    Festival2014

    MALAYSIAN YOUTH MUSIC

    The 8th Malaysian Youth Music Festival 2014 will be held on the 13th and 14th September 2014 at the

    Putrajaya Marriott Hotel. Apart from the usual music competitions, MYOF will organize various workshops

    and master classes for participants and teachers on Sunday the 14th. There will also be more selection of

    compulsory pieces for the Young Artists Categories. Online applications for the competitions will start from

    the 15th April onwards until the 15th of June. A new Q&A section will be posted on our website for reference.

    Please read the Q&A section to understand more about the revised application procedures, additional rules

    and new application fees structure with added value subsidies for participants to attend various workshops

    and masterclasses.

    WORKSHOPS & MASTER CLASSES

    Various workshops and master classes will be organized on the 2nd day of the festival, Sunday, 14th September.

    More details will be published before registration opens for the festival. All participants will be entitled for special

    rates if registered during the early bird period (by 15th June). If registered after 15th June, the participants will

    have to pay the normal rates. Registration for master classes and workshops must be done latest by 30th July on

    a first come first served basis. Confirmation for workshops and master classes are subject to demand. For more

    APPLICATION DATES:

    15th APRIL to 15th JUNE 2014

    NEW APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Payment must be made BEFORE filling up the online registration form. (Please

    read application procedure in the guidelines section) A photo or digital payment receipt in pdf or jpeg format must beuploaded on the initial application page to be able to continue with the online application.APPLICATION WITH NO

    PROPER PAYMENT RECEIPT WILL NOT BE PROCESSED AND PAYMENT WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

    AGE GROUP GUIDE: Participants cannot be no more than the maximum age stipulated in the AGE column on the

    festival date 13th September 2014.

    PERFORMANCE DURATION: Performance time will be timed from the first note being played, inclusive of any

    introduction by the accompanist for String instruments. Should a performance go over the time limit, the judges will

    have the right to stop the performance.

    MUSIC SCORES: There will be no need to submit music scores during registration. Participants must bring a copy

    of the score with their names written on top to be given to the judge assistant before the start of the competition.

    REMINDER: Rules and regulations need to be thoroughly read and understood before submission. After

    submitting the online registration form, all participants will be given a 7 day grace period should they wish to

    change their competition piece. An email notification is necessary to request for the change. After this 7 day grace

    period and before the competition schedule is published, any change of piece will incur a RM50 penalty.No change

    of pieces or categories will be allowed once the competition schedule has been published.

    1. Read all the rules and regulations thoroughly, including categories requirements / notes.

    2. Make payment for single or combined multiple entries (a single payment for multiple entries) by banking in the appropriate fees.

    3. Log on to www.myof.org.myand click on the Music Festival button, then the Application Form button. Participants mustsubmit the online application form within the same day of banking in the fees.Date and type of payment made must be indicated

    in the online application form. This process is essential for the organizer to match the payment to the application. PAYMENT

    RECEIPT NEEDS TO BE UPLOADED BEFORE GOING ON TO THE NEXT APPLICATION STAGE

    4. Fill in all the required information, valid contact details, email address and click submit. By submitting the application form, it

    means all the rules and regulations have been read, understood and accepted by the applicant, or the teachers, parents if applicant is

    below 16 years of age.

    5. Each submission is only valid for a single entry. For multiple entries, please submit separately. Multiple entries can have the same

    payment info and receipt uploaded for each submission if one combined payment is made.

    6. An automated email notification will be sent to the registered email address immediately after submitting the online application.Please ensure correct or valid email address is given. If no email notification is received on the same day, please check spam or

    junk mail box before writing to the organizer to check the status of application.

    7. A digital receipt will only be emailed when confirmation of payment via bank statement is received by the organizer.

    8. Application will only be processed if payment is made prior-to submitting the application form.

    2013 FESTIVALS RULES & REGULATIONS

    REGISTRATION & PENALTY

    1. Only online application via the foundations website www.myof.org.myfrom 15th April to 15th June 2014 will be accepted.

    2. This competition is open to all Malaysians and any foreign music students.

    2. The organizer reserves the right to alter and reassign the category of participants entry should the participant register under

    the wrong age group category. Participant will be duly informed once the organizer has made the decision and any payment

    discrepancy must be paid in full by the 15thAugust 2014 unless advised, otherwise the entry will be disqualified and payment

    nonrefundable.

    3. Should any participant register in the wrong age group category and is reassigned by the organizer to the proper category, a

    penalty of RM50 is required for the change along with any top up of fees according to the fee chart. No refund of balance

    will be made to those who will be reassigned to lower age group category.

    4. After submitting the online registration form, all participants will be given a 7 day grace period from the date of submission

    should they wish to change their competition piece. An email notification is necessary to request for the change. After this 7

    day grace period and before the competition schedule is published, any change of piece will incur a RM50 penalty. No

    change of piece will be allowed once the competition schedule has been published.

    5. No refunds allowed for no-show or pullouts after submission of entry forms and payments. No change of participants name

    is allowed once the entry forms have been submitted. Please type names in the form correctly. The organizer will not

    entertain any reprint of certificate due to wrong name submission after the 7 day grace period.

    6. For outside Malaysias entries, kindly transfer the exact amount in Ringgit Malaysia along with any bank charges. If transfer

    in Ringgit Malaysia is not available, use this guideline to avoid insufficient fee payment:

    COMPETITION FEE IN RM 3.4 = USD amount (round up to higher amount)

    Example: RM160 3.4 = 47.05 (round up to USD48) to be transferred.

    TYPE OF ENTRIES:

    7. Any one solo applicant may enter more than one entry in different genre indicated by code eg. B11 and MB11 (Either

    Baroque to 20th Century ORModern Pieces) in the same instrument category as long as it is of the same age group category.

    Multiple entries from the same participant need a separate application form for each entry but may combine all in one

    payment.

    8. The only limitation in solo entry for Age 5 and below as well as 6-8 years old is: participants entering BB5 cannot enter in

    BG5, and similarly, BB8 participant cannot enter a second entry in BG8.

    9. The Modern genrein the piano & stringscategory means modern pieces ranging from pop, folk, jazz, blues etc.10. Entries are accepted on a first come first served basis. The organizer reserves the right to extend any event to accommodate

    entries received or to close the competition entries before the closing date should the number of entries received exceeds the

    time allotted. Should application be rejected because the selected category is full, or canceled due to no participation, a full

    refund of entry fees will be made to participant.

    11. The organizer reserves the right to combine or divide any age group category depending on the numbers of applicants in each

    category.

    CODE BB & BG LEVELS:

    12. Code BB5 is for young beginners, usually within first year of learning an instrument, and BB8 is for late beginners, also

    within first year of learning an instrument. Code BG5 and BG8 are for students who have achieved graded levels after

    beginners stage.

    13. Pieces chosen will be evaluated for suitability for beginner level in both Code BB5 and BB8 categories. Organizers

    reserves the right to reassign those not suitable for BB categories to BG categories based on the pieces chosen.

    SCHEDULING:

    14. Request for specific timing for the competition will not be entertained.

    15. The organizer will try their best to schedule participants time slot with multiple entries. However, please take note that there

    will be some cases where clashes of competition classes are unavoidable; therefore, the participants may need to move

    between competition rooms during the midst of any competition classes.

    AWARDS:16. Trophies or medals will be awarded to all the first prize winners, first and second runner ups of every competition class as

    well as selected numbers of consolation prizes. Cash awards will only be applicable to the Young Artists Categories and the

    Creative Piano Categories. The organizers reserve the right to change the value and type of awards given at any time without

    prior-notice.

    17. A certificate of participation will be given out to all contestants after the competition of the respective class, and a certificateof appreciation will also be awarded to the teacher of the first prizewinners in recognition of their successful coaching and

    guidance to their students.

    18. All participants are required to pick up their certificates during the festival either from the judge assistants, door

    crew or at the reception counters if uncollected after the competition class. The organizer will not retain uncollected

    certificates and will not entertain collections after the festival. Should there be error in name printing of certificates due

    to typo errors made during the application process, the organizer may reprint the certificates on the spot with a penalty cost

    of RM5 per copy. If printing is not available during the festival day, a postal and service charge of RM10 within Malaysia

    must be paid at the registration table on the festival day.

    ADDITIONAL RULES:

    19. All judges decisions are final. Judges may not need to award any prizes should any performance not meet the minimum

    requirements.

    20. Judges have the right to extend or stop any participants performance regardless of the performance duration indicated in the

    list. Participants are advised to choose pieces no more than the performance duration indicated to avoid judges cutting their

    performance short.

    21. The organizer will assume that the rules and regulations have been read and understood by participants themselves, their

    teachers, guardians or parents once entries have been submitted along with payment.

    22. For the String Solo & Duo Categories, the piano accompanist is not compulsory. Only registered accompanist will be given

    a day pass and does not have to pay the entrance fees. Unregistered accompanist will need to buy a day pass. Only live piano

    accompaniment is allowed.

    23. Entrants consent to the use of their photographs or videotaped performances for advertising or promotional purposes by the

    organizer.

    24. The application for theinstrumental and chamber ensembleneeds to include:

    a. Name of the group

    b. Name and contact details of the person in charge for communication, i.e. Teacher / music school / conductor.

    c. Individual names of the group members and age.

    d. Accompanists for instrumental or chamber ensemble is considered part of the ensemble group members

    and the age of the accompanist must adhere to the same age group entered.

    25. The Piano Duetcategory is for one piano with four hands only. Names and contact details of both the players needs to be

    submitted during application.

    26. Applicants must bring a copy of their score and hand it to the Judge Assistant in the competition room before the competition

    starts. Applicants name needs to be clearly written on top of the first page of the music score. Scores must be collected back

    after the performance.

    27. For solo entry, participants need to be no more than the maximum age stipulated in the AGE column on the date of the

    festival, i.e. 13th September 2014. For Group Entry, the age of the oldest participant determines which age group to join.

    YOUNG ARTISTS CATEGORY:

    28. All Young Artists Participants have to prepare one piece from the compulsory piece selection to be performed at the first

    round on the 13th September 2014. It is up to the judges if they want to hear the entire performance or part performance.

    29. Finalists selected from the first round of the Young Artists Category will perform their free choice piece on the 2nd festival

    day on the 14th September 2014 to compete for the top 3 Patron Awards.

    COMPETITION SCHEDULE

    1. The completed schedule and timing for all the competition classes will be available on the MYOF website three to four weeks

    before the festival. Schedule will also be emailed out to all the participants. Hard copy will not be sent out. Published schedule willconsist of only the timing of each competition class and names of the participants. The details of pieces will only be available in the

    Festivals program book. Festival program book will be available for sale at the festival.

    2. It is the responsibility of the participants to check our website periodically after the schedule has been published for any updates in

    the schedule. Updated schedules posted on MYOFs website will bear the title Competition Schedule (with updated date).

    DAY PASSES

    1. All supporters and observers must buy a day pass on the festival day to enter into the competition rooms. The day pass is valid for

    observing any competition in all the rooms for the entire day as well as any performances. Workshop participants need not buy a

    day pass on Sunday 14th September.

    FULL DAY PASS: Valid from 9am to 6pm. RM25 (Adult) RM15 (Child 12 years old and below).

    HALF DAY PASS: Valid from 2pm to 6pm. RM12 (Adult) RM8 (Child 12 years old and below).

    For festivals observer, return the 1st day pass to buy the 2nd day pass at RM15 Adult and RM10 Child.

    * NOTE: Half day pass will only be sold from 1.30pm onwards.

    WORKSHOPS & MASTER CLASSES:

    1. Registration for workshops or master classes will need to emailed to [email protected]

    2. Forms will be emailed to interested participants upon an initial email request.

    3. Full payment will need to be made by dateline given on the workshop and master classes leaflet in-order to secure a slot. Early

    birds discount is only applicable when registering by 15th June 2014.

    4. Details of faculty members offering master classes will be published on our website from June onwards.

    5. Workshop and master class participants will be given free day passes to observe the festival.

    6. The operation of all workshops will depend on a minimum number required, subject to demand. Should any workshop is canceled

    due to lack of participants or any other unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be given for the fees paid.
