My nine-plus years in the design, production, and construction administration of exceptional projects are valuable; but that is only the beginning of what I will bring to your fi rm. My relentless work ethic, passion for design excellence, and commitment to the discipline of architecture ensure that I will be a great addition.

To give you my background, upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 2003, I returned to Cincinnati, Ohio (my hometown) and worked with Tilsley & Associates Architects until 2006. I returned to LA on after completing my Master’s of Architecture in the autumn of 2010 at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. Since then I have worked with Griffi n Enright Architects and Hodgetts + Fung Design and Architecture. I have undertaken freelance projects and served as a guest critic at many local schools of architecture.

In this time, I have also had the humble honor to serve as the Vice President, V.P. for Development, and as a Board Member for the non-profi t Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design. Parametric Dress2012

Along with architectural designer Brian Harms and fashion designer Katherine Voorhies, I produced a method of “parametrically” designing clothing which would be fabricated via Computer Aided Manufacturing.

Katherine initiated the project to understand the benefi ts of computation and robust CAM and rapid prototyping to the design of fashion.

Brian’s interest was in tooling - translating intentions through methods to arrive at the product of design.

My interest was in understanding how to conceptualize and fully utilize radical alternatives to current modes of design and production.

Together, we explored how applying the tools and methods typical to contemporary architectural and industrial design to fashion could lead to results that are novel, beautiful, and beyond the capabilities of the current system of production.

Live on Sunset Hodgetts + Fung Design and Architecture2012 - 2013

This fi ve story mixed-use project is on a steeply-sloping site at the heart of the Sunset Strip, with dramatic views down La Cienega Boulevard. The project features 11,000 sf of commercial and restaurant space, 11 two story loft-style residences totaling 17,000 sf, outdoor terraces totaling 9,300 sf, and a digital billboard; all atop 4 stories subterranean parking.

The L1 Commercial is double-height, and there is also a subterranean Jazz Club. To take advantage of the fast-paced and luxurious lifestyle possible at the heart of the Strip, the residences with designed with fl exible-yet-edgy layouts featuring large, well-appointed, private indoor/outdoor entertaining spaces.

A stepped height envelope and incredible views created the opportunity for a terraced south elevation. We ameliorated the high solar exposure with an operable screening system, which became an opportunity to create a presence on the Sunset Strip that is kinetic, yet unifi ed. The screen wall features a “transmediation” of the Byrds’ classic Turn, Turn, Turn into a striking graphic pattern by artist Brad Bartlett.

I managed the project from early on through Design Development and substantially into Construction Documents. I secured Planning approval, made the initial Building Department submission, and prepared drawings for the response to the Building Department’s corrections letter.

Private Residence2006 - 2009

I was an integral member of a team at Kovac Architects performing the executive architecture for a 20,000 square foot estate designed by minimalist John Pawson.

We were entrusted with interpreting and preserving the purity of Pawson’s design intent and due to the fast-track process, we were required to be proactive with the design vision on the construction site.

Master of Architecture Bartlett School of ArchitectureSeptember 2009-September 2010

At the Bartlett I expanded my skills through applying rigorous reasearch metholodogy to an open-ended experimental pro-gram. I sought to move beyond proposing interventions from an abstract and “overhead” view, and instead understand and critique urban space via direct experience.

These explorations were through measured, mapped, and diagrammed to reconstruct and synthesize representations of the quantitative data and qualitative experiences of the city. Through this, I created an alternative design ontology which was then applied through a narrative encapsulating the conceptual ideas I was dealing with as a sequence of architectural features and experiences.
