Generous Grants from the Community

A Legacy of Giving

I came to know one of our donors fairly well. Her name will remain anonymous as that is what I

know she would have wanted. She was 97 when she passed away. During our visits, she would

never fail to tell me how special Bethesda Home was to her. Her grandmother had been a resident

so long ago, and she remembers coming to Bethesda for visits. They would play cards, sit on the

patio, and visit with the other ladies. Bethesda was a happy home for her grandmother, and for

this, she was grateful. Unlike so many of her generation, visiting her grandmother was a pleasant

experience. It is for these reasons that this donor listed Bethesda Home in her will. She would

always say to me, “It is just the right thing to do.” This donor was never married, and lived a

modest life, so we want to be true to her personhood and use the money in a way that would suit

her wishes. She was always interested in building related issues. Knowing that our buildings are

really old, she wanted to be sure we kept up with things.

So, we will be depositing the proceeds of her will into our building futures fund.

An estate gift can be transformational for an organization like Bethesda. The need to remain

competitive and attractive is essential, but all too often funds from general operating revenues do

not stretch far enough. Please consider remembering Bethesda when you are thinking about your

estate plan. All too often, the needs of the elderly are long forgotten in our society. A gift from your

estate would leave your legacy stamp on Bethesda for generations to come.

I give thanks for this donor, and for the privilege of knowing her the final years of her life.

At Bethesda Home, she will never be forgotten.

Julie Boggess, CEO

For decades, Bethesda Home has sought innovative ways to improve our ministry to the

elderly through improved programs and services. Our programming philosophy at Bethesda

revolves around promoting the independence and well-being of our residents, atypical of

the usual institutionalized approach of many nursing facilities. In 2014, we focused our grant

writing efforts around supporting our resident programming. We are proud to announce…

Bethesda Home is the proud recipient of two community grants!

We received $37,500 from the Christopher Family Foundation to enhance and refurbish

our 2nd floor dining room to improve the dining experience for our residents and their

loved ones, as meal time is a time to gather family, friends, while providing access to food

like at home. The Christopher Family Foundation supports initiatives that strengthen

Christian faith, that educate, that encourage health and family well being, and that inspire

creativity.

We received $15,242 from Russell & Josephine Kott Memorial Charitable Fund to

re-create existing space in on our 2nd floor living room and create the “Sensory Center”

for individuals with dementia and cognitive impairments. The overall goal of the Sensory

Center is create a safe, pleasurable, failure-free environment while stimulating multiple

senses throughout the day, thus improving the quality of life for our residents. We plan to

purchase new, fun, exciting equipment for this space. Renovations will begin in March so

stay tuned for more information.
