A New Family Is On the Way...Can You Help?Do you like learning about different cultures, even different religions? If so, please help us welcome a new refuge family arriving this spring! The mission committee needs a few dedicated folks who can participate in SHPC’s sponsorship of a newly arriving refugee family. Initially, we will help set up their apartment, collect furniture, buy groceries (you may be given an exotic grocery list of things you have never heard of!), meet them at the airport and basically be their new friends. Our commitment to the family is for six months but you may volunteer for any amount of time. Gently used furniture such as a couch, dining room table and chairs, dressers, end tables, and lamps are needed. Clothing and age-appropriate toys will be appreciated once we learn more about the family. contact Cathy Beard. Thank you! 512-589-5634, [email protected].

The annual Holy Smokes BBQ will be our first celebration at The Deck at SHPC Brodie Campus! Mark your calendars for June 1st after the 11:00 service!

Don’t miss Soup To Nuts in May!Our speaker will be Bob Paynes, and he will give an entertaining talk on Amelia Earhart. As always, we will have a wonderful lunch planned and great fellowship.Contact Mary Helen McAllister to RSVP. ([email protected])

Drivers Needed!!The Bread Project needs drivers to help pick up day-old bread and pastries from local stores then deliver to food pantries. If you can help, please contact Cathy Beard at [email protected].

SPARC! Single AdultsSPARC! is meeting at Red’s Porch for dinner at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16th, then heading to the Broken Spoke for dancing. SPARC! Because of the generosity of the congregation, our Caring Forever Endowment Fund is able to grant an award of $1500 this year to an organization or individual who is working to share the Love of Christ through caring for others. Past awards have been made for work with the homeless, mission work in Cuba, disaster relief work, education and Campus Ministry work. Each of these have been suggested by the congregation through a nomination form like the one below and selected by the Caring Forever Endowment Fund committee. This is where you come in. You can nominate a worthy work by filling in this nomination form and placing it in the Caring Forever Box in the Narthex, or by returning it to the church office. Be sure to get your nomination in by May 25, 2014.Just like every year, the award is coming only from the earnings of the Endowment Fund. After all, that’s the way it works. The principal of the Fund–your contributions–are never spent. They stay in the Fund to keep it serving great works year after year.Have questions? Just ask Endowment Committee chair Dan Brinks. Helpcontinue to perpetuate the legacy God has given us through his Son, Jesus Christ! All nominations will be reviewed by the taskforce and the Caring Forever 2014 Award will be presented in church on Father’s Day June 15.
