This isn’t a contest! This is for Fun! Keep in mind that a gas station could be really old, out in the middle of almost no where. A person wearing a hat could be a top hat, a witches hat. You’ve got the idea. A group of three people could be at a park or in costume at a convention. And this is just a jumping off point. No worries if your subject isn’t on the list.

I was conceived in rout to the colony eight years ago. I’m told that a high burst of radiation affected my mother and, in turn, affected me. I’ve not told anyone in our colony about my, condition. They treat me like any ordinary eight year old. After my second birthday I realized that I’m not ordinary at all. I’ve been able to read the other colonists minds, and at first thought this was normal, only to realize that the radiation must have been the cause of my abilities. Yes, abilities. Not only can I read the thoughts of others, but now, at the age of eight, I’ve completed 15 years of education. Of course, that’s an ability that all the colonists know. There are a few other talents that I dare not tell, not to my parents, not to anyone. I know what they would do with me.

When the Federation ship arrived to aid our colony with the plague, I realized that this was my opportunity to leave the planet. I’m stifled here and not safe. My name is Katrina.

Beckstrom, raised his fist to indicate the away team to stop. A young girl was skipping into the clearing, totally unafraid of the Romulan presence.

“We got the intestines, we got the intestines!” Katrina was smiling, shouting, and waving a small bouquet of flowers in her right hand.

“Hello! I’ve come to give thanks at the altar. We got the intestines! Do you know what that means?”

The Romulan commander and his soldiers were staring at the young girl, but gave no indication

that they would harm her, so Beckstrom and his team stayed put.

“That means,” Katrina continued, “that we can make sausages!” By now she was standing at the

DHD and within arms length from the Romulan commander.

“Today the butchering took place, and we received our box from the elders. The main cuts of

meats go to the President and the council. They need the choice meats because they need to think

and plan and take care of us. We don’t need to worry about that sort of thing so we don’t need the

choice cuts. Choice cuts are what my parents call what the President gets. But I love sausage! I’m

so happy I had to come and give thanks at the alter.” Katrina had a smile from ear to ear.

“Child,” one soldier stepped forward and spoke sternly, “you must leave this area!”

Ian Ral was contacted by the mind of Katrina. She was telling him that she would be the

distraction and they could jump the Romulans with less danger.

What a brave little girl. Ian thought. And with that he signaled Beckstrom that they should move.

Beckstrom agreed and signaled they change settings to stun, then gave the go ahead. No one

wanted to take a chance on hurting the little girl. The away team rushed the Romulans.

In the next few seconds the team of Beckstrom, Ral, Quentin, Gnorts, Vashi, and Tanaka took

down the Romulans and secured the DHD. Beckstrom realized he was one man short.

Katrina was kneeling beside PO 1 Takashi Tanaka, the one man that had taken a hit from a

Romulan weapon. She laid her flowers on his chest as a tear ran down her cheek.

“That was very brave of you.” Ral knelt down beside Katrina. “Why did you do this for us?”

Beckstrom was in communication with the T’Peira giving his brief report of what transpired.

“Please take me with you.” Katrina asked Ral.

“That,” Ral stated, “is not up to me or you. Where are your parents?”

Katrina looked at the team, the DHD, the bodies of the stunned Romulans on the ground, and

then the body of Tanaka.

“No one here knows what I am, and I don’t want them to.” Katrina stood up to her entire 4’ 6”

height. “I want to go with you on your ship. I have the equivalent to a PhD and I could be of use.”

Katrina looked at the away team and announced very seriously, “I know what the DHD is.”

That comment made Beckstrom stop mid sentence in his report to T’Peira.

“I’ll be right back.” Beckstrom closed his communicator.

“Did Jeffery just close communication with me?” T’Peira looked at her communications officer, who just nodded.

Rear Adm. Tessa smiled. “I’m sure he had his reasons. Give him a couple before we hail him.”

“Yes,” T’Peira acknowledged, “it would be unlike him to be less than professional.”

“Do you still want sick bay on high alert?” Zipharia had just stepped off the turbolift and she walked to stand beside Tessa and T’Peira.

“I’m not sure that will be needed. Just before Jeffery closed communication he was reporting that the DHD had been secured. We’re waiting before contacting him, just to give him a chance to finish gathering intel.” Adm. T’Peira walked around the captain’s chair and then sat down.

Just as T’Peira leaned back the communications officer announced Beckstrom was hailing.

“Open communications.” T’Peira said.

“Beckstrom here. We’ve had a ‘small’ issue. The DHD is ready to be beamed aboard. Quentin will remain at the site until the DHD is safely onboard. The rest of the away team will beam up now.” Jeffery looked at the child and Ral. They couldn’t take her as she was no longer in danger from the Romulans.

The men arranged themselves around the body of Tanaka, in preparation for transport, when a Romulan started to regain consciousness and reached for a hidden weapon. The last thing Ral saw as the tingle started was the Romulan aiming at Katrina, and with quick reflexes, Ral grabbed Katrina insuring that she would be beamed up and safe.

Quentin quickly changed from stun to kill. aimed and fired at the Romulan. He realized that it was the Romulan commander that was intent on killing a child.

“I’m sure you’ll be missed by someone,” Quentin spoke to the now lifeless body of the commander, “but not by me.”

Quentin looked around at the remaining Romulans, then searched each for any weapons that they hadn’t found and kicked aside earlier. He relieved them of everything he thought could be used as a weapon, gathered the items in a pile and vaporized them.

Quentin flipped open his communicator. “Quentin to T’Peira.”

“Quentin, we noted weapons fire. Are you alright?” T’Peira sat forward.

“Yes,” Quentin said, “I’m fine, but we have one less live Romulan.Seems they’ve developed some sneaky weapons. It’ll be in my report.Are you ever going to get this DHD out of here?”

“And the Romulans too.” T’Peira stated. “T’Peira out.”

Quentin watched as the Romulans were beamed aboard the Aarushi. There was a pause that Quentin knew was to reset the transporter for moving the DHD to the shuttle bay. The DHD left the clearing, and then Quentin was transported up.

“Tessa. you have the bridge. Zipharia, you’re with me. We’ll go greet our little guest and see why she placed herself in jeopardy, then we’ll find her parents.” T’Peira walked into the turbolift.

Zipharia smiled at the thought of a child being the hero. It had a certain pleasant sound.
