FROM bOaRd chaiR caROl lindquist:
It is my pleasure to share this snapshot of our artistic and fiscal year 2014-15, a season of progress and excellence for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Your role in making music sound is vital for this storied institution and we thank all of you – dedicated donors, subscribers, patrons, volunteers, and friends – for making this a successful season.
From the powerful notes that opened the season with Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony through Pixar In Concert, the Don Quixote ballet, and the vast array of sacred music performed in churches and ensemble performances in our schools, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic continues to serve the community in an extraordinary way.
Music Director Andrew Constantine is the visionary leader of this magnificent orchestra who allows us to imagine and realize great art: timeless masterpieces, works we never knew we’d love, and projects that stretch our imaginations. We are fortunate to have him at the helm and are delighted that he calls Fort Wayne his musical home.
It is the thoughtful and generous support of 1,200 donors, corporations, and foundations, as well as 6,200 ticket-buying patrons that constitute the backbone and financial security of this organization. For your support, we are exceedingly grateful.
To sustain both the artistic and financial strength of the Philharmonic, this past April the Board of Directors made the bold decision to resolve a long standing accumulated deficit and to invest in revenue generation programs that are already reaping rewards. We enter the 2015-16 season debt free, with a renewed sense of energy and momentum in our service to Greater Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana.
We thank you for your time, energy, and financial contributions. On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is our promise to remain good stewards of your trust and investments in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
Sincerely,
Carol LindquistBoard ChairFort Wayne Philharmonic

Fort Wayne Philharmonic2014/15 seasOn Financial highlights
The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Board of Directors took a bold step in April 2015 to resolve an accumulated deficit and provide resources to rebuild ticket sales and fundraising programs. The institution launches its 2015-16 season debt free, with a balanced budget heading into a new fiscal year, and maintains a healthy endowment that is the envy of most orchestras in its budget class.
As seen below, donations and endowment provided approximately 79% of the organization’s income in 2014-15 with ticket sales and other earned income at approximately 21%.
The following charts illustrate the categories of support the Fort Wayne Philharmonic receives, an indication of donor and patron impact on investment in the institution.

FROM Music diRectOR andReW cOnstantine:
Selecting highlights from a season as glorious as this past one was an invidious task for me as Music Director. To choose just a few gems would be to neglect so many others that had so many worthy aspects to them. However, for a variety of reasons, there are some occasions that will stay with me more than others. Verdi’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 are both gigantic pillars of our repertoire. Conducting both of these masterpieces, and for the first time I have to say, was exhilarating and rewarding. Slipping a lifelong favourite like Tippett’s Concerto for Double String Orchestra into opening night was a little risk that many might avoid. But, I was confident of our audience’s enthusiastic response born of the rapport and trust that I feel has been created in recent years. The same can be said of our own, private novelty, “The Composer: Revealed.” Bringing this format, with the music and life of the great Peter Illych Tchaikovsky, to our main series proved a wonderful evening for creativity and partnership across a number of Fort Wayne’s artistic groups and crossed the near sacred threshold of ‘normal’ concert etiquette.

What SetS US aPart: commUnity enGaGement
Beyond the expected realm of concert performance, the inaugural “Fort Wayne Philharmonic International Conductors’ Workshop” was an unqualified success which brought aspiring young conductors to this city and orchestra to hone their skills. As we move forward I very much hope that we can all see this as an example of how, as an institution, we can take the name of this community far and wide through this and other projects. It has always been my ambition that the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, by virtue of excellence in our industry, will be recognised as ambassadors for this city, its industry, its people and its commitment to culture.
