The growth and the impact of the Women’s Leadership Council have been truly amazing to witness since our inception 3½ years ago!

The original group of 153 Founding Members has been transformed into an even more powerful group of 460 dedicated and visionary WLC members, each one passionate about the mission of the E3 program. Built by WLC members from the ground up, the E3 initiative is designed to Educate, Empower, Elevate local women in our community.

Since its start in 2010, E3 has supported more than 80 women in our community, helping them become financially stable by preparing for and obtaining living wage jobs with benefits. Trae, one of our E3 participants who graduated in 2012, shared her thoughts about the impact the program has made in her life:

“I enrolled in E3 in the fall of 2011 and immediately felt my life change for the better. My self esteem grew, and I found the courage to enroll in an Introduction to Logistics program at the Columbus State Center for Workforce Development. I set my sights on obtaining my Federal Class A driver’s license, which I did in October 2012! In early November, I got a job with US Express Trucking. The program and my mentor encouraged me to look at non-traditional careers for women and helped me finally find a fulfilling job that pays enough to take good care of my family. I couldn’t have accomplished all this without the E3 program.”

Trae’s story illustrates just one of many lives you have transformed through E3. By being a member of WLC, you have a direct hands-on impact in the lives of women who are in need of support to make life better for themselves and their families.

This directory is for you to get to know each other a bit better and also serves as a valuable resource for E3 participants to connect with WLC members. Thank you for being a part of this exciting community of engaged, talented and generous women. You have each contributed to the successes of our participants and to the success of the WLC. “I’ve had many sheroes who have played an important role in my life; inspiring women who have mentored me and helped me grow. Now, I want to be a shero. I want to help create a way to make the greatest impact in women’s lives and the WLC is the way I can do that. It’s one of the most hands-on giving groups I have ever worked with.”

President and CEO of United Way of Central Ohio. Previously served as Columbus City Attorney for six years, and as a judge on the Franklin County Municipal Court for 10 years. Current vice chair of the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Board, and a member of the board of The Family Violence Coalition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Chairs Columbus City Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, co-chairs the board for the Center of Healthy Families. Helped establish the city’s first Truancy Intervention Center. In 1989, she received the YWCA’s Women of Achievement Award. She was the first African American woman in management at the Columbus Southern Power Company and the first African American woman on the Columbus City Council.
