Abstract

LEADERSHIP NURSING VOL.18 NO.2 2017.6

using therapeutic play. During the nursing period from July 29, 2014 to August 2, 2014, the

author utilized Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns Assessment as an assessment tool, and

used other methods such as interviews, observations, and therapeutic play to collect relevant

data of the patient. The main identified issues needing nursing care included excessively high

body temperature, respiratory clearance function failure, and fear. During the nursing process,

the author discovered an increase of the patient's defense and retreat behaviors, and fear of

unfamiliar environments and unknown situations due to physical discomfort. Therefore, the

author used therapeutic play, stickers that the patient was fond of, and words of encouragement

to develop a trusting relationship with the patient. In addition, the author provided

individualized care to reduce the fear and hospitalization stress of both the patient and family

of the patient, which enabled the patient to receive treatment and also improve the whole family's

ability to maintain the health of the patient. It is hoped that the sharing of this nursing experience
