to our Valued Investors and frIends thanks to you, and thousands of supporters like you, this year 48,956 South dakota students had the opportunity to learn from a community volunteer through Junior achievement. the Ja model is very powerful - the curriculum presented is strong, but it is the personalization of the program by the classroom volunteer that makes the experience come to life for our students. Junior achievement has been empowering students to succeed in South dakota since 1968; this longevity and continued success is due to supporters like you across the state.

recently, a Ja high school student commented that not only are the Ja programs fun for students, they are making a real difference. Because of Ja, she’s learned the importance of financial literacy, work readiness, entrepreneurship, and ethics. She is able to apply those skills to her life as a high school student and in the future as she enters post-secondary education and the workforce. We know there are many more students across South dakota who share her sentiments. this impact would not have been possible without the support of community partners like you.

Whether you gave your time to volunteer in the classroom, made a donation to help support the program financially, or shared your leadership on one of our local boards, we thank you. thank you for believing our students deserve to learn from dedicated role models who care about them and their future, for helping us encourage students to complete high school and take the path that will lead them to their dream career, and for helping bridge the gap between school and the working world. Most of all, thank you for believing that our students are our future leaders, and giving of yourselves to ensure they have the knowledge and skills they need to be successful.

on behalf of the Junior achievement of South dakota Board of directors, the Ja staff, and over 48,900 South dakota students, please accept our humble thanks for your support and commitment. We look forward to another great year to come!

I think the concepts have more impact on the students since they come from business people outside the school system who could one day be their employer.

Ja student CompetItIons Junior achievement of South dakota hosted two statewide student-based competitions in 2013-14. South dakota Ja students who participated in the Ja titan® and Ja excelling through ethics programs were invited to compete against each other to put their skills and knowledge to the test.

the Ja excelling through ethics competition provided students the opportunity to continue the ethics conversation and provide feedback about what they learned from their Ja volunteer. the competition included both survey and essay questions. the competition winners were anneliese taggart, Vermillion Middle School, (Fall Semester) and Cassidy Segish, Sioux Falls roosevelt high School, (Spring Semester). this competition was sponsored by the achievement Foundation.

the Ja titan program introduces critical economics and management decisions through an interactive simulation. the Ja titan Competition featured an online computer simulation, where participating teams were required to make daily decisions (representing eight quarters) regarding price, production, marketing, research and development, capital investment, and charitable giving. this competition was sponsored by Walmart.
