2014-2016 Competition Handbook Appendix C – Requirements for Set Routines

Published: Dec 2015 C-3

The requirements cannot be fulfilled by combining them into one element but must

be performed as separate elements.

Senior International

Each competitor must mark two elements with an asterisk (*) on their competition

cards. The Degree of Difficulty marks for these two elements will be added to the

competitor’s execution score to the competitor’s total score for their first routine.

A competitor may choose to perform skills different than those marked with an

asterisk without penalty. The DD of the skills performed in substitution of the

asterisked elements will then be used to calculate the competitor’s total score for

their first routine.

Neither of the two skills asterisked or their substitutes may be repeated in the

Voluntary routine of the Preliminary round. If such a skill is repeated, the difficulty of

each repeated skill will not be counted towards the competitor’s total score for their

second routine.

If any routine fails to meet the requirements of this section, a deduction of 1.0 mark

will be made for each missing requirement. Such deductions will be applied to any

routine including incomplete routines.

For New Zealand competitions, the minimum total Degree of Difficulty of the two

asterisked elements must be 2.0 for women and 2.2 for men.

C.2 Limitations on the Degree of Difficulty

The FIG TRA Trampoline Committee has placed limits on the difficulty of individual skills in

the three disciplines for the World Age Group Competitions. These limits will also apply to

all sanctioned competitions in New Zealand and no single skill shall exceed the limits set

out below.

Skills of a higher difficulty may be performed during a routine, but the maximum difficulty

awarded for any skill will be capped at the limits shown above.

Published: Dec 2015 F-1

F Protocol for the GymSports New Zealand National Secondary Schools Trampoline Competition

The Secondary Schools trampoline competitions are intended as an opportunity for students

of all abilities and experience to try the sport of trampolining. Entered in one of five grades,

each student competes both for themselves and the prestige of their school against students

of similar experience and ability.

A student does not need to be a member of a trampoline or gymnastics club to compete in A,

B or C Grade but they should have some experience of bouncing on a full size trampoline and

practice their routines before the competition. Most local trampoline or gymnastics clubs will

welcome the opportunity help the students prepare for the competition and a list of these

clubs can be found on the GymSports NZ website at www.gymsportsnz.com

Teams Competition:

A teams competition will be held to find the best team in each Grade as well as for the best

school overall. The teams will be automatically created by the competition organisers on the

day using the scores achieved by the students in the Individual Competition. Each team will

consist of three athletes who may be of either gender.

Grade’s Team Competition.

For the teams’ competition in each Grade, the students in the team must be competing

in the same Grade and the organisers will create each team by sorting the school’s

students in descending order based on their final score in the individual competition.

They will then group the athletes in to groups of three from the top down and each

group will constitute a separate team for that school.

The final scores of the athletes in each team will then be summed to give a team score

and the school whose team has the highest team score in each Grade will be the winner

of their Grade.

A school can have more than one team in each Grade if they have enough students.

Overall Team Competition

The students in a school’s team in the overall team competition can be from any Grade

and will be created using the same process as described for the Grades competition.

The total scores of the athletes in each team will then be summed to give a team score

and the school whose team has the highest team score will be the winner of the Overall

Team competition.

A school can have more than one team in the overall team competition if they have

enough students.

The composition of a school’s team(s) in this section of the competition may well be

different from those created for the Grades competition because their students from all

of the Grades will be mixed together before sorting them in to descending order based

on their score.

Individual Competition:

Individual awards will be given out the winning male and female students in each Grade with

the student with the highest total score in a Grade being the winner for that Grade.

Published: Dec 2015 F-2

Trampoline Routines:

Each student must perform two routines; a ‘Set Routine’ and a ‘Voluntary Routine’.

The Routines performed by a student must follow the requirements specified for the Grade

in which they are competing.

For students in Junior Elite, A Grade, B Grade and C Grade, the Set Routine can only contain

the skills specified below and they must be undertaken in the order shown. Students in the

Elite Grade can chose their own skills for the Set Routine as long as the overall routine meets

the requirements specified.

The Voluntary Routine for Elite, Junior Elite, A Grade and B Grade can include any 10 skills

chosen by the student, but it should be noted that some grades have limits on the difficulty

of each skill allowed. The order in which the skills are undertaken can also be chosen by the

student.

Students in C Grade must use the Set Routine specified for C Grade as their Voluntary

Routine however the difficulty of the skills in the routine will be counted in the total score for

their Voluntary Routine.

Scoring:

A student’s Set Routine will only be scored on how well they execute each skill in the routine.

There will be no marks awarded for the difficulty of the skills in their Set Routine.

The student’s Voluntary Routine will be scored on how well they execute each skill and how

difficult each skill was to complete. These marks are then added together to give a total score

for the routine.

The athlete’s final score will be the sum of the marks gained in the Set Routine plus the

marks gained in the Voluntary Routine.

More information about the possible skills an athlete can undertake, how the routines are

marked and each skill’s difficulty can be found online at the FIG (Fédération Internationale de

Gymnastique) website or the GymSports NZ Trampoline Handbook available from the

GymSports NZ website. A local trampoline, gymnastics club or GymSports NZ representative

may also be able to help find this information.

Competition Grades:

Each student must be entered in one of the five following grades. The particular grade they

enter is dependent upon their ability and experience in competitive trampoline.

Elite any student who has competed as a Junior International or

Senior International in a New Zealand trampoline competition*

within the last 24 months must compete in this grade.

Junior

Elite

any student who has competed as a Sub-Junior International, or

in the 13-14 Age Group, or older Age Group in a New Zealand

trampoline competition* within the last 24 months must compete

in this grade or the Elite grade.

A Grade this grade is suitable for students who regularly undertake

trampoline as a recreational activity or past athletes however;

any student who has competed as an 11 or 12 year old in a New

Zealand trampoline competition* within the last 24 months must

compete in this grade or a higher grade.

2014-2016 Competition Handbook Appendix F – National Secondary Schools Competition

Published: Dec 2015 F-3

B Grade this grade is suitable for students who have some trampoline

knowledge but who do not visit a trampoline club regularly

C Grade this grade is for students who are just beginning trampoline at a

recreational level * for the purposes of this protocol, a New Zealand trampoline competition is any trampoline

competition at which a student can qualify for the annual NZ Gymsports Championships.

Trampoline Cards:

A separate trampoline card must be completed for each student except those competing in C

Grade. The cards must be handed to the competition organisers before the start of the

competition and is to list those skills the student will be undertaking in both their Set and

Voluntary Routines as well as the order in which the skills will be performed.

For their Set Routine, the student must undertake the skills written on their card and they

must be performed in the same order as well. A deduction of 1.0 from the student’s total Set

score will be made for any specified requirement which is missing from the student’s routine

as well as a deduction of 1.0 for each skill which is repeated.

Specific Requirements for Each Grade:

General Notes for Competitors:

Each judge marks the execution of a routine out of 10 with a maximum of 1.00 being

awarded for each skill.

Degree of difficulty is calculated and added to the execution mark for the voluntary

routine only.

If a student forgets or stops in a routine at any stage before the 10th skill is

completed, the routine score is calculated up to that point.

A routine must be performed in a continual motion without stops or bounces

between skills.

A student may not do flick-flacs, forward/backward rolls, round off etc as part of

their routine.

Skills should not be repeated within the same routine unless specified. A deduction

of 1.0 will be made by each execution judge for every skill which is repeated in the

Set Routine (Elite Grade only). No deduction will be made for skills repeated in the

Voluntary Routine but no difficulty mark will be awarded for the second occurrence

of the skill.

The skill “to feet” is not considered a repeat if coming from a different landing

position.

At the beginning of each routine, the student should wait on the trampoline until told

to start by the judges.

At the end of each routine, the athlete should stand still on the trampoline for 3

seconds before leaving the trampoline.

The final or 10th skill must finish on the feet, and stop without rebound; although an

extended jump (out bounce) may be used after the final skill.

Always make sure the routine selected is one which the student can complete with

good style, confidence and safely.

For further information about the sport of trampoline please contact a local

trampoline or gymnastics club or visit the trampoline pages of the GymSports NZ

website at http://www.gymsportsnz.com/page/trampoline_tra.html

G Protocol for New Zealand Masters Games

The trampoline competition at the New Zealand Masters Games will consist of both

individual and synchronised trampoline events; each of which will have a novice and

advanced category.

Each athlete may compete in either or both types of trampoline but must compete in the

same category for both individual and synchronised events. Athletes competing in the

novice category must have been out of competitive trampoline for a minimum of 2 years,

while the advanced category is open to all those who meet the age criteria.

Athletes in the individual events will be further divided into gender and age categories;

20-29, 30-39 or 40yrs+.

Age differences in the synchronised events will be moderated through the allocation of

bonus points with each athlete having 0.1 points added to their total score for each year

over the age of 25. i.e. 20-25 years – no bonus points; 26 years – 0.1 bonus points; 27

years – 0.2 bonus points; etc..

Novice - Individual

Novice athletes are to complete two routines with each routine comprising 10 skills chosen

by the athlete from the skills shown in the list below. The skills can be competed in any

order chosen by the athlete.

Each routine is to be completed without any straight bounces between skills and only one

skill from the list of Advanced Bonus Skills can be executed during the routine. A Basic or

Bonus skill may be repeated during the routine, however the difficulty of any repeated skill

will only be counted once.

A novice athlete’s second routine is not required to be a repeat of their first routine and

may include none, some or all skills used in their first routine.

Skills which may be used in the Novice Category, with their associated difficulty values,

are:

Each routine will be scored in two parts; execution and difficulty. The execution mark will

be out of 10 points and the difficulty mark will be the sum of the difficulty values of the

completed skills. The execution and difficulty marks will be added to make a total score for

the routine. The combined total score of the two routines will determine the athletes

placing in the competition. The winner will be the athlete with the highest aggregate score.

A routine comprising the skills listed below is an example of a routine that could be used

for the Individual Novice category. The routines difficulty mark has also been shown.

Advanced - Individual

Advanced athletes are to complete two routines with each routine comprising 10 skills

chosen by the athlete. The skills can be competed in any order chosen by the athlete.

2014-2016 Competition Handbook Appendix G – NZ Masters Games

Published: Dec 2015 G-3

Each routine is to be completed without any straight bounces between skills and must

contain a minimum of 4 different somersaults of at least 270° rotation. More difficult skills

may be used to gain a higher difficulty score. The value of each skill will be determined by

its value in the FIG Code of Points.

Each routine will be scored in two parts; execution and difficulty. The execution mark will

be out of 10 points and the difficulty mark will be the sum of the difficulty values of the

completed skills. If the routine contains less than 4 different somersaults of at least 270o,

a penalty of 1.0 marks will be deducted from the routine’s total score for each of the

missing somersaults.

The execution and difficulty marks will be added to make a total score for the routine. The

combined total score of the two routines will determine the athletes placing in the

competition. The winner will be the athlete with the highest aggregate score.

Synchronised Trampoline

A Synchronized Trampoline pair can be comprised of athletes of any age and can consist

of two male athletes, two female athletes, or a male and female athlete.

Synchronized Trampoline pairs will complete one routine comprising 10 skills chosen by

the athletes. The skills can be competed in any order chosen by the athletes but must

meet the requirements of the as appropriate.

Both athletes must start and finish facing in the same direction however they need not

twist in the same direction. Both athletes must perform the same skill at the same time

but if one athlete is more than half a skill ahead of their partner they will be deemed to

have performed different element and scoring of the routine will be stopped.

Scoring of the routines will occur in the same manner as for the Novice - Individual or

Advanced - Individual routines with the addition ofl bonus points outlined at the beginning

of this protocol.

the competitor may repeat either one of the compulsory passes.

I.2 Requirements

The 5 skill requirement is the same as an age group competition where we also look to

follow other rules and regulations set for an age group competition. However, some of the

requirements and regulations in a recreational competition have been relaxed to allow the

younger athletes to adjust to the new competition environment.

Competitors are not required to end the last element in the landing zone/area.

All completed elements in a pass will be judged e.g. if a competitor completes less

than 3 elements, he will be judged on those elements. (as opposed to age group

where if less than 3 completed elements the competitor is marked out of 0)

As there is no voluntary pass, the duty of the difficulty judge is to ensure that the

compulsory passes is performed as set for that level.

Taking intermediate steps will result in deductions and not termination.

Advancement: Advancement to the next level is at the coach’s discretion. However,

once a competitor has advanced they cannot come down to a lower level.

I.5 Competition Cards The competition card must be handed in at the time and place specified by

the organizing committee at least 2 hours prior to the competition starting. All details on the competition card must be completed except for the difficulty. The compulsory pass nominated as a final pass, must be filled in.

I.6 Competition Procedure

I.6.1 Warming Up

Immediately prior to the preliminary round, each gymnast will be allowed

2 pass warm-up on the competition apparatus. There will be one warm-up

pass before the individual finals.

I.6.2 Start Of A Pass

Each gymnast will start on the signal given by the Chair of Judges Panel.

Second attempts will not be allowed. If a competitor is obviously disturbed

in a pass, e.g. faulty equipment, substantial external influence – NOT

spectator noise or applause, then the Chair of Judges Panel may allow

another attempt.

The pass will be considered initiated once the competitor’s hands touch the

mat or the first skill has been executed.

If a competitor runs down the track then stumbles, but does not initiate the

first skill, then they may begin their pass again.

I.6.3 Required Positions During An Element

In all positions, the feet and legs should be kept together (except straddle

skills) and the feet and toes pointed.

Depending on the requirements of the movement, the body position should

be in either in tuck, pike, or straight.

In the tucked position the hands should touch the legs below the knees.

I.6.4 Interruptions Of A Pass

A pass will be considered interrupted if the gymnast:

Is touched by a spotter.

Takes intermediate steps or a substantial stop during a pass.

A fall to the mat during a pass.

Touches any part outside the outer lines of the tumbling track or tumbling

off the side or end of the track with any part of the body.

No credit will be given for the element in which the interruption occurs. (See

exceptions re. Intermediate steps).

The Chair of Judges Panel will decide the maximum mark.

I.6.5 Termination Of A Pass

A completed pass must end in a two-foot landing (with exception level 1 &

2 who may step out of the handstand or cartwheel).

After the last element, the gymnast must stand upright for 3 seconds.

I.6.6 Scoring

Method Of Scoring

The evaluation of execution is done in 10ths of a point.

Judges must write their deductions independently of one another.

When signaled by the Chair of Judges Panel, the marks of the Execution

Judges must be done simultaneously.

The deductions for poor execution are subtracted from the maximum.

For all passes the Judges will add 5.0 points to their score so as to show a

mark out of 10.

Of the 5 Execution Judges, the highest and lowest marks are discarded,

with the 3 remaining marks added together.

Swescore will calculate in the event of a tie in the preliminary round.

Swescore will calculate in the event of a tie in the final round.

J Short Trak Tumbling Programme

Short Trak is an event that allows us to bridge the gap between recreational tumbling to

power tumbling. It allows competitors to compete based on their skill level and the

amount of skills they can perform comfortably in a pass.

J.1 Format

Short Trak tumbling allows hands to feet skills only. All passes may start from or are

encouraged to start from a run-up. The emphasis in this programme is the speed and

rhythm of the total pass, creating the nature of true power tumbling.

The categories are: Junior 2, 3, or 4 skill passes (Men & Women)

Senior 2, 3, or 4 skill passes (Men &Women)

• All competitors will complete the two voluntary passes in the preliminary round.

• One voluntary pass in the finals. Top 8 to the finals.

• The choice is to compete in one category only, either as a junior or a senior, doing

either a 2, 3, or 4 skill pass.

J.2 Passes Junior Short Trak: As an example of what type of skills a junior should include:

Cartwheels; round offs; walk overs; handsprings; flic flacs.

The last skill must land on both feet. No somersaults are

allowed. Difficulty of the total pass is counted.

Senior Short Trak: As an example of what type of skills a senior could include:

flic flacs; whipbacks; non-twisting and twisting somersaults.

The last skill in a pass must always be a somersault landing

both feet together.

The difficulty of the total pass is counted.

Advancement: Advancement to the next level is at the coach’s discretion.

However, once a competitor has advanced they cannot come

down to a lower level.

Special Trophies

Title: Coach of the Year

Trophy: Jean Bird Memorial Trophy

Type: Individual

Open to: All coaches of athletes competing in any Individual trampoline division. The

trophy is also open to joint coaches.

How Title is

determined:

The highest aggregated total score from any four athletes of any gender and

division competing in the individual trampoline competition and who are coached

by the same person(s).

The aggregate score is to exclude any difficulty marks awarded for the set

routine.

For the 2015 Championships, any time of flight marks are also be deducted to

ensure that Age and International Division athletes measured on an equal basis.

The athletes are not to be named in advance but will be automatically chosen as

being the athletes whose results give the highest possible aggregated total

mark. Coach’s with less than four athletes will not be considered.

The winning coach(es) is the coach(es) with the highest aggregated total score

from their four athletes.

History: Donated by Jean Bird of Nelson, this trophy dates back to 1979 and is historically

the most valuable piece of New Zealand trampoline history in existence. Jean

was a senior coach and judge and made Nelson a very strong competing region

up until her retirement in 1991.

Title: Trampoline Sports Personality of the Year

Trophy: Donated by the Henry Family

Type: Individual

Open to: All athletes.

Individuals must be nominated by a club in order to be considered. Nomination

forms are included in the GymSports NZ Trampoline Handbook or available from

the GymSports NZ website.

A club may nominate more than one individual.

How Title is

determined:

The winner of this title is to be an athlete whose actions and attitudes make them

a role model for other athletes to look up to and aspire to emulate. They must

also demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the sport outside of their

immediate club and other than through competitive success.

The winner is selected by the SDC after considering the nominated athlete’s

efforts over the year. Factors such as: endeavour, commitment; sportsmanship;

support and encouragement to other athletes; demeanour on and off the

competition floor; competition success; contribution to the development,

running or public profile of the sport are to be considered. Other criteria may be

included as desired.

Notes: Competitive athletes should not take what goes into a sport for granted and

should be encouraged to get involved with coaching, judging and administration

of the sport as well as providing support and assistance to athletes coming

behind them. Such athletes become the future leaders of the sport and they

should be recognised and encouraged to continue being involved after their

competitive career is over.

Title: Clark Eddington Memorial Trophy for the Most Significant International Achievement

Trophy: Clark Eddington Memorial Trophy

Type: Individual

Open to: All athletes competing in the International Division during the year.

How Title is

determined:

The winner is selected by the Trampoline SDC and will be the athlete achieving

the highest competition results in international competitions since the last

National Championship.

History: Clark Eddington was a National Trampoline and DMT Champion in the early 90’s.

Originally from Whangarei he joined ICON in 1991. Clark represented NZ at the

1992 World Championships in Auckland but died of an asthma attack while

warming up for a trampoline display at a basketball match in Whangarei. He was

raising money to attend the World Age group Championships in Portugal in 1994.
