Vavasour has been at the forefront of Marlboroughs emergence as a world class producer having PIONEERED grape growing in the Awatere Valley sub region of Marlborough, planting the first vines in 1985.

Awatere: Planted 1985. Smaller valley, drier , cooler, windier. Typically lower yields, smaller berries. Less fertile, no underground aquifers.

Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc wines tend to show more stone fruit, melon, gooseberry and citrus characters underscored by a minerality or flinty characteristic.

Awatere: Planted 1985. Smaller valley, drier , cooler, windier. Typically lower yields, smaller berries. Less fertile, no underground aquifers.
