WELCOME!

Summer is fast approaching!

Welcome to the FIS Summer Camp Brochure. Each year, the FIS Summer Camps provide

experiences to remember for returning students and new participants.

This brochure includes the offerings for the 2014 Summer. We hope that you find something

of interest and decide to join in on the fun this year.

Our skilled and enthusiastic instructors create a safe, fun and supportive environment for

participants to develop. We provide the perfect setting to extend the learning that takes

place during the school year by giving children the opportunity to be innovative and

discover new interests.

Come and join our summer camp activities where you will meet new friends, have fun,

learn, and enjoy a range of courses. Seize the opportunity to experience our international

community and come away with lifelong memories.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Important Dates:Session I: 23 June – 4 July

Session II: 7 – 18 July

Session III: (ESL/Intensive English Camp): 28 July – 8 August

Registration begins Monday, 17 February

Early bird discounts end 14 March

Online Registration:The online registration form is available on our website at

www.fis.edu. It can be found in the Student Life section under

Summer Camps > Oberursel Campus. Parents are asked to

complete a registration form for each child separately. An email

confirming the receipt of each registration will be sent. Class

sizes are limited and preference is first given to FIS families and

second to those who apply earliest.

Some sessions fill quickly; we strongly recommend early

registration. However, should there be camps with insufficient

enrollment, the course may be cancelled.

Confirmation of registration:After being placed in a camp, you will receive a second e-mail

confirming your son or daughter’s participation. This e-mail will

include all necessary information regarding the payment and

participation in the camp.

Early Bird Discount:Families who register on or before 14 March receive a €20 Early

Bird Discount for each submitted registration. Families who

register on or after Saturday, 15 March must pay the full price

for each program.

Payment:Payments are only accepted by bank transfer after you have

received confirmation of participation. Be sure to write REAL

Summer Camp, the name of the participant, and the course or

activity on the bank transfer. Please send the bank transfer to:

Other Information:Lunch is not provided. All participants must bring their own

lunch and snacks. The registration fees include a summer

camp t-shirt.

Cancellation Policy:If a participant drops out of a program before summer camp

begins, there will be a €50 cancellation fee. If a participant

drops out after it begins or does not show up, they will be

charged a €100 cancellation fee. Exceptions will only be made

in extreme circumstances. Medical reasons require a doctor’s

note.

PRIMARY SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP

The First Steps to Grade 1 Full Day Program is dedicated to the idea that a child’s summer

should be about having fun, learning new things, meeting new friends, and exploration!

We offer a wide range of activities to help your child’s social development, confidence,

responsibility, teamwork, and inquiry. The camp includes many hands-on and engaging

activities. Each day has a structured routine and the camp is a great way for children who

will be joining our school in August to meet new friends and get to know FIS. Every day

your child will have indoor and outdoor play.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP

This camp is intended to give Elementary School children an opportunity to explore and

discover new interests. Campers will have access to a variety of activities in a safe, fun and

caring environment.

A rotating schedule will be utilized allowing campers to sample various activities and work

with different teachers while staying within the comfort of their summer class groupings.

Morning classes may include Design/Computer Technology, Creative/Performing Arts,

Sports & Games, and Language Arts.

After lunch, campers will have the opportunity to participate in group activities such

as swimming, sports activities, arts & crafts projects, and various field trips. Campers are

encouraged to try new things, make friends, and have fun.

Afternoon Activities may include:

• Swimming(OberurselSchwimmbad)

• CreativeMovement./Dance

ESL - ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE OPTION:

Families may sign up for an ESL option within the Elementary School Summer Camp. The

ESL option is ideal for students who wish to improve their English by receiving instruction

from an ESL trained teacher who will create a learning environment best suited for

improvement of written and oral English. ESL students will be part of most regular camp

activities, but their class rotation will include an ESL course instead of Language Arts. If you

wish to select the ESL Option, please specify your choice when you submit the registration

form.

GRADE 6-8 SUMMER CAMP

The summer camp for students in grades 6-8 will focus on providing a fun learning

experience for its participants. Qualified teachers will work collaboratively to ensure

delivery of content in an enjoyable classroom atmosphere.

A four subject class rotation will be utilzed each day. Morning classes may include Design/

Computer Technology, Creative/Performing Arts, Sports & Games, and Language Arts. In

the afternoons, various engaging activities will be offered. Students will enjoy time both

indoors and outdoors daily and will participate in various field trip during each session.

Afternoon Activities may include:

The extended day program is complementary to the core summer programs. It provides a

seamless and consistent experience for those families who seek an enjoyable and relaxing

time after regular camp activites have concluded.

Our qualified instructors will plan a variety of activities throughout the week, which include

sports, indoor/outdoor games, and arts & crafts. Campers will be provided with a drink and

a snack each afternoon.

The Extended Day Program is a great way to finish off the day!

ALEKS is a web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system for studying

mathematics. Through adaptive questioning your child will be on a learning path that is

specifically designed to meet his/her needs for remediation, retention, and acceleration.

This activity fee covers a three-month subscription to the www.aleks.com online learning

system plus an advisor from school. This advisor will assist in initial setup, course placement

level at the beginning of the summer. A progress report will be provided in the middle of the

summer and a final evaluation in August.

The online program is available 24 hours a day to be completed at each individual’s pace and

convenience. There are no face-to-face meetings for this course.

Dates:This course is online only.

Age:Entering in Fall 2014Grades 4 - 12 (Ages 9 - 19)

Cost:€ 75 for a 3-month sub-scription (There is no Early Bird Discount for

this course.)

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) CAMP

Students will be immersed in an English speaking and learning environment. This course will

focus on developing English speaking, reading and writing skills. It is a great opportunity to

begin a new language in a comfortable, non-competitive surrounding.

Learning will be collaborative and project based. All activities will aim to improve English

comprehension. There will be specialized classes in subject areas such as art, music, games

and sports/PE.

Afternoon activities may include:

The Intensive English Program is designed to help non-native English speakers to improve

their English by concentrating on academic vocabulary as well as comprehension. Reading

and speaking will be important parts of the program. Advanced grammar will be taught

in context with different themes. Media and technology are used to enhance the learning

experience of the students. Writing, conversation and active listening are practiced to

ensure English comprehension in a variety of contexts related to the themes of study.

There may be field trips to enhance authentic learning in different situations. The course will

help the non-native English speaker feel more comfortable in academic situations.

SWEDEN CANOE TRIP

The Sweden Canoe Trip will take place in the warmest and the most picturesque area of

Sweden: Värmland. It is located to the east of the Norwegian border, 120 km south-east of

Oslo. We will move from island to island in canoes and have all our required equipment and

food with us. We will have two canoeing groups: one group canoeing approximately 65 km

round-trip and the other touring around the banks of Lake Foxen for approximately 50 km.

This trip includes:

VOLLEYBALL CAMP

This camp is designed for all skill levels; beginners through varsity level players. Students

will be divided into either a morning or afternoon session based upon ability levels. The

morning session will primarily consist of beginners.

During camp, all skills, including setting, passing, hitting, serving, diving, blocking, and

offensive and defensive strategies will be covered. Middle School and Junior Varsity level

players will learn the 4-2 system and Varsity players the 6-2 system. The camp will be led by

Christine Moore (long-time FIS Varsity Boys Coach).

We look forward to having another successful volleyball camp so come and join the fun!

The camp cost includes a t-shirt and a photo. Once registration takes place, you will be

contacted about supplies needed.

AFTER FAMILIES REGISTER, THE CAMP DIRECTOR WILL PLACE PARTICIPANTS INTO

MORNING OR AFTERNOON SESSION BASED ON THEIR ABILITY LEVELS. THE WEEKEND

SESSIONS WILL BE FOR ALL CAMPERS.

THE INTERNATIONAL SOCCER CAMP

Dates:4 August - 8 August

Cost:€ 175 for first child€ 170 for eachadditional child(There is no Early Bird Discount

for this camp.)

Join coaches Mike and Sue Fitzpatrick along with players from the FIS Varsity soccer teams

at FIS, for a week of exciting sports action. Every camp participant will receive a camp t-shirt.

The camp is for both experienced and beginning players. We will instill a love for the game

and the successful experience will surely affect other areas of your life!

For more experienced players, the camp will include training drills to develop explosive

speed and power, while also teaching control regardless of what sport you play. The camp is

designed to develop those who desire to become competitive athletes.

FIS/FISW Summer Golf CampWiesbadener Golf Club

Dates:4 August - 8 August

Location:Wiesbadener Golf Club

Cost:€ 220 per person

Early Bird Discount:Register on or before 14 March and

All participants will receive small group and individual instruction from PGA Pro Kevin

Cremer and Golf Pro Martin Weick. An emphasis on the the basics: grip, stance, posture,

backswing, and downswing will be covered during our one week camp. We will also cover

basic chipping and pitching techniques to improve your golf game and scores.

The cost of the camp includes: rental clubs if required, range balls and snacks. The final day

of camp includes a small pitch and putt tournament, food, and awards. Members of the

Wiesbadener Golf Club receive a 30 euro discount.
