Slide 21
When the TV is plugged in:
AC is applied to the standby circuit in the PSS board to produce STB5V. The STB5V is provided to the A board via pin 22 of connector P6.
The STB5V from pin 22 of connector A6A is applied to the Analog ASIC (IC5000)
The Analog ASIC IC5000 converts the STB5V to STB3.3V. This voltage energizes and prepare the microprocessor (CPU) IC8000 for program execution.
The STB3.3V from the Analog ASIC (IC5000), besides being applied to the CPU, is also applied to the remote control receiver on the K board through pin 5 of connector A1/K10.
The microprocessor (IC8000) outputs the “F_STBY_ON” command for less than a second. This command is applied to the PSS for F15V generation. The F15V is generated for the same duration of the command.
Standby Operation
TC-P42/50S60
Slide 22
Standby Operation
Besides the standby voltages, another set of voltages is output for approximately 8 seconds right
after AC is first applied to the TV.
After 8 seconds, these voltages are no longer present and the power supply goes back to standby
mode.

1. AC from connector P9 flows through the resistor across the relay switch energizing the standby circuit. 2. Note: At this point the relay has not been triggered.3. The standby circuit outputs the STB5V to pin 5 of connector P6. The STB5V is applied to the
Application Specific IC (IC5000).4. IC5000 outputs the STB3.3V used to energized the microprocessor IC8000 on the A board and the
remote control receiver on the K board.5. IC5000 also outputs the reset pulse to IC8000 to prepare the microprocessor for program execution.6. IC8000 outputs the F_STB_ON command (DC1.5V ~ 3.2V) for approximately 8~11 seconds.7. Note: This command is also the first out of 2 command output by IC8000 when the power is turned on.8. F_STB_ON is applied to pin 6 of connector P6 on the P board to be connected to the power micom
(IC502).9. IC502 outputs 2 switching signals to:
1st Turn on the switching circuit to allow the triggering of the relay RL100. AC flows now through the relay’s contacts.
2nd Turn on the switching circuit to allow F15V and S15V to be output to the A board via connectors P6/A6.
10. The S15V is applied to the audio amp. ICs (IC4900 and IC4901).11. The F15V is applied to a DC-DC converter circuit to generate the SUB Voltages used by the A board
for signal processing, the K board for CATS (Contrast Auto Tracking) operation, the bluetooth module, the C boards, and the panel.
12. The sub voltages are also provided to IC8000.13. If all SUB Voltages are OK, IC8000 waits for approximately 8~11 seconds and then it stops outputting
the F_STB_ON command.14. At this the relay is no longer energized and it makes a click sound. The F15, S15, and all the SUB
Voltages are no longer present.

Slide 47
Voltage Distribution (Panel Drive Voltages Vsus)Analysis of a shorted Vsus condition
Vsus is generated by the Power supply and is used by the SC and the SS boards.
A shorted Vsus is usually caused by the SC board or the SS board and very rarely the power supply is damaged when this occurs.
To check if Vsus is shorted, unplug the TV and discharge any possible residual charge from the Vda and Vsus lines. (Use a 500 ohms resistor at least 5W).
Then measure resistance or continuity on pin 1 of either connectors P2, SC2, P11, or SS11. (A resistance reading lower than 1K (1000 ohms) is considered to be abnormal.)
If a short circuit is found, isolate the SC and SS boards to determine which board is defective.
Depending on the model, a short circuit of the Vsus can cause a 3 fast blinks or a normal 7 blinks condition.

Slide 49
Voltage Distribution (Panel Drive Voltages Vda)Analysis of a shorted Vda condition
Vda is generated by the Power supply and is used by the panel.
Vda is routed through the C boards before it is connected to the panel.
On the C boards, several 1 ohm fusible resistors (matching the number of connectors between the C boards and the panel) are used on the Vda line.
A shorted Vda is usually caused by the panel and very rarely by the power supply. Any of the C boards, even though is not likely, can also cause a shorted Vda.
To check if Vda is shorted, unplug the TV and discharge any possible residual charge from the Vda and Vsus lines. (Use a 500 ohms resistor at least 5W).
Then measure resistance or continuity on pin 1 of connector P35. (A resistance reading lower than 1K (1000 ohms) is considered to be abnormal.)
If a short circuit is found on connector P35, check the P board and the C boards. It’s not likely for the 1 ohm resistors on the C boards not to open when the panel is shorted.
Depending on the model, a short circuit of the Vsus can cause a 3 fast blinks or a normal 8 blinks shutdown condition.A shorted Vda caused by the panel will not trigger a 3 nor an 8 blinks shutdown condition because of the 1 ohm fusible resistors used on the C boards. The resistor in line with the defective IC on the panel causing the short circuit opens allowing the TV to stay on.The symptom expected is a 3” black bar from top to bottom on the area of the screen controlled by the panel drive IC on the panel causing the short circuit.

Analysis of a shorted Vda condition
The following is an example of a 50” Plasma TV, which normally has a total of 15 connectors between the C boards and the panel. If one of the ICs on the flex cable (FPC) is shorted, the respective resistor on the C board opens and a 3” approx. black bar appears on the area of the screen controlled by the defective IC.
If R181 is opened, it’s likely for the IC on CB4 to be shorted.
The result is a black bar on the area indicated on the picture above.

Voltage Distribution (Panel Drive Voltages P15V)Analysis of a shorted P15V condition
P15V is generated by the Power supply and is used by the A board, the SC board, and the SS board.
P15 is routed through the A boards before it is connected to the SC and SS boards.
A shorted P15V is usually caused by the SC board or the SS board and very rarely by the A board.
To check if P15V is shorted, unplug the TV and discharge any possible residual charge from the Vda and Vsus lines. (Use a 500 ohms resistor at least 5W).
Then measure resistance or continuity on pin 12 of connector P6. (A resistance reading lower than 1K (1000 ohms) is considered to be abnormal.)
If a short circuit is found on connector P6, check the SC board, the SS board, the A board, and the P board (Even though is not likely for the power supply to cause this failure).
Depending on the model, a short circuit of the P15V can cause a 3 fast blinks, a 2 blinks or an 8 blinks shutdown condition.

Important InformationSOS Detect Circuit Explanation
Slide 58
When an abnormality occurs in the unit, the “SOS Detect” circuit is triggered and the TV shuts down. The power LED on the front panel will flash a pattern indicating the circuit that has failed.
Cautions:If the power LED continues to blink even after the TV is unplugged, press and hold the power switch on the TV for a few seconds until the LED turns off.
Some steps require removal of connectors and sometimes PC boards removal. Do not allow the TV to run for more than 30 seconds while connectors or boards are disconnected.
NOTE: When taking voltage reading, place your meter’s probe on the test point or pin indicated before connecting the TV to the AC line. The voltage you intent to measure may only appear for a brief moment.
Warning: The Vsus line has large capacitors that hold the charge for some time even after the TV has been turned off and unplugged. When disconnecting P2/SC2 or P11/SS11, bleed the remaining charge of the Vsus before reconnecting the cable.
Use a 500 ohms/ 5W (At least) resistor to discharge the Vsus line before reconnecting P2/SC2 or P11/SS11.

Protection circuits are incorporated in the unit to prevent the failure of a single circuit or component from creating catastrophic damage. A shutdown condition occurs when there is an over voltage, a short or a drop in any of the voltage lines. The PARAGON Processor (IC8000) detect when a shutdown condition has been triggered. When an abnormality has occurred, the unit’s protection circuit operates and the TV is reset to the standby mode. At this time, the defective block can be identified by the number of blinks of the POWER LED on the front of the unit. The number of times that the POWER LED blinks indicates the areas where a problem is suspected.

This will help to restore the customer’s settings when the A board is replaced for a non-shutdown issue. This also allows for the hotel data on a TV to be copied to several TVs.
1. -A start-up .pwd file has to be created on an USB Drive so the TV data can be saved on the USB Drive. (Do this on a PC or Laptop).
a) – Create a file named “board_replace” if transferring the data from a TV which A board is being replaced.
b) – Create a file named “hotel” to copy the hotel data.2. -Originally, the file is created as “.txt” and then converted to “.pwd”. (Different methods can be used
to create .txt files and convert them to .pwd).3. - The USB Drive has to then be connected to the TV.4. - A predetermined password has to be entered, depending on the type of data that will be copied on
the USB Drive:• Enter 2770 for A board replacement.• Enter 4850 for Hotel data.
5. After the data from the TV is copied to the USB Drive, a new folder is created on the USB Drive:• Board_replace• Hotel.
6. The data from the USB Drive can now be copied to a TV of the same model.

SS board doesn't cause horizontal lines problems. All the electrodes on SS board are common.
A horizontal line can be caused by: A defective scan drive IC , open connection to the panel or damaged electrode within the panel.
When this cable (FFC) is damaged, replace the panel. The FFC is bonded to the panel directly.
