Brothers & Sisters in Christ, October 1st begins the new fiscal year for our federal government. It’s hoped that Congress will pass all the appropriation bills by that date. Otherwise, there’s no money to operate in the new fiscal year. If all the various bills haven’t been passed, a continuing resolution is usually passed by Congress to keep essential portions of the federal government operating while other workers are sent home or told not to come to work. One things that I noticed in my many years in the military was that in the last 60 days before October 1st money usually showed up that needed to be spent. Every last cent needed to be spent or “we won’t get as much next year because the higher ups will think we padded the budget for this year”. There was no “old money” from the last fiscal year budget that was carried over into the new fiscal year. What was really remarkable was the fevered pitch that I saw people work at in offices all over the Army to come up with ideas, and then put them into requests, for that “extra” money. But as soon as October 1st came, everything went back to “normal”. As I was reflecting on that October 1st process again, I was reminded of how we in Jesus Christ’s church often times operate. There are times when major events in the world and devastating events in nature happen -‐-‐ sometimes at the same time. [A terrorist attack, a major earthquake.] Many people’s hearts faint. They are at their wits end. Consequently, as if on queue, the disciples of Jesus Christ say a few prayers for those affected and send off a few dollars to help. We start talking in earnest again about Jesus and how those events point towards His 2nd coming. Our concern rises once more for all those people who don’t confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. So we ponder and we wonder: how can we help do our part to get the message of salvation to our neighbors, to our friends, to our relatives, and to the millions and billions of lost souls living in our world today? Of course, we even remind ourselves that we too must be prepared for the Last Day by continuing to believe in Jesus Christ as our Redeemer. But when nature settles down, when the events in the world cool off, have you ever noticed how everything usually goes back to “normal” for most of Jesus Christ’s disciples? The urgency for us to do good to all people and “to make disciples of all nations” again slides to the back burner, and is put on a very low simmer. But the Lord thinks differently! God’s Words tells us: “Behold, now is the day of salvation” [2 Corinthians 6:2]. Therefore, the Lord continues to send you and me opportunities daily to share the good news of Jesus Christ’s work and love for all people, and to do good to our fellow human beings. May it always be our prayer to the Holy Spirit that we would be faithful to our Savior Jesus and be ready to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who‘s lives intersect with our life. May Jesus continue to use each of us with our individual skills and abilities, and all of us together, to share in word and deed our faith in Jesus Christ that is in our hearts!
May the love of the Lord Jesus always be in your hearts! Richard E. Flath

Voters Meeting – September 8th, 2013 Our Voter’s meeting on September 8th was a productive one. We approved the new sign proposal and the replacement of the old sidewalk out front. It was decided to table the portico and dishwasher projects in favor of increasing the amount of our mortgage pay down resulting from our sewer easement income. We will reserve funds to replace the fellowship window covers. In the end we covered key projects and still reduced our mortgage balance by $25,000. Copies of the complete meeting minutes are available to members from our Secretary, Kim Reinig.
50th Anniversary Celebration
As we move into our fall activities, with daylight getting shorter, two main 50th Anniversary Celebration events are before us, 1) our Oktoberfest Community Celebration on Saturday, September 28th and 2) the visit of our NW District President, Rev. Paul Linnenann on Sunday, October 6th. On that Sunday we hope for a good attendance increase when Rev. Linnemann is bringing to us God’s Word. We also hope for an increased Bible Study turnout at 9:00 am where we have the opportunity to ask him questions about church life and church growth. This October Newsletter includes a letter from Pastor Jerrold Collins who served us from 1998 to 2001. Some of us will remember Pastor Collins as a man of prayer. As mentioned here earlier, several former pastors of Saint Timothy have sent us letters of greetings which we published one by one in our monthly newsletters. One more is to come. Our Oktoberfest Community Celebration with the Bavarian Village Band is now drawing near. We invited our circuit congregations, primarily Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and St. James Lutheran Church to come and join us. Oktoberfests are being celebrated in many places at this time of the year and, sad to say, in the secular setting it sometimes becomes a glorification of alcohol. We at St. Timothy want to come together to fellowship, to enjoy the blessings of our Lord, how abundantly He has given to us and to share in our privilege to bless others. The tradition of Oktoberfest is over 200 years old. Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, an independent country then, was married to Princess Therese on October 17, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. This is how the Oktoberfest tradition started. 2 CHRONICLES 7:14 GROUP
The 2 Chronicles 7:14 Prayer Group meets each Sunday at 8:24 am. We have a dedicated group of 4 or 5 people and wish to include as many of you
as possible. We meet to pray for the up-‐coming service,
the Pastor and his message, others who will be serving, the Sunday School and teachers, LC-‐MS, all Christian churches, membership needs, or country and its government, the military, and whatever God lays on our hearts.
If you’re wondering about our name, go to your Bible and read the passage of 2 Chronicles 7:14, then come a little earlier and join us in lifting our prayers to the Lord. Or let us know your prayer requests so that we may present them to the Lord for you. If you’re not comfortable praying in a group, join us while we pray and add your thought to strengthen our prayers before God. We’ll see you in the “Blue Room” – in prayer.

ROAD PROJECT UPDATE - Mel Suelzle Old Sidewalk - Replacement of our old sidewalk was approved. Thanks to a break in the contractors schedule and favorable weather, this project was finished on September 21st. We appreciate all of Fred Starck’s effort in getting this project underway. New Sign - The voters approved funding our new sign. Due to ongoing construction in the area, lead times of the sign manufacturers, it was decided to put off the purchase and installation until next Spring in time for the Lenten programs. In the meantime, we will make the final decision on the vendor and obtain County approval for the design and location. Meeting room refurbishment - On August 24th, about a dozen AA members pitched in and painted the “Blue Room”. It is now a refreshing “Pistachio Mint”, a much appreciated change. Thanks a bunch to the AA members who “gave back” to the church.
