It is designed to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards. Partici-pants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills. They will learn techniques and build stamina during this program. Participants will be introduced to skills utilized in the Lifeguarding course, basic responsibilities of a lifeguard, and communication and decision making skills. Clas-ses are Saturdays 8a-9a at Wilson Jr. High School Pool. Prerequisites: Front crawl 25 yds, with rotary breathing, breaststroke 25 yds, tread water for one minute. Submerge and swim a distance of 10 ft underwater, back float for 30 second, elementary backstroke or back crawl for 25 yds. Fee: $30.00 Resident/ $36.00 Non Resident

Participants must be at least 15 years of age and pass a skills test given on the first day. This is an American Red Cross certified course. Class time will run 5:30 - 7:30 pm on Friday evenings at the Manitowoc Sr. Center. Pool time 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday at Wilson Jr. High School Pool. Class fees will include all book costs. The course teaches skills needed to become a lifeguard including first aid, CPR and water rescues. Requirements: Ability to swim 300 yards non-stop and tread water. Class size is limited so registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Fee: $165.00 Resident / $175.00 Non Resident
