion again that
pushed me to photograph in the first place.

“To be able to have actual discussions with so many of
the photographers I admire was priceless... Also, to be able to
interact with so many different cultures from all over the world was pretty amazing. You realize
how small your life back home is.”

Un Déclic Contre Une Claque
Mansi’s project will bring her back to Cambodia, as she embarks on the next
phase of exploring the struggles between one’s
sense of self and the body.
Senthil will continue his on-going documentation
of the conflict between humans and tigers living in
India’s tiger reserves.

From indoor galleries to installations in public spaces, our 10th Edition’s exhibition programme featured 14 print exhibitions all across Siem Reap, showcasing work by photographers from all over the world.
Thanks to the support of the Siem Reap Government, the riverside area of Siem Reap became one of our main venues for public exhibitions. This greatly increased the exposure of the photographer’s works, and also helped us reach out to even more of the local community and visitors from around the world.

[ greenlight exhibition series ]
A component of the exhibition programme, our inaugural GreenLight Exhibition Series was a huge success! An initiative aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues amongst the local community and visitors, the series’ first instalment in 2014 featured five outdoor exhibitions on the theme of ‘Water’.
The GreenLight Series is proudly supported by the A.I.M.F. (L’Association Internationale des Mairies Francophones), Ville de Genève, and the Siem Reap Government.

Our events would not have been possible without the generosity and support of our Wine Partner Celliers d’Asie, and our Beer Partner Cambodia Beer.
This was also the first year we introduced ‘Wine for a Cause’, a fundraising initiative by Celliers d’Asie which helped raise money for NGO Anjali House through the sale of wine at selected events.
W I N E F O R A C A U S E !Thanks to our Official Wine Partner Celliers d’Asie, all profits from the sale of wine at this event will go directly to supporting Anjali House.
So enjoy the great wines they have picked out for you, and do your bit to support a wonderful NGO here in Siem Reap.

[ AnjAli photo workshops ]
Over 50 children and youths of the NGO Anjali House participated in the 10th Anjali Photo Workshops, an outreach initiative aimed at encouraging the children’s innate creativity - an important part of education and a key tool in fostering scholastic development and self-confidence.
Guided by volunteer photographers, the children are brought on special excursions to different places, and the older participants also get to bring their cameras home to photograph their lives, friends and families.
A big thank you to A.I.M.F. (L’Association Internationale des Mairies Francophones), Ville de Genève and the Siem Reap Government for their support, and to our long-time partners i-Qlick Canon for the loan of Canon Powershot A2500 and Canon EOS1100D cameras for the kids!

[children’s dAy! ]
Held on December 3, the ever-popular event brought together the children of Anjali House with festival visitors.
Hosted once again by Shinta Mani Club & Resort, the day began with amazing performances from Phare, the Cambodian Circus, and a special ‘youth-oriented’ evening projection programme curated by Françoise Callier. The highlight of the day was no doubt the smiles on the children’s faces when we shared a specially-curated slideshow of their photographs from the Anjali Photo Workshops.

angkor Photo FeStival lookS Set to be bigger and better than ever beFore aS it markS itS 10th year. Marissa Carruthers takeS a Sneak Peek at what’S in Store.
Every year, eyes are averted from the temples of Siem Reap and instead focus on the hundreds of powerful images that transform the city into an artistic hub.
Now in its 10th year, Angkor Photo Festival and Workshops has evolved in leaps and bounds since its humble begin-nings in 2005. As the brainchild of founding photographers, Jean-Yves Navel, Roland Eng and Gary Knight, the aim was to provide a series of work-shops and exhibitions to give back to the community. What began as a small round of photos showcased in small pockets of the city, coupled with a few workshops, has snowballed into one of South-east Asia’s biggest photographic festivals. And today, it attracts photographers from across the globe as well as providing a platform for home-grown talent to exhibit their work.
Festival organiser Jessica Lim says, “As the longest-running international photo event in Southeast Asia, Siem Reap transforms into the photogra-phy hub of Asia every No-vember. We’re glad that the thousands of visitors who come to the city to visit the magnifi-cent temples of Angkor are also able to join in our events, as everything is free and open to the public.” As well as attracting artists from the global stage, some of Cambodia’s most talented photographers are set to show the world their talents, including Kim Hak, who is exhibiting his thought-provoking work this year. Sophal Neak and Meng Kimlong’s work will also be projected during the eight-day festival.
Lim adds, “As an internation-al festival, this is a great place for Cambodian photographers to come meet their peers from the rest of the world, to interact and discuss and to expose themselves to a professional level of photography.” Angkor Photo Festival runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 6. As a non-profit cultural association, our events and activities would not be possible without the kind and generous support of our local and international partners and sponsors.
To each and every organisation that joined us in support of our activities, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation.
