International English Centeriec.colorado.eduThe International English Center (IEC) offers year-roundprograms featuring ve eight-week sessions of intensiveEnglish as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, combinedwith orientation to university customs, academic preparation

and an introduction to life in the United States. Students aretested on arrival and are placed into classes based on theirprociency in English. Students with little knowledge of Englishshould plan to spend at least one year (ve sessions) in theIEC before entering academic degree study.

College Ready CurriculumThe College Ready Curriculum (CRC) provides internationalstudents with instruction in the academic skills and culturalnorms needed to succeed in American higher education.CRC course topics include the college application process,appropriate interaction with professors and classmates,cross-cultural awareness, creative and critical thinking,avoiding plagiarism, time management and study skills,test preparation and academic vocabulary. The CRC isoffered concurrently with the IEC.

Short-Term StudySemester or YearUndergraduate students have the option of doing short-termstudy, even if there is no formal exchange program betweenthe home university and CU-Boulder. Interested studentsmust complete the admission application process as afull-time, degree seeking student, but can choose to stayfor just one or two semesters.

Summer Sessionwww.colorado.edu/summerCU-Boulder offers a wide range of courses during SummerSession (May–August). Classes tend to be small and intensiveand vary in duration from three to 10 weeks.

The chart on the next page lists the application deadlines andnotication dates. Upon successful admission to the univer-sity, your next step is to conrm your intent to enroll through

your MyCUBoulder account.

5. Receive your I-20 and DS-2019 and apply foryour student visa

After you conrm your intent to enroll, you will be sent anofficial admission notice along with your I-20 or DS-2019form. Once you receive this form, you may apply for yourstudent visa to the United States. This form is required tobegin your visa application.

Freshman/First-Year ApplicantsMany factors are considered in evaluating your application foradmission to CU-Boulder. Although your academic perform-ance in high school is the most important factor, we also con-sider the trend in your grades, the academic rigor of yourcourses, your personal essays and your potential contributionsto the campus community. The SAT/ACT is not requiredunless you are a U.S. citizen, or you would like to be consideredfor merit-based freshman scholarships.
