IELI WEEKLY MEMO IELI WEEKLY MEMO  University of North Texas Intensive English Language Instute  Spring II, 2013 Week 1: March 18-24 Circle R Ranch Day - Friday, March 22, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. There will not be IELI classes on Friday, March 22. Instead, all students and teachers will go to Circle R Ranch for the Spring 2 Welcome Party! Buses to the ranch will leave at 10:00 am from the corner of Avenue B and Mulberry Street (outside the GAB). This event is free for students, and you may bring your families with you. Parcipaon in Ranch Day is required. If you do not aend, you will be marked absent. Sign up in your Communicaon class or in Amber’s oce (SYMR 214) by Tuesday, March 19. While we are at the ran ch, there will be space for dancing. We would like to pla y a variety of music for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to share your country’s music with other students, you may submit one song to Amber by Thursday, March 28. Each student may submit only one song. If you do not submit music by Thursday, it will not be played during Ranch Day.  Easter Egg Hunt - Friday, March 29, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Look for the hidden Easter eggs around Sycamore. There will be surprises hidden in each egg, so try to help your friends and classmates nd one, too!  Dallas Mavericks Game - Saturday, March 30, 5:30 pm - 11:30 pm. IELI will go to an NBA basketball game in downtown Dallas to cheer on the Dallas Mavericks when they play the Chicago Bulls! The Dallas Mavericks were the NBA Champions in 2011, so this will be a very excing game! Sign up in the UNT -Internaonal Payment Oce (SYMR 205) by 4:00 pm on Friday, March 29. Tickets cost $5 for IELI students and $15 for family and friends. You must pay when you sign up.  If you have not made your tuion payment yet, or have not signed up for the payment plan, you need to pay your tuion IMMEDIATELY, or you will be pulled from your classes. You can pay online with a credit card, or you can pay with cash or check at Student Accounng, ESSC 105. If you want to sign up for a Payment Plan, please go to Alissa, SYMR 205, to sign up.  All level 6 students should stop by Megumi Leali’s oce (SYMR 288) during Week 1. If you are taking a UNT class, bring a copy of your EIS schedule. Aenon students in Levels 4 -6: Have you applied to UNT? Join the members of Alpha Phi Omega f or a fabulous pizza party! Come make your own personal pizza and make new friends! IELI has a new online calendar that can be found on the IELI website. It will list all the IELI, UNT, and Denton acvies coming up in the next 8 weeks.

Spring II, 2013 Week 1: March 18-24

Circle R Ranch Day-

Friday, March 22, 10:00 am-

4:00 pm. There will not be IELI classes on Friday, March 22. Instead,all students and teachers will go to Circle R Ranch for the Spring 2 Welcome Party! Buses to the ranch will leave at

This is an opportunity for internaonal women to meet

American women, pracce English, and share experiences. It

will take place at a local volunteer’s home. This is open for

women students of every level. It will be a fun experience

for internaonal women and American women to just hang

out and be girls! Feel free to bring your children. Snacks will

be provided. Sorry boys, girls only! 

Transportaon is provided if needed!

Meengs will be every other Wednesday, from

5:30 - 7:00 pm.

See Amber or Kae in SYMR 202 for more

informaon or if you have any quesons.

If you move, you must report your change of address

to the IELI Main Oce (SYMR 204) within 10 days of 

the move. If you are a new student and didn’t know

your permanent address when you lled out your reg-

istraon forms, please go to the IELI Main Oce and ll

out an “Address Maintenance” form with your new address.

The Bilingual Ambassador Program hopes to help provide

culturally competent care to paents from other countries and

cultures. The program can help

with your English skills and

posively impact the Denton

community!

The four primary languages for

which they would need volunteers

would be Spanish, Arabic,

Cantonese, and Mandarin. 

Informaon session: Wednesday,

March 27, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM.Volunteers would need to

complete an applicaon and

screening process, a basic

language-uency test containing

admissions-related terminology,

and aend a training session. 

Volunteers would commit to 2-3 hours each

week for 6 months. These hours are NOT to

conict with your class schedule.

This volunteer opportunity is open to UNT-

Internaonal and IELI Students. If you have any

quesons, come see Amber in SYMR 202.

improve your English! Conversaon Hour

is a me for students in Levels 0-2 to meet

with Americans. There will be games and

snacks. This is a good way to make newfriends, have fun, and pracce your English.

You do not need to sign up.

presents Celebrang Peace: Middle

Eastern Music and Dance. 

When: Saturday, March 23, 7:30 PM—9:30 PM 

Where: Union Lyceum 

The cultural program

will include various

performances including

the Turkish whirling

dervish, Iranian setar

and santour, peace

songs, Persian music,

Byzanne music, Saudi

Arabian dance, the

UNT internaonal band, Palesnian debkeh folklore dance,

Iraqi chobi dance, a tradional are show, images of Israel

and the Middle East and other performances. Wow! That’s a

lot. You won’t want to miss out on this excing show. Best of 

all it is FREE. Go with your friends or family!
