One of the few things just about everyone agrees on? Bikes are a good thing. Judging by the number of folks saddling up these days, bikes are also a growing thing. From the novice to the super-fit gram-counter, from the two-wheel fashionista to the committed commuter, from the Sunday rider to the white-knuckle thrill-seeker, the numbers are surging. So are the miles of bike paths, bike parks and mountain bike trails. After all, bikes are better for the environment, often faster in the city than a polluting engine, and a whole lot healthier.

In short, bikes are on a roll — and so is Opus. We founded Opus 13 years ago in the cycle-friendly city of Montreal. With the wind at our backs, we’ve introduced one technical and stylistic innovation after another, and launched many exciting new models. Best of all, we’ve shared Montrealers’ passion for the beautifully designed, cunningly engineered and superbly crafted two-wheeled wonders known as Opus bikes.

If you’re new to Opus, the first thing to learn is that we’re always working to perfect our bikes. We’re forever tweaking, revising and reengineering. Forever ratcheting up performance, comfort and style. To be frank, we’re a little obsessive about our work. (Just ask our spouses. On second thought...) So we’re quite proud of our 2013 catalog. It captures everything that’s distinctive about Opus bikes: Our fierce dedication to quality and performance. And our firm belief that we build and spec’ the best bikes on the planet.

So what’s new for 2013? In the interests of high-end performance and comfort, we’ve given our all-carbon frames a big makeover. Mountain bike enthusiasts will thrill to our expanded line of 29ers and well-matched componentry. And our über-cool Urbanista family gets the Porto and Lisboa, while Corso and Trajetto join their urban-sport cousins. As for younger riders, just try to tear them away from our new Thunder. This is the real-deal: A high-performance mountain bike for the budding mountaineer. And, if you’re looking for new styles (don’t forget, we’re from Montreal), we respectfully suggest you check out this year’s exciting new colors and graphics.

a furthEr rEfinEmEnt

Introducing the all-new, all-carbon monocoque competition frame from Opus. Designed for the most ambitious no-compromise competitor and cycling enthusiast. What’s different from last year’s top-of-the-line frame? We upped the ratio of our High Modulus M50J and T-700 carbon fiber to add rigidity, reduce weight and increase comfort. We also reduced the diameter of seat stays to soak up shocks and changed the bottom bracket shell to PF30. Last we retained the 1.5” tapered head tube for greater lateral stiffness, while still keeping the grams off.

Overall, you’ll find our Competition series has the power transfer elite cyclists demand while still retaining the comfort and compliance distance riders cherish.

Our new all-carbon Vivace, Amadeus, Crescendo and Allegro bikes are designed for a superb riding experience, usually reserved for the racing pros.

Time trials are merciless. The tiniest incremental differences in equipment get magnified on the clock. That’s why we developed the Opus One. Note the rider positioning and low profile front end for optimal aerodynamics. The airfoil tubes conform to the new UCI standard and the broad bottom bracket and narrow head tube will help slice through the air. Finally, we’ve married the strength of T-700 carbon fibers to the High Modulus M46J fiber, producing a frame stingier with energy loss, so every stroke counts for more.

Available in frameset with fork, headset and seat clamp for track and time trial. Designed to annihilate the clock.

Based on our proven competition platform, these lighter and sleeker specimens transmit more energy than ever. With their new tapered 1.25” head tube and all-carbon fork, they’re also more supple and responsive.

So whether you’re training for a granfondo or just keeping fit, you’ll like the balance of performance, comfort and value — especially on longer rides. Our carbon fiber selection and layout smooth out the roughest roads. We’ve lowered the top tube to accommodate a more forgiving seat post, while our new chainstay design dampens vibrations. And, because all men — and all women — aren’t created equal, we offer each bike in seven sizes for men and five sizes for women. That way, your bike fits your needs and your physique.

Every detail speaks to the care we lavish on their design and construction. Such as the new 6061 series aluminum frame with hydroformed tubes. They’re dynamically sized to deliver strength and flexibility where they’re needed most. Or check out the new PF30 bottom bracket. Or the longer chain stays to absorb shocks. Or the 1.5” tapered fork for front-end rigidity and turn-on-a-dime handling. And, if componentry turns your crank, it’s all best-in-class. One advantage of these hyper-responsive all-aluminum bikes? They’re bred from the same stock as our high-end thoroughbreds. Same approach to frame design. Same approach to spec’ing and detail. So Othello, Fidelio and Cantate deliver superior road performance in the city…or between cities.

Their precise steering and road feel begins with triple-butted Meta 20 U571 tubes, which feature optimized T and oval profiles. Comfort is equally important, for short or long haul riding. That’s why we redesigned the fork, chain stays and seat stays. Working in concert, they smooth out road imperfections to deliver that near-perfect, fully controlled ride everyone will enjoy.

These are touring bikes par excellence (French for most excellent). We designed them from the road up for dependable all day and all-the-way performance. Thanks to their 4130 chromoly triple-butted steel frame and chromoly forks, the Opus Legato and Largo are sturdy and nimble. And, with Mavic rims and Vittoria tires, you get an extra measure of control, comfort and reliability over any road surface.

The Largo is equipped with the 27-speed Shimano Sora and a new rear rack. The Legato comes with an FSA triple crankset, the 30-speed Shimano Tiagra drivetrain and a set of fenders and a rear rack. Either way, you’ll flatten hills and enjoy the road in total comfort, whether you’re going cross-town or across the country.

the Opus stakh series is built on the same suspension technology as our Prime series. With our full floating shock virtual pivot point design, you can expect optimal efficiency. More of your power is transmitted with every stroke, over just about any type of terrain. We used heat-treated Xtrolite tubing to keep the grams down. then we tweaked the geometry to bring the rear wheel travel up to 130mm and 140mm up front. so how does that stack up? tireless performance on all-day epics and endurance riding!

these are scary-good entry level bikes. Based on our double-butted lightweight 6061 aluminum frame, XC hardtails showcase integrated headsets and our typically nit-picky approach to spec’ing componentry. You may have noticed how kids and parents look for different things on a bike. Kids want cool components and awesome graphics. Parents…not so much. They want the boring stuff. Such as safety and durability.

Opus comes through for both. We’re parents, too, so safety is hard-wired into every design decision we make. That’s why you’ll find hand brakes on every Opus model — even on our run bikes. We also understand the benefits that come with a light bike. Which is why we build all Opus kids bikes with high quality aluminum frames. They’re easier to start and stop — so they’re also more fun to ride!

We make bikes for kids the same way we approach their bigger cousins. Every frame is designed for a specific rider. And every bike is spec’d to deliver optimal performance: Stable and predictable for safety. Nimble and quick for the budding racer. And tons of fun for every kid. At Opus, we understand kids. We know bikes. We actually get it.

A is for Aluminum: Most other bike makers use steel frames and forks for their kids’ models. We like aluminum. Why? A lighter bike is easier for a kid to handle. It rides better, starts faster and, most important, also stops faster. Any questions?

b is for Brakes: Remember coaster brakes? When you got older, you learned that hand brakes have better stopping power. So why make today’s kids wait? After all, the sooner they get used to hand brakes, the more years of safe riding they’ll have. Even our run bikes have them!

C is for Control: A lighter bike with powerful brakes is easier to control and therefore safer to ride. Our kids’ bikes even have a specially designed headset that resists fork spin. This means even better control and no jackknifing.

Opus Bicycles warranties each new Opus aluminum bicycle frame against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original owner with the exception for dual suspension MTB frames which is limited to 5 years. Opus Bicycles warranties each new Opus carbon bicycle frame or carbon fork for five years against defects in materials and workmanship.

Opus Bicycles also warranties all original parts against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Paint and decals are warrantied for one year.

This warranty is expressly limited to the repair or replacement of the defective frame, fork or part, at Opus’ discretion, and is the sole remedy provided for by the warranty or any implied warranty. The replacement or return policies are subject from time to time to modifications detailed on our website: www.opusbike.com.

All Opus warranties apply to the original owner from the date of purchase and are not transferable. Claims under this warranty must be made through an authorized Opus dealer. Proof of purchase is required. A warranty registration card must have been completed and received by Opus Bicycles within ten days of the purchase date for a warranty claim to be processed.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, improper assembly or follow-up maintenance, or installation of parts or accessories not originally intended or compatible with the bicycle as sold or not made or sold by Opus Bicycles. The warranty does not apply to damage or failure due to accidents, misuse, abuse, neglect or any commercial or competitive use. Modification of the frame or components shall void this warranty.

Opus Bicycles shall not be responsible or otherwise held liable for any direct, incidental or consequential damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply. Labour charges for parts changeovers are not covered by the warranty. This warranty gives the consumer specific legal rights, and those rights may vary from place to place. This warranty does not affect the statutory rights of the consumer. The English version of the warranty shall prevail.
