Difculties in Young Children (Snow, et.al.) that has established a road-map to
successfully develop language and pre-literacy skills appropriately for children, ages3-5. The critical concepts of phonological awareness, oral language development,
dialogical reading, print awareness, and letter identication will be introduced and
reinforced with fun interactive activities you can share with your preschoolers.

Opening the World of Possibilities: Reading and Writing with Digital MediaSheila Shaw, KPTS Channel 8
Session 1
Wondering how to incorporate media into your daily interactions with children?Media has the potential to overcome barriers so all children, regardless of
circumstances, can explore the world around them and develop a love of learning!
This session is designed for child care center teachers and family care providers to
better utilize digital media - primarily television and online resources available from
PBS - in assisting young children with the tools needed as they develop literary andreading skills.
Precious Cargo: Getting Children There and Back Safely

This session will be an overview on child passenger restraint systems, with a lookat state laws on transporting children. We will also discuss what to do if you are
involved in a car crash. You will practice hands-on car seating positioning. During
this class you will have an opportunity to set up an appointment for customized car
seat plans on a one on one basis.

Come share an amazing time with The Bug Lady. She has animals ranging from
Charlotte the tarantula to Tucker the Amazon Parrot. The Bug Lady shares the
benets of having animals, insects, and nature. Come and watch feeding demos
with different kinds of lizards. Learn about habitats, diets, and the easiest and leastexpensive ways to maintain animals in your classroom. Many animals & insects can
be handled. Its a fun time for all - especially for the animals...they love the attention!

Its all about working together for our children learn about the critical skills in
developing partnerships with parents, surveyors, and the community including
collaboration, crucial conversations, customer service, conict resolution,cooperation, and community building.

Participants will engage in interactive activities using natural materials that are age
appropriate and available in city parks and other outside areas. This will include
classication, description, and creative expression. Included in the training are ways
to engage families in outside activities that explore their natural environment inarea neighborhoods.
Understanding Early Childhood Mental Health

Upon the completion of this professional development event participants will have

What is SPD and How Do I Know if a Child Has It?

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) occurs in 1 out of 20 children, where they
have signicant difculties in one or more of the 7 senses (the 5 main ones plus 2
signicant others). Children may be labeled by teachers as quirky, picky, clumsy, or
rough-n-tumble. With help, children and their caregivers can learn to manage SPD
symptoms.

Growing With Children Registraons:
For each session, please choose one workshop and two alternave workshops from those listed. You
will be assigned classes based on this ranking and space availability. The earlier we receive your paid
registraon, the more likely it is you can have your top choice. (In the unlikely event there is no room for
you to aend any of your choices, we will call). If you would like conrmaon of your assigned classes
please include your email address on your conference registraon. Online registraons save money and
choose the exact class they will receive.
Directors Chair Registraon
Directors Chair Conference has no oponal choices of workshops. Online registraons save money.
Lunch:
A buet lunch is included in your registraon fees. If you are needing a vegitarian meal, please indicate
that on your registraon form. Cold pop will be sold for $1.00 each. Other snacks will be available for
purchase as well.
Early Bird Discount:
Registraons postmarked aer the Early Bird cut o date (2/21/14) will not qualify for a discount and any
balance will be due at the me of check-in on the day of the conference. You will be sent an email detailing
if and why you owe an addional registraon fee.
Member Discounts:
The cost for Growing with Children is reduced for those who have a current 2013-2014 membership with
Child Start.
The cost for Directors Chair is reduced for those who have a current 2013-2014 membership with the Early
Childhood Directors Organizaon.
Child Start Professional Development Membership credits do not apply to this conference.
Refunds:
Sorry, there are no refunds for either Growing With Children or Directors Chair. If you are wanng to add a
dierent name to an exisng registraon, you must do so by 2/28/14.
