HEAD COACH | MCCAll SAlMOn

McCall Salmon is in her first season as the head coach for the softball program after five years as the top assistant/associate head coach. During her five years under Ronda Varnesdeel, Salmon served as the recruiting coordinator for the Panthers and worked directly with the infielders and developing DU’s offensive skills.

After a very successful playing career at Aquinas College, Salmon will use her knowledge and skills to continue to mold a program that finished 31-24 in 2009, 46-16 in 2010 and clinched an NAIA National Tournament berth in 2011 and 2013.  Over the last three seasons, Salmon has helped the Panthers claim a pair of regular season conference champi-onships (2011, 2012) and two tournament championships (2011 and 2013).

A first baseman/utility player for the Saints, McCall led her team to three straight WHAC Championships from 2005-2007 and the team posted a 134-70 overall record during her time there. Individually, Salmon earned All-WHAC honors in 2004, 2006 and 2007 while serving as the Saints team captain during her junior and senior campaigns.  She also excelled in the classroom at Aqui-nas as she was named to the All-WHAC Academic team in 2006 and 2007 and was an NAIA Scholar Athlete in her senior year. At the completion of her senior year, Salmon was also honored with the prestigious Helen Louise Brogger Award which is given to the top female athlete in the graduating class.

Salmon received a Bachelor of Science degree from Aquinas in Business Administration and Sports Management and is currently working on her Master of Art degree in Sport Administration at Central Michigan.

McCall lives in Grand Ledge, MI with her husband Paul and son Colt.

The Farmers Athletic Complex was dedicated on March 20, 2013 and with it came the first home fields ever for baseball, softball and tennis. The complex is located on 68th Street just south of the University's W.A. Lettinga Campus and Farmers Insurance Group offices in Caledonia Township.

Artificial turf is utilized for the entire baseball field and outfield for the softball stadium. The baseball stadium seats 300 and the softball 200 spectators respectively. Dimensions for the baseball field are 330 feet to left and right field and 400 feet to center, while dimensions for the softball field are 200 feet to left and right, and 210 feet to center. The new athletic complex will also include eight tennis courts.

The softball and baseball teams both split their opening series on the fields on March 27 as baseball fell to Aquinas 6-1 before defeating the Saints 10-4. In softball, DU picked up an opening game win over NCAA DII Northwood 9-6 before falling 17-9 in extra inning. In tennis, DU hosted Cornerstone on April 4 as the men defeated the Golden Eagles 8-1 and the women won 9-0.
