    2013 SEATTLE MARINERS MINOR LEAGUE REVIEW

    AFFILIATES UPDATE: The Mariners 9 minor league affiliates wrapped up the 2013 seasoncombining for a 461-433 (.516) record. The organization finished 3rd among all Major League farmsystems in wins (461), while finishing 10th in winning percentage (.516).

    OPERATION PLAYOFFS: Four of the Mariners 9 affiliates advanced to the playoffs in 2013. Pulaski(Appalachian League) and VSL Mariners (Venezuelan League) won their league titles. Clinton(Midwest League) and Everett (Northwest League) advanced to the playoffs, but lost in the first round.

    YOUTH MOVEMENT: The Mariners had 11 minor league players make their Major League debut thisseason, including 9 homegrown players (OF Abr aham Almonte, C Brandon Bantz, INF NickFranklin , LHP Bobby LaFromboise, RHP Brandon Maurer, INF Brad Miller, RHP YoervisMedina, LHP James Paxton, C Jesus Sucre andRHP Taijuan Walker). The 11 debuts were tiedfor 4th-most in club history, and 2nd-most by an American League club in 2013 (HOU 15).

    MARINERS MILB AWARDS: InfielderChris Taylor(High Desert/Jackson) was named Player of theYear, while right-handerTaijuan Walker (Jackson/Tacoma/Seattle) was named the Starting Pitcherof the Year. Right-handed pitcherCarson Smith (Jackson) was named Relief Pitcher of the Year andoutfielderAbr aham Almonte (Jackson/Tacoma/Seattle) received the Heart and Soul Award for hisexemplary play and leadership.

    MARINERS MILB PLAYER OF THE YEAR: INF Chris Taylor, 23, hit .314 (165x525) with 100 runsscored, 28 doubles, 11 triples, 8 home runs, 60 RBI, 84 walks and 38 stolen bases in 134 gamescombined between Jackson and High Desert. He led all Mariners farmhands with 108 runs scored,while ranking 3rd amongst all minor league players. He also led all Mariners minor leaguers in hits

    (T8th-most in the minor leagues), while ranking 2nd with 38 stolen bases. Taylor was one of threeminor league players to hit over .300 with at least 100 runs scored, 45 extra-base hits, 30 stolenbases and an on-base percentage of at least .400, joining Byron Buxton/MIN-Cedar Rapids/Ft.Meyers (.334, 109 R, 49 EBH, 55 SB, .424 OBP) and George Springer/HOU-CorpusChristi/Oklahoma City (.303, 106 R, 68 EBH, 45 SB, .411 OBP). Taylor began the season with HighDesert and reached base safely in 29 straight games, which was the 8th-longest in the CaliforniaLeague this season. He was promoted to Double-A Jackson on June 29 and reached base safely viaa hit or walk in 59 of 67 games. Taylor, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, attended University ofVirginia from 2010-12 and was the Mariners 5th round selection in the 2012 MLB First-Year PlayerDraft.

    MARINERS MILB STARTING PITCHER OF THE YEAR: RH Taijuan Walker, 21, split the seasonbetween AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma, going a combined to go 9-10 with a 2.93 ERA (46 ER, 141.1IP) and averaged 10.19 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (160 strikeouts) over 25 starts. He waspromoted to Tacoma from Jackson and made his Triple-A debut on June 25 vs. Fresno at CheneyStadium. Walker recorded the win vs. the Grizzlies, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4 in 6.0innings in his Triple-A debut. Overall went 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA (23 ER, 57.1 IP) in 11 starts withTacoma prior to being selected by Seattle on Aug. 30. He recorded a win in his Major League debuton Aug. 30 at Houston and went 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 3 starts with the Mariners. Walker pitched inthe All-Star Futures Game and was selected as a Southern League All-Star this season. In four minorleague seasons he has combined to go 23-26 with a 3.49 ERA and recorded 400 strikeouts (9.69K/9.0 IP). He was originally selected by Seattle in the supplemental first round (43rd overall) in the2010 June Amateur Draft.

    MARINERS MILB RELIEF PITCHER OF THE YEAR: RH Carson Smith, 23, went 1-3 with 15 savesand a 1.80 ERA (10 ER, 50.0 IP) in 44 relief appearances with the Generals. After allowing 5 runsover his first 6 appearances to start the season, Smith allowed only 5 earned runs over his last 38games. During this stretch he went 1-1 with 12 saves and a 1.01 ERA (5 ER, 44.2 IP). He alsoallowed only 1 earned run over his final 28.2 innings (22 G/0.35 ERA), including tossing a season-high 16.2 scoreless innings to close out the season, July 23-Sept. 2. Smith limited opponents to a.183 average (33x180), while walking 17 and striking out 71. He struck out at least one batter in 39 of

    44 games, including 21 multi-strikeout performances. He was the Mariners 8th round selection in the2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas State University. Smith is 6-4 with a 2.41 ERA (30 ER,112.0 IP), while striking out 148 in 93 relief appearances in his two-year minor league career.

    MARINERS MILB HEART AND SOUL AWARD: OF Abr aham Almonte, 24, was called up by theMariners on August 30 and made his Major League debut that night vs. the Houston Astros. Hereached base safely in 18 of 19 career games with an at-bat, overall batting .264 (19x72) with 10 runsscored, 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI in 25 games. Almonte combined to bat .300 (132x440)with 23 doubles, 6 triples, 15 home runs, 68 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 123 games with AA Jacksonand AAA Tacoma. In 94 games with the Rainiers, Almonte hit .314 (106x338) with 17 doubles, 5triples, 11 home runs, 50 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He ranked 4th in the PCL in on-base percentage(.403), 10th in slugging percentage (.491) and 15th in stolen bases (20) following his Triple-A debuton May 13. Almonte was acquired by Seattle from New York (AL) on Feb. 13, 2013 in exchange forRHP Shawn Kelley. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was originally signed by theYankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2005.

    DRAFT RECAP: Seattle has signed 32 of the 40 players they selected in the 2013 MLB First-YearPlayer Draft. Seattle selected third baseman D.J. Peterson from the University of New Mexico withtheir first round pick (12th overall). The Mariners selected 16 pitchers, including 8 left-handers, 4catchers, 14 infielders (3 1B, 4 3B, 7 SS), and 6 outfielders. Seattle selected 27 college players and 12high school players (1 no school). Of the 24 position players selected, 11 were left-handed hitters.

    APPAL ACHIAN LEAGUE ALL-STAR TEAM: Shortstop Tyler Smith was named Appy League Playerof the Year, while teammate RHP Edwin Diaz was named the Pitcher of the Year. OF Ian MillerandrelieverEmilio Pagan were also named to the Appalachian League All-Star team. The Mariners 4selections to the All-Star team were the most from any team.

    APPY LEAGUE ERA TITLE: RHP Edwin Diaz went 5-2 with a 1.43 ERA (5 ER, 69.0 IP) in 13 startsthis season with Pulaski. His 1.43 ERA was the lowest in the Appalachian League this season. He alsoled all Mariners farmhands in ERA (min. 10 GS). Diaz allowed 3 earned runs or less in each of his 13starts, including 10 starts allowing 1 earned run or less.

    DONT RUN ON HICKS: C John Hicks threw out 49.3 percent (35 CS, 36 SB) of attempted base-stealers, which led the Southern League among qualifying catchers. In his first 3 professional seasonswith the Mariners, Hicks has thrown out 50.5 percent (111 CS, 109 SB) of attempted base-stealers,along with a .993 fielding percentage (13 E, 1844 TC).

    YEAR OF THE CYLCE: INF Carlos Triunfel and OFAbr aham Almonte are among 15 minor leagueplayers to hit for the cycle in 2013. Triunfel completed Tacomas first cycle since Raul Ibaezaccomplished the feat on Aug. 19, 1997 vs. Albuquerque. He also became the first player in the PacificCoast League to hit for cycle since Nashvilles Caleb Gindl on July 10, 2011, also against Albuquerque.Triunfel achieved the act in his first 4 at-bats of the game. He tripled with one out in the first inning, ledoff the bottom of the third with a double, then homered in the fourth. He completed the cycle in the fifthinning after lining a single down the right field line. Almonte (4x5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI) completedthe cycle on April 27 at Chattanooga. It was the first cycle in Jackson franchise history, dating back to1998, when the Generals were known as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Almonte hit a solo homer in inthe third inning, a bases-loaded triple in the 4th inning, and singled in the 5th and got his 5th RBI of theevening. After being called out on strikes in the 6th inning, Almonted lined a 2-2 pitch to right field for adouble to complete the cycle.

    IT IS ALL ABOUT CONTROL: RHP Dylan Unsworth walked only 2 batters in 72.0 innings combinedbetween Clinton and AZL Mariners (rehab assignment), including a string of 62.0 consecutive inningswithout allowing a walk (4/14-8/29). Amongst all minor league pitchers with at least 50.0 innings,Unsworth finished 2nd during the 2013 season allowing only 2 walks. In his first 4 professionalseasons, Unsworth has walked only 32 batters in 268.2 innings. Since 2010 his 32 walks are thefewest in the minor leagues (min. 250 IP).

    HALF DOZEN: OutfieldersAbr aham Alm onte, Carlos Peguero and Nate Melendres were each oneof 7 minor league players to record 6 hits in a game this season. Almonte (6x6, 4 R, 2 RBI, BB)recorded 6 singles on May 29 at Colorado Springs and became the first Rainiers player to collect 6 hitsin a single game since Jerry Owens on August 25, 2009 at Fresno. Almonte is the first PCL player torecord 6 hits in a game since Bryan Anderson went 6-for-6 against Tucson on May 24, 2012. Pegureo

    (6x7, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) recorded a career-high 6 hits on July 26 at Reno and Melendres (6x8, 5 R,2B, 2 RBI) went 6-for-8 with 5 runs, 2 doubles and 2 RBI on Aug. 9 vs. Lancaster with High Desert.

    STRIKEOUT MASTERS: RHP Taijuan Walkerand LHP James Paxton ranked 1st and 2nd amongstall Mariners farmhands in strikeouts in 2013. Walkerstruck out 160 batters in 141.1 innings combinedbetween Jackson and Tacoma and finished T7th in the minor league this season. He is the Marinersfarmhand to strikeout at least 160 batters in a single season since RHP Francisco Cruceta (185) andLHP Justin Thomas (162) in 2006. Paxton struck out 131 batters in 145.2 innings with Tacoma andfinished T3rd in the PCL in strikeouts. He also ranked 5th amongest starters in the PCL with an 8.04K/9.0 innings. Since 2011 Walker (391) and Paxton (372) rank 1st and 2nd amongst Mariners minorleague pitchers in strikeotus, while they are each tied for the 13th-highest strikeouts per 9.0 innings(9.65) amongst all minor league pitchers (min. 300 IP).

    BOMBS AWAY: 1B Steven Proscia (3x3, 3 R, 3 HR, 3 RBI) hit a home run in each of his 3 plate appearances on August 26 vs. Chattanooga(w/Jackson). He was one of 27 minor league players to hit at least 3 home runs in game in 2013 and the only Mariners farmhand to accomplishthis feat. It marked Proscias 8th career multi-home run game in his career and 2nd this season (last: 2, 6/23 vs. Mobile w/Jackson). It also washis 3rd career 3-home run game (also: 4/19/12 vs. Inland Empire and 7/14/12 vs. Stockton w/High Desert).

    NO HITTER: RHP Victor Sanchez (9.0,0,0,0,0,8) tossed a 9.0-inning no-hitter in his 27th professional start as Clinton defeated Lansing 1-0 onJuly 17. In the dominant performance against Lansing, Sanchez did not walk a batter and struck out a season-high 8. He hit a batter in the firsinning then retired 20 straight before a pair of errors allowed 2 baserunners in the 8th. In 77 years of baseball in Clinton, it marked the 22ndtime a pitcher has tossed a no-hitter, but only 7th no-hitter with at least 9.0 innings. Sanchez is the youngest LumberKing to accomplish such afeat. The last Mariners farmhand to toss a 9.0-inning no-hitter was LHP Jordan Shipers (9.0,0,0,0,2,2,WP) on July 2012 vs. West Michigan(w/Clinton).

    LETS GO STREAKING: High Deserts Patrick Kivlehan and Ji-Man Choi and Tacomas Brad Miller each were among 22 minor leagueplayers in 2013 to record a hitting streak of at least 20 games. Kivlehan led all Mariners farmhands, and ranked T4th in the minor leagues, afteputting together a 25-game hitting streak July 25-August 22. Kivlehan hit .437 (45x103) with 25 runs, 10 doubles, 7 home runs, 35 RBI and 10walks during the streak. Miller recorded a 22-game hitting streak from May 29-June 27 (still active when he was called up to the Majors), tyinghim for the 11th-longest streak of the season. Miller hit .385 (35x91) with 23 runs scored, 12 extra-base hits and 27 RBI during the streak. Choiwho hit .422 (35x83) during his 21-game hit streak from April 27-May 22, tied for the 14th-longest hitting streak in the minors this season.

    RBI KING: 3B Patrick Kivlehan hit .357 (40x112) with 25 runs scored, 8 doubles, 7 home runs, 38 RBI, 10 walks and 1 stolen base in 27games in the month of August with High Desert. His 38 RBI during August led all minor league players, while also ranking as the most in anysingle month in the minors in 2013. Kivlehan recorded 11 RBI in a 2-game span, including a career-high 6 RBI on Aug. 9 vs. Lancaster (5x7, 4R, 2B, HR, 6 RBI). He was one of only 6 Mariners minor league players to record 6 RBI in a game this season, joining OF Eric Thames (5/29 aCOL, 4x7, R, 2B, 6 RBI), SS Brad Miller(5/29 at COL, 3x7, 3 R, HR, 6 RBI), DH Carlos Peguero (6/29 at COL, 2x4, R, 2B, 3B, 6 RBI), 1BKristian Brito (7/9 at PRI, 3x5, R, 2B, HR, 6 RBI) and 1B Rich Poythress (7/20 at FRE, 3x5, 2 R, 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI).

    MULTI-HIT STREAK: INF Ketel Marte recorded 41 multi-hit games in 177 games combined between A Clinton and A High Desert, includingrecording 9 consecutive multi-hit games from July 30-August 7 with the LumberKings. During this 9-game streak he hit .634 (26x41) with 9 runs

    scored, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 7 RBI, 4 walks and 3 stolen bases. Since 2005, Marte is 1 of 10 minor league players to record at least 9consecutive games with at least 2 hits, including having the 2nd-longest streak in 2013 (Corey Dickerson, SAC: 10, 6/8-17/13). He is also 1 of 3Mariners minor league players to recorded a streak of at least 8 straight multi-hit games since 2005, joining Tyson Gillies with High Desert (97/19-27/09) and Kevin Rivers with Everett (8: 6/28-7/5/08).

    TOPPS NORTHWEST LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE MONTH FOR JULY: RHP Lars Huijerwas named TOPPS Northwest League Player othe Month for July. Huijer (19) of Hoofddorp, Netherlands, went 5-1 with a 0.82 ERA for the Everett AquaSox over 6 games, 5 starts in July. Hetossed 33.0 innings and led the Northwest League in wins, ERA, WHIP (0.70) and average against (.125). Huijer ended July with a 23.0-inningscoreless streak, allowing just 1 hit in each of his last 2 starts, which lasted 7.0 and 8.0 innings, respectively. The Seattle Mariners signed himas a non-drafted free agent in June 2011.

    THE FUTURE IS NOW: The U.S. beat the World 4-2 in 2013 All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York. RH Taijuan Walker tossed ascoreless 2nd inning, allowing no hits and 1 walk for Team USA. 1B Ji-Man Choi went 0-for-2 for the World Squad. Walker and shortstop BradMillerwere each selected to play for the U.S. squad, but Miller was unable to participate after being promoted to the Major League roster. INFJi-Man Choi was added to the World team as a replacement for Rangers catcher Jorge Alfaro. Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach HowardJohnson was part of the U.S. coaching staff. The Mariners have had 30 selections to the Futures Game since its first beginning in 1999.

    ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE: The Arizona Fall League began its 21st season on Tuesday, October 8. Each AFL team is comprised of 5 majorleague organizations working cooperatively. Each organization is required to assign 6 of their most promising Major League prospects to theleague. The roster included right-handed pitchers Dominic Leone, Brandon Maurerand Carson Smith, left-handed pitchers Kyle Hunterinfielders Patrick Kivlehan and Chris Taylorand outfielderStefen Romero. Smith and Romero (taxi-squad) were also members of the PeoriaJavelinas in 2012. Jim Pankovits will serve as Manager for the Peoria Javelinas. The Major League affiliations for each AFL team are asfollows: Peoria Javelinas (Mariners, Padres, Phillies, Reds, Twins); Salt Rivers Rafters (Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Nationals, Rockies, WhiteSox); Mesa Solar Sox (Astros, Cubs, Dodgers, Orioles, Tigers); Phoenix Desert Dogs (Athletics, Braves, Brewers, Marlins, Rays) andScottsdale Scorpions (Angels, Giants, Indians, Pirates, Yankees).

    TRIPLE PLAY: The Generals turned a triple play (6-3 started by SS Gabriel Noriega) on June 10 vs. Chattanooga to end the first game of adoubleheader. It was the first triple play turned by Jackson since June 23, 2011 at Montgomery in the bottom of the 4th inning. Kyeon Kang lineinto a 9-6-5 triple play that involved RF Johermyn Chavez, SS Nick Franklin and 3B Nate Tenbrink. Current Mariners closer Tom Wilhemsenwas on the mound and made the start. The 6-3 triple play was the nights #3 play on ESPN Sports Centers top 10 plays.

    25 RUNS/30 HIT OUTBURST: The Rainiers recorded 30 hits and scored 25 runs en route to a 25-6 win over Colorado Springs on June 19.The 25 runs scored are the most since the Rainiers became affiliated with the Mariners in 1995.     2013 Organizational Summaries

    AAA TACOMA RAINIERS PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

    The Rainiers finished 2nd in the Pacific Coast League North Division with a 76-68 record and2.0 games behind Salt Lake in 2013. Marked the clubs 27th winning season in franchise history(since 1960), while the teams 76 wins rank tied for the 17th-most in a single season. Tacomaspent a combined 71 of the teams 144 games in first place, including a stretch of 51consecutive games atop the division standings from May 28-July 22. The 55 wins the Rainierstallied at the All-Star break were the most first-half victories collected by a Tacoma squad since

    the 2001 club recorded 58 wins before the break.

    John Stearns was named the 28th manager in franchise history on May 2 afterDaren Brown,the Rainiers Opening Day manager, was named to the Mariners Major League field staff.Stearns ended the season with a 59-58 record over 117 games as the skipper with Tacoma.(Brown guided the Rainiers to a 17-10 mark over the teams first 27 games). Stearns began theseason as the Mariners Minor League Catching Coordinator.

    LHP Brian Moran and OF Carlos Peguero represented the PCL in the 2013 Dolan Auto GroupTriple-A All-Star Game. This years event, which pitted PCL All-Stars against All-Stars from theInternational League was held at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada. Moran earned his first All-Star selection in his 2nd season with the Rainiers. Peguero also made his first Triple-A All-Starappearance in his 8th season since signing with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in2005.

    OFAbraham Almonte (Player of the Year), RHP Logan Bawcom (Pitcher of the Year) and 1BRich Poythress (Defensive Player of the Year) earned team awards from the Rainiers. INF/OFNate Tenbrink was named the recipient of the Rainiers Community Service Award. He donatedmore than 20 hours of volunteering at South Sound non-profits and organizations such as MaryBridge Childrens Hospital, the Cheney Family Boys and Girls Club and Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

    A total of 10 Rainiers players earned their first Major League promotions with the Mariners thisseason. Tacoma saw 6 position players (Abraham Almonte, Brandon Bantz, Nick Franklin,Brad Miller, Jesus Sucre, Mike Zunino) and 4 pitchers (Bobby LaFromboise, YoervisMedina, James Paxton, Taijuan Walker) log their first stints in the Majors in 2013.

    Tacomas roster underwent a total of 140 player transactions this season - 34 more than the2012 club logged all of last season. Of the 25 players that were active on the Rainiers 2013Opening Day roster, a total of 9 were on the teams active roster for the final game of the

    season (5 position players, 4 pitchers). And of those 9, only 2 remained active on the teamsroster over the full length of the season (Nate Tenbrink, Logan Bawcom). The Rainiers fieldstaff underwent a total of four transactions (Daren Brown/John Stearns, May 2; DwightBernard /Terry Clark, July 18).

    Rainiers players combined to collect 5 weekly Pacific Coast League awards this season. A totalof 4 Rainiers earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors: RH Andrew Carraway (April 22-29), LHJeremy Bonderman (April 29-May 6), LH James Paxton (June 17-23) and RH TaijuanWalker (August 19-25). INF Nick Franklin (April 22-29) was the lone Rainiers recipient of theleagues Player of the Week award.

    The Rainiers wrapped up the season batting .269 (1352x5031) with 762 runs scored, 268doubles, 40 triples, 146 home runs and 704 RBI. The Rainiers 762 runs scored were the 2nd-most scored by a Mariners minor league affiliate this season (High Desert, 827), while ranking6th-most in the minors this season. Their 762 runs scored ranked 5th-most in franchise history(since 1960) and most since scoring 778 in 2009.

    The Rainiers ended the season ranked 2nd in the league with 146 home runs this season (LasVegas, 148). A total of 26 different players hit a home run with the Rainiers this season, whichtied the club with Salt Lake for the most in the league. Tacoma featured 7 different players withdouble-digits in home runs (Peguero - 19, Tenbrink - 15, Poythress - 13,Almonte - 11, Liddi- 11, Romero - 11, Zunino - 11) and 5 players with at least 50 RBI (Peguero - 83, Romero -74, Tenbrink - 60, Poythress - 57, Almonte - 50). Of the 762 runs the Rainiers scoredthroughout the teams 2013 campaign, 233 (30.5%) were accounted for via home runs.

    OF Abraham Almonte began the season with Double-A Jackson before being promoted to

    Tacoma on May 13. He reached base safely in his first 20 games with Tacoma, May 13-June10, batting .388 (26x67) with 17 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 13 RBI. His 20-game on-base streak was the 4th-longest by a Rainiers player this season. In 94 games with the

    SS Carlos Triunfel appeared in 9 games with the Mariners over two stints before the All-Stabreak (.083/2x24, RBI) and was recalled after the Rainiers season concluded in September. In100 games with the Rainiers he hit .282 (108x383) with 55 runs scored, 22 doubles, 3 triples, 5home runs and 31 RBI. He appeared at three different infield positions this season: SS 84games; 2B 13 games; and 3B 2 games. Triunfel recorded 5 hits, including hitting for thecycle as AAA Tacoma shutout Fresno 8-0 on April 17. Singling on the first pitch he saw in thefifth inning, Triunfel completed Tacomas first cycle since Raul Ibaez accomplished the feat on

    Aug. 19, 1997 vs. Albuquerque. He also is the first player in the Pacific Coast League to cyclesince Nashvilles Caleb Gindl on July 10, 2011, also against Albuquerque. Triunfel achieved theact in his first 4 at-bats of the game. He tripled with one out in the first inning, led off the bottomof the third with a double, then homered in the fourth. He completed the cycle in the fifth inningafter lining a single down the right field line. Triunfel snapped an 0-for-20 stretch coming intothe game and was the first Rainiers player since Michael Saunders on July 30, 2011 vs. LasVegas to record 5 hits in a game.

    INF Brad Millerset a team-high by hitting safely in each of his final 22 games with the Rainiers

    May 29-June 27, the 2nd-longest hitting streak recorded in the league this season. Miller batted.385 (35x91) over that stretch, with 91 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 27RBI. Miller was also recorded a 26-game on-base streak (T9th-longest in the PCL), May 25-June 27. In 68 games combined between AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma this season, Miller hit.319 (82x257) with 53 runs scored, 12 doubles, 12 home runs, 53 RBI and a .920 OPS (.521SLG, .399 OBP). In the field for Tacoma he made 22 starts at shortstop, 3 at second base andone at designated hitter.

    INF Ty Kelly was acquired by the Mariners from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for OF EricThames on June 30 and assigned to Tacoma. He reached base safely in 50 of 53 games withan at-bat, including recording a hit in 37 games. Kelly walked a career-high 5 times on Aug. 16vs. Colorado (1x2, 2 R, 3B, RBI, 5 BB) and was one of 10 minor league players to record 5walks in a single game in 2013.     Tacomas pitching staff fanned 1,145 batters through 144 games of their 2013 campaign, besting the previous mark of 1,079 set in2010. RH Brian Sweeney and LH James Paxton each led the Rainiers with 8 wins, while RH Blake Beavan,Andrew Carraway andBobby LaFromboise finished T2nd with 6 wins apiece. Tacomas pitchers had a 5.52 ERA (649 ER, 1291.1 IP), while walking 461 andstriking out 1,145.

    RH Brian Sweeney logged his franchise-record 7th different season at Tacoma since making his Rainiers debut in 1999. Among

    Tacomas all-time franchise pitching leaders, Sweeney now ranks 3rd in strikeouts (403), 4th in innings pitched (582.2), T5th in wins(36), 6th in appearances (144) and 9th in games started (66).RHP Taijuan Walkersplit the season between AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma, going a combined to go 9-10 with a 2.93 ERA (46 ER141.1 IP) and is averaging 10.19 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (160 strikeouts) in 25 starts. He was promoted to Tacoma fromDouble-A Jackson and made his Triple-A debut on June 25 vs. Fresno at Cheney Stadium. He recorded the win vs. the Grizzliesallowing only 3 hits and striking out 4 in 6.0 innings in his debut. Walker tossed 14.0 scoreless innings over his first 3 AAA starts, beforeallowing a solo home run in the 5th inning on July 7 at Salt Lake. Overall he is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA (23 ER, 57.1 IP) in 11 starts withTacoma prior to being selected by Seattle on Aug. 30. Walker was the youngest player in the PCL this season and 2nd-youngest inTriple-A. Walker joined the Rainiers roster with the 7th-best ERA in the Southern League (2.46/24 ER, 84.0 IP). The 20-year-old ranked1st in the SL in strikeouts (96) and 3rd in opponent batting average (.195, 58x298) and innings pitched (84.0). Also amongst SouthernLeague starters he ranked first in SO/9IP ratio (10.29). He was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Mariners farmsystem entering the season, and was listed as the No. 2 right-handed pitching prospect in the minors by MLB.com.

    LHP Danny Hultzen went 4-1 with a 2.05 ERA (7 ER, 30.2 IP) in 6 starts with Tacoma. He has spent the majority of the season on thedisabled list after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain and tendinitis on April 26. Hultzen made one rehab start with the AZLMariners on June 22 vs. AZL Royals (5.0,3,1,1,0,8) before being reinstated from the DL on June 26. He recorded the win in Tacomas2-0 victory over Las Vegas on June 27 (6.0,2,0,0,1,6), but was scratched from his next start and placed back on the DL on July 7. He

    was activated from the disabled list on Sept. 1 and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in a start that night vs. Sacramento.Hultzen underwensurgery on his left shoulder on Oct. 1. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Pensacola, FL., cleaning up the labrum and apartial tear of the rotator cuff, and repaired the capsule.

    LHP James Paxton finished tied for the team lead with 8 wins, going 8-11 with a 4.45 ERA (70 ER, 145.2 IP) in 28 games/26 startswith the Rainiers. He ranked T3rd in strikeouts and games start in the PCL, while ranking 5th amongst league starters averaging 8.04strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Paxton recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno (6.0,3,0,0,1,11). It marked his 9th careestart recording at least 10 strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13 at New Orleans). Paxton also tossed his first career shutout as the TacomaRainiers blanked the Tucson Padres 7-0 at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on July 8 (9.0,5,0,0,2,4). Paxton limited the Padres to 5hits, all singles, and walked 2 with 4 strikeouts over a career-high 9.0 innings of work. His 9.0-inning shutout win was the first recordedby a Rainiers pitcher since fellow LH Chris Seddon tossed 9.0 scoreless frames in a win at Colorado Springs on June 15, 2010. Prior tothat start, the longest start of Paxtons career was 7.0 innings (Aug. 12, 2011 vs. Huntsville).

    The Rainiers relievers went a combined 31-17 with 40 saves and a 3.93 ERA (232 ER, 531.1 IP). LH Bobby LaFromboise led alrelievers with 6 wins, while RH Logan Bawcom recorded a team-high 21 saves. The relievers combined to limit opponents to a .258(523x2030), while walking 184 and striking out 538 batters. As a team they averaged 9.11 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, while RH DannyFarquhar(13.5), LH Lucas Luetge (13.1) and LH Brian Moran (12.2) each averaged double digit strikeouts per 9.0 innings (min 20.0IP in relief).

    RH Logan Bawcom led all Mariners farmhand with 21 saves, while ranking 5th in the PCL. He held opponents scoreless in 40 of 51appearances, limiting opponents to a .235 average (56x238), while walking 24 and striking out 64. He was 1-4 with 21 saves and a 2.91ERA (21 ER, 65.0 IP) 24 save opportunities. Bawcom has recorded 47 saves over the last 2 seasons (2012-13), which trails only JoseValdez (48) for most in the minor leagues.

    LH relieverBrian Moran went 2-5 with 4 saves and a 3.45 ERA in 48 appearances with Tacoma. Amongst relievers in the PCL, Moranled all PCL relievers in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (12.21), while having the 4th-lowest walk to strikeout ratio (2.15). He struck out 85batters, which led all Rainiers relievers and ranked 2nd on the team behind Paxtons 131 strikeouts. Moran recorded at least 1 strikeouin 37 of 48 appearances, including 21 games with at least 2 strikeouts. He struck out a season-high 5 batters twice: April 6 at Fresno(2.0,0,0,0,0,5) and May 31 at Colorado (2.1,1,0,0,0,5). Moran held opponents scoreless in 31 of 48 games, including tossing a season

    high 13.0 innings, May 24-June 19.

    The Rainiers recorded 30 hits and 25 runs in a win at Colorado Springs on May 29. The 25 runs scored are the most since the Rainiersbecame affiliated with the Mariners in 1995. The previous high was 24 runs scored on June 6, 2011 at Tucson. The 30 hits is also aRainiers-era franchise record, besting the previous hit of 25 on June 28, 2004 at Sacramento. The Rainiers recorded at least 2 runs ineach of the first 6.0 inning and 5-or-more runs in 3 different innings. Tacoma jumped out to an early lead with 6 runs in the first inningand capped off the evening with a 7-run 6th inning. Since 2005, the Rainiers are the 5th minor league team to score at least 25 runsand record at least 30 hits in a game. The Rainiers join the Visalia Rawhide in the California League (5/15/12 at High Desert, 26 runs31 hits), Lake Elsinore in the California League (6/28/09 at High Desert, 33 runs, 32 hits), Vaqueros Laguna in the Mexican League(7/5/08 at Pericos de Puebla, 30 runs, 30 hits) and Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Mexican League (4/3/07 vs. Potros de Tijuana, 26runs, 31 hits) as the only minor league teams to accomplish this feat in the last 8 seasons.

    AA JACKSON GENERALS SOUTHERN LEAGUE

    ManagerJim Pankovits led Jackson to a 62-73 record, which was the 3rd-best record in the Southern League Northern Division. TheGenerals went 29-37 in the First Half and finished 2nd with a 33-36 recorded in the Second Half. The teams 62 wins were the loweswin total since finishing 62-78 in 2009.

    The Generals set a franchise-high with 19 games postponed or cancelled due to rain in 2013. The 135 game played was the lowest infranchise history due to 5 cancelled games. Jackson played 31 games in 31 days during the month of August and recorded the teamsonly winning month of the season (16-15).

    Outfielders Julio Morban, James Jones and LHP Elias Roenis represented Jackson on the North Division roster for the 2013Southern League All-Star Game, which was played July 17 at Bragan Field at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. RHP Taijuan Walke

    was also selected to the roster, but is unable to play due to his promotion to AAA Tacoma.

    The Generals pitching staff finished the season with 3.41 ERA, while walking 432 batters and striking out 983 in 1165.2 innings. LHAnthony Fernandez led the team with 9 wins, while RH Stephen Kohlscheen and LH James Gillheeney each ranked 2nd on theteam with 7 wins. RH Carson Smith led the Generals with 15 saves.

    After allowing 5 runs over his first 6 appearances of the season, RH Carson Smith allowed only 5 earned runs over his last 38 relie

    appearances. During this stretch he went 1-1 with 12 saves and a 1.01 ERA (5 ER, 44.2 IP). He allowed only 1 earned run over his fina28.2 innings (22 G/0.35 ERA), including tossing a season-high 16.2 scoreless innings to close out the season, July 23-Sept. 2. Since

    April 22, Smith lowered his ERA from 8.44 to 1.80. Smith limited opponents to a .183 average (33x180), while walking 17 and strikingout 71. He struck out at least 1 batter in 39 of 44 games, including recording 21 multi-strikeout performances. Overall Smith went 1-3with 15 save and a 1.80 ERA (10 ER, 50.0 IP) in 44 games with the Generals.

    LH Kyle Hunterheld opponents scoreless in 28 of 34 appearances with Jackson, going 3-0 with 1 save and a 1.40 ERA (9 ER, 57.2IP). He limited opponents to a .222 (47x212), while walking 16 and striking out 43. Hunter went 2-0 with a save and a 0.89 ERA (4 ER,40.2 IP) in 30 relief appearances and 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA (5 ER, 17.0 IP) in 4 starts. He began the season with Single-A High Desertgoing 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA (5 ER, 12.1 IP) in 8 games.

    After appearing in only 2 games during the 2011 and 2012 seasons due to injuries, LH Nick Hill went 2-3 with a 2.17 ERA (12 ER, 49.2IP) in 42 games with Jackson this season. He held opponents scoreless in 34 of 44 appearances, including a season-high 11.0scoreless innings (July 6-Aug. 10). Hill recorded his first win of the season on April 23 vs. Pensacola, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings inrelief. It was his first win since July 26, 2010 vs. Birmingham (w/West Tenn). He was promoted to Tacoma on Aug. 30, allowing 1 run in3.0 innings in relief (2 G).

    RH Stephen Kohlscheen went 7-3 with 2 saves and a 2.30 ERA (17 ER, 66.2 IP) in 41 games with Jackson. He allowed only 3 earnedruns over his final 31.2 innings, going 5-0 with 1 save and a 0.85 ERA. Amongst all relivers in the Southern Leauge, he led the leaguein strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.48), while ranking 4th in opponent average (.203) and 5th in fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (9.86)Kohlscheen struck out 85 batters in 66.2 innings in relief including recording at least 1 strikeout in 36 of 41 games. He struck out aleast 1 batter in 22 consecutive games from June 15-August 31 (51 strikeouts). Kohlscheen recorded 24 multi-strikeout games,

    including striking out a season-high 7 batters in 3.0 innings on May 17 vs. Birmingham.

    Jackson hit .224 (1065x4399) with 525 runs scored, 190 doubles, 41 triples, 91 home runs and 481 RBI in 135 games. INF StevenProscia led the Generals with 10 home runs, while INF Ji-Man Choi and OF Jabari Blash each recorded 9 homers. OF James Jonesled the team with 45 RBI in 101 games.

    SS Chris Taylorhit .314 (165x525) with 100 runs scored, 28 doubles, 11 triples, 8 home runs, 60 RBI, 84 walks and 38 stolen bases in

    134 games combined between Jackson and High Desert. He led all Mariners farmhands with 108 runs scored, while ranking 3rdamongst all minor league players. He also led all Mariners minor leaguers in hits (T8th-most amongst all MiL players), while ranking2nd with 38 stolen bases. Taylor was one of 3 minor league players this season to hit over .300 with at least 100 runs scored, 45 extra-base hits, 30 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of at least .400, joining Byron Buxton-Cedar Rapids/Ft. Meyers (.334, 109 R, 49EBH, 55 SB, .424 OBP) and George Springer-Corpus Christi/Oklahoma City (.303, 106 R, 68 EBH, 45 SB, .411 OBP). He recorded 48multi-hit games (3-H: 14 and 4-H: 2), while recording 5 hitting streaks of at least 5 games. He began the season with High Desert andreached base safely in 29 straight games, the 8th-longest in the California League this season. He was promoted to Double-A Jacksonon June 29 and reached base safely via a hit or walk in 59 of 67 games. He recorded a season-high 4 straight multi-hit games, June

    29-July 2, batting .474 (9x19) with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 RBI, 1 walk and 2 stolen bases.

    INF Ji-Man Choi hit .295 (125x424) with 64 runs scored, 36 doubles, 6 triples, 18 home runs, 85 RBI and 63 walks in 122 gamescombined between A High Desert (4/4/-6/2), AA Jackson (6/3-8/18) and AAA Tacoma (8/19-9/2). He was one of 20 minor leagueplayers this season to record at least 60 extra-base hits. He began the season with the Mavericks hitting safely in 36 of 47 games withan at-bat, including 16 multi-hit games. Choi hit safely in a career-high 21 games from April 27-May 22, which was 3rd longest in theCalifornia League this season. During the streak he hit .422 (35x83) with 20 runs scored, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 26 RBI and13 walks. Choi was promoted to Jackson on June 4. Appearing in 61 games with the Generals, Choi finished T2nd on the team with 9home runs, including a team-high 2 grand slams (6/29 vs. Birmingham and 7/31 vs. Huntsville).     OF James Jones hit .275 (100x363) with 44 runs scored, 14 doubles, 10 triples, 6 home runs, 45 RBI, 40 walks and 28 stolen bases in101 games with Jackson. He led the league with 10 triples, while falling 1 short of the Jackson franchise record of 11 set by Bo Porter in1998 and Dwaine Bacon in 2004. Jones is one of 3 Jackson players to record at least 10 triples in a single season, joining RichardLewis (2004) and Chris Walker (2006). Jones (3x4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) hit 2 home runs on June 22 vs. Mobile, including an inside-thepark home run. It was the first time in franchise history a multi-home run game included an inside-the-park homer. It was also the firsinside-the-park home run by a Generals player since Jake Shaffer (5/6/2011 vs. Birmingham). Jones went 1-for-4 in the SouthernLeague All-Star Game, recording the only hit by the North Division squad. Jones was promoted to Tacoma on Aug. 30, appearing in 4games to end the season.

    OF Jabari Blash hit .271 (103x380) with 55 runs scored, 19 doubles, 3 triples, 25 home runs and 74 RBI in 109 games combinedbetween A High Desert and AA Jackson. After being promoted to Jackson on August 2, Blash led the team with 9 home runs, which

    was tied for the most in the Southern League (also: Javier Baez). He homered in his first Double-A at-bat on Aug. 3 at Mobile, whilerecording 2 multi-home run games (8/15 vs. Montgomery & 8/30 at Huntsville). Blash homered twice in the 4th inning on August 30 atHuntsville. He was the first Jackson player has hit 2 home runs in the same inning, while his 5 RBI during the 4th inning were the mostin a single inning in franchise history. Blash began the season with High Desert, batting .258 (73x283) with 42 runs scored, 16 doubles3 triple, 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 80 games. He hit 12 home runs over his first 33 games, but only 4 between May 28 and July 14.From April 5-May 28, Blash hit .317 (40x126) with 25 runs scored, 7 doubles, 3 triples, 13 home runs, 37 RBI and 15 walks in first 34games to begin the season. During this stretch his .317 average ranked T5th-highest in the California League.

    OF Julio Morban hit .295 (87x295) with 46 runs scored, 20 doubles, 5 triple, 7 home runs and 44 RBI in 86 games with the Generals

    He hit safely in a season-high 12 straight games, April 27-May 15, batting .426 (20x47) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homeruns and 11 RBI. Morban hit .349 (30x86) with 11 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 25 of his 32 RBI in 22 games inMay.

    A HIGH DESERT MAVERICKS CALIFORNIA LEAGUE

    ManagerJames Horner led High Desert to a 64-76 record, which was 4th in the California League Southern Division. The Maverickswent 34-36 in the First Half and finished the Second half going 30-40.

    The Carolina League All-Stars defeated the California League All-Stars 12-2 on June 18. SS Chris Taylor (0x4, K) and RF JabarBlash (0x2, K) combined to go 0-for-6 with 2 strikeouts outs in the game. INF Ji-Man Choi was named California League Mid-Season

    All-Stars for the 2013 California/Carolina League All-Star Game, but was unable to play after being promoted to AA Jackson. Blashalso participated in the Leagues home run hitting contest.

    The Mavericks hit .274 (1329x4850) with 827 runs scored, 285 doubles, 56 triples, 154 home runs and 763 home runs in 140 games. Inthe California League, High Desert ranked 2nd in the California League in nearly every offensive category, including average, at-batsruns scored, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases (2,188), on-base percentage (.346), slugging percentage (.451) and OPS(.798). The Mavericks 827 runs scored, ranked 3rd overall in the minor leagues this season.

    INF Patrick Kivlehan, OF Ji-Man Choi and INFAnthony Phi ll ips each recorded a hitting streak of at least 18 games this seasonKivlehan (.437/45x103, 25 R, 10 2B, 7 HR, 35 RBI, 10 BB) led the league hitting safely in 25 consecutive games from July 25-Aug. 22while Chois (.422/35x83, 20 R, 15 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 26 RBI, 13 RBI) 21-game hitting streak from April 22-May 27 ranked 3rd overall in theleague. Phillips hit safely in a career-high 18 straight games, April 11-May 3 (.364/24x66, 12 R, 7 2B, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 6 BB). TheMaverick also had 4 players with consecutive on-base streaks of at least 28 games this season. OF Jamal Austin reached base safelyin 38 consecutive games, April 4-May 16, which was the longest streak in the California League this season. OF Daniel Paolin i (33 GJune 2-July 11), INF Chris Taylor(29, April 4-May 4) and INF Ji-Man Choi (28, April 20-May 23) joined Austin as 1 of 10 players in the

    OF Daniel Paolini split the season between A High Desert and AA Jackson, batting .256 (112x437) with 68 runs scored, 26 doubles, 3triples, 18 home runs, 73 RBI, 75 walks and 3 stolen bases in 123 games. He began the season with the Mavericks batting .284(95x334) with 62 runs scored, 21 doubles, 2 triples, 18 home runs and 69 RBI in 92 games. He ranked 5th in the California League inslugging percentage (.521), while having the 4th-highest home runs per at-bats ratio in the league (1/18.65). Paolini recorded 6 hittingstreaks of at least 5 games, including a season-high 9-game hit streak, April 9-18. During the streak he hit .400 (14x35) with 10 runsscored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 8 RBI and 7 walks.

    OF Jamal Austin reached base safely in 38 consecutive games to begin the season, April 4-May 16, which led the California Leaguethis season. During that 38-game stretch he hit .263 (41x156) with 28 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 16 RBI and 20 walks.     INF Patrick Kivlehan hit .303 (148x489) with 74 runs scored, 25 doubles, 3 triples, 16 home runs, 90 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 43walks in 128 games combined between A Clinton and A High Desert. He recorded 39 multi-hit games, while also driving in at least 2runs in 21 games. He set both career-high in hits and RBI on Aug. 9 vs. Lancaster (5x7, 4 R, 2B, HR, 6 RBI). Kivlehan also set acareer-high after hitting safely in 25 consecutive games, from July 25-Aug. 22 (.437/45x103, 25 R, 10 2B, 7 HR, 35 RBI, 10 BB). It wasthe longest hitting streak by a Mariners farmhand this season as well as the longest streak this season in the California LeagueKivlehan hit .357 (40x112) with 25 runs scored, 8 doubles, 7 home runs, 38 RBI, 10 walks and 1 stolen base in 27 games in the monthof August. His 38 RBI during August led all minor league players, while also ranking as the most in any single month in the minors in2013.

    OF Kevin Rivers hit .297 (92x485) with 92 runs scored, 36 doubles, 5 triples, 20 home runs, 97 RBI, 66 walks and 8 stolen bases in128 games with High Desert. He led all Mariners farmhands with a career-high 97 RBI. Rivers also ranked 2nd in the California League

    in RBI and doubles, T4th in extra-base hits (61) and 5th in walks. He hit .364 (63x173) with 37 runs scored, 28 extra-base hits (2B: 18,3B: 1, HR: 9) and 41 RBI in 44 games to close out the season (7/14-9/2). During this stretch, amongst all minor league players, heranked T2nd in doubles, T3rd in extra-base hits, 4th in total bases (110), T6th in RBI and 9th in average.

    RH Jordan Pries led the Mavericks with 8 wins, while LH Bobby Shore and RH Stephen Landazuri each recorded 6 wins. RHDominic Leone (12), RH Stephen Shackleford (7) combined to record 19 of the teams 30 saves. High Deserts pitchers had a 5.24ERA (715 ER, 1227.1 IP), while walking 478 and striking out 1074.

    Pries went 8-6 with a 5.13 ERA (71 ER, 124.2 IP) in 24 games (23 starts) with the Mavericks. His 8 wins were T8th most amongst the

    Mariners farmhands this season. He limited opponents to a .264 (129x489), including a .237 (46x194) vs. left-handed batters. Pries tiedhis career high with 9 strikeouts on July 19 vs. Lake Elsinore (also: 7/9/12 at Quad Cities w/Clinton).

    RH Dominic Leone, who was promoted to Double-A Jackson July 12, went 1-3 with a 2.25 ERA (16 ER, 64.0 IP) in 48 games

    combined between Clinton, High Desert and Jackson. He combined to limit opponents to a .212 average (49x231), while walking 18and striking out 64. After allowing 9 runs in first 13.0 innings (7 G) with the Mavericks, he allowed only 2 runs over his finall 27.0 innings

    (0.67 ERA). He tossed a season-high 17.2 scoreless innings (15) combined between High Desert and Jackson, June 16-Aug. 3.

    RH David Colvin went 5-0 with a 2.34 ERA (15 ER, 57.2 IP) in 32 games (1 GS) with High Desert. He limited opponents to a .257average (57x222), while walking 13 and striking out 62. Colvin was limited to only 32 games this season after making 3 different stintson the disabled list with a strained right shoulder.

    A CLINTON LUMBERKINGS MIDWEST LEAGUE

    ManagerEddie Menchaca led LumberKings to a 67-72 overall record, which ranked 5th in the Midwest League Western Division. TheLumberKings went 33-36 in the First Half and finished the Second half going 34-36. The 2013 playoff appearance was the 9th out of thelast 11 years for the Clinton franchise.

    The LumberKings hit .268 (1244x4640) with 629 runs scored, 261 doubles, 30 triples, 72 home runs and 569 RBI in 139 games. Clinton

    led the league in average and hits, while ranking 2nd in doubles, 4th in RBI 5th in on-base percentage (.333) and 6th sluggingpercentage (.384) and OPS (717). OF Dario Pizzano led the team with 70 RBI, while OF Jordy Lara was the team leader with 10home runs.

    OF Dario Pizzano hit .311 (144x463) with 75 runs scored, 40 doubles, 5 triples, 8 home runs and 70 RBI in 126 games with Clinton. Heled all Mariners farmhands with 40 doubles, while ranking T6th amongst all minor league players. Pizzanos 40 doubles were the 3rd-most in Clinton franchise history (1. Tod Ronson, 44 in 1987, 2. Vinnie Catricala, 41 in 2010), while his 144 hits ranked T11th (with:Nick Franklin, 2010 and Tim Smith, 2008). Pizzano recorded at least 1 hit in 92 of 143 games with an at-bat, including reaching basesafely via a hit or walk in 127 games. He reached base safely in 40 of his last 41 games, including 35 straight games from July 18-Aug26. His 35-game on-base streak ranked 3rd in the Midwest League this season. He recorded 3 hitting streak of at least 10 games, Apri9-20 (10 games: .406/13x32, 9 R, 2 2B, HR, 8 RBI), June 20-July 2 (11 games: .341/15x44, 10 R, 4 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI) and a career-high 19 games, Aug. 7-26 (.373/28x75, 14 R, 12 2B, 3B, HR, 11 RBI, 9 BB).

    OF Gabriel Guerrero hit .271 (127x469) with 60 runs scored, 23 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs,50 RBI, 21 walks and 12 stolen basesin 125 games with Clinton. He hit safely in 23 of 25 games from June 12-July 11 (.419/39x93, 12 R, 6 2B, 13 RBI, 3 BB, 5 SB),

    including recording a season-high 15-game hit streak from June 26-July 11 (.481/26x54, 7 R, 4 2B, 8 RBI, 3 BB). His 15-game hitstreak is the T9th-longest streak in the Midwest League this season. During this 25-game stretch he led all minor league players inaverage.

    INF Ketel Marte began the season with Clinton, batting .304 (115x378) with 61 runs scored, 15 doubles, 5 triples, 29 RBI, 15 walks and

    16 stolen bases in 98 games. After batting .193 through the first 34 games, Marte rebounded to hit .352 (115x364) with 44 runs scored44 extra-base hits (2B: 14, 3B:4), 22 RBI, 9 walks and 11 stolen bases. During this 64-game stretch he ranked 2nd in the MidwestLeague in average, while raising his season average to .303. Marte recorded 36 multi-hit games with the LumberKings, including 9consecutive multi-hit games from July 30-Aug. 7 (.600/27x45, 9 R, 3 2B, 2 3B, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 3 SB). Marte was promoted to High Deseron Aug. 13, batting .256 (22x86) in 19 games.

    The LumberKings pitching staff had a 3.90 ERA (517 ER, 1194.1 IP), while walking 480 and striking out 883 strikeouts. LH ScotDeCecco led the team with 9 wins, while LH Tyler Pike and RH Oliver Garcia each finished 2nd with 7 wins. Eleven differenLumberKings have recorded at least 1 save with RH Grady Wood led the squad with 7 saves.

    LH Tyler Pike was named to the 2013 Midwest League Post-Season All-Star Team, which honors the best player at each positionacross the league. Pike was selected as the top left-handed starter in the Midwest League this season. In his first full season in theminor leagues, he went 7-4 with a 2.37 ERA (29 ER, 110.1 IP) in 22 starts with Clinton. He limited opponents to a .194 average(73x377), while walking 57 and striking out 90. Pike was also one of four LumberKings chosen to represent the Western Division in theMidwest League All-Star Game in June.

    RH Victor Sanchez tossed a 9.0-inning no-hitter in his 27th professional start as Clinton blanked visiting Lansing 1-0 on July 17. Imarked the 22nd no-hitter in the 77-year history of Clinton baseball and the 7th 9.0-inning no-hitter. LH Jordan Shipers went thedistance in the LumberKings last no-hitter on July 11, 2012. Overall he went 6-6 with a 2.78 ERA (35 ER, 113.1 IP) in 20 starts with theLumberKings. He limited opponents to a .241 (106x440) average, while walking 18 and striking out 79. Amongst qualifying pitchers inthe Midwest League, he ranked 2nd in ERA and T2nd in WHIP (1.09). He also ranked amongst qualifying starts in fewest baserunners

    per 9.0 innings (2nd, 10.24) and fewest walks per 9.0 innings (3rd, 1.43).

    RH Dylan Unswort h spent the majority of the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain, June 8-Aug. 29. He went 4-1 with a2.32 ERA (17 ER, 66.0 IP) in 11 starts with Clinton. He limited opponents to a .237 (58x245) average, while walking 2 and striking ou46. After allowing a walk to Byron Buxton in the 5th inning in his 2nd start of the season on April 14, Unsworth tossed 62.0 inningswithout a walk (including 6.0 innings during 3 rehab appearances with the AZL Mariners).

    A EVERETT AQUASOX NORTHWEST LEAGUE

    ManagerRob Mummau was named NWL Manager of the Year after leading Everett 44-32 record, which was the best recorded in theNorthwest League North Division and the 2nd-best overall record in the league in 2013. Everett won both the First and Second Haldivision titles going 23-15 in the first half of the season following up with a 21-17 record to close out the season. The AquaSox fell to theVancouver Canadians in the first round of the NWL Playoffs.

    Seven players from the AquaSox roster were named to the Northwest League Northern Division All-Star team, including pitchersAaron

    Brooks, Lars Huijer, and Jose Valdivia, catcher Carlton Tanabe and infielders D.J. Peterson, Jack Reinheimer, and JustinSeager. The first-half division champions were rewarded for their efforts with strong showings in both fan and manager voting as

    Peterson and Reinheimer were selected as starters for the leagues first All-Star Game since 2004. Peterson will be unable toparticipate after being promoted to Single-A Clinton.

    The AquaSox hit .250 (631x2528) with 324 runs scored, 108 doubles, 16 triples, 36 home runs and 277 RBI in 76 games in theNorthwest League. D.J. Peterson,Aus tin Wilson and Phillips Castillo each hit a team-high 6 home runs, while Justin SeagerandJack Reinheimerled the team with 36 RBI.

    INF D.J. Peterson, the Mariners 2013 first-round draft selection out of the University of New Mexico, made his professional debut with

    Everett. In 29 games, he hit .312 (34x109) with 20 runs scored, 6 doubles, 6 home runs, 27 RBI and 13 walks. Despite appearing inonly 29 games with the AquaSox he finished tied for the team lead in home runs and T3rd in RBI. Peterson was promoted to A Clintonon July 24. Overall he hit .303 (63x208) with 36 runs scored, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 55 games combinedbetween Everett and Clinton. He hit 3 grand slams (6/23 vs. Hillsboro, 6/28 vs. Spokane and 8/7 at Quad Cities), while recording his

    first career multi-home run game on July 6 vs. Salem-Keizer. He combined to record 16 multi-hit games, including a season-high 4 hitson July 4 vs. Salem-Keizer (4x6, R, 2B). Peterson season was cut short after being hit in the jaw on Aug. 22 in the bottom of the 3rdinning vs. the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. It was diagnosed as an open fracture of the left mandible. He underwent surgery on Aug. 23at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.

    The Everett pitching staff had a 4.04 ERA (299 ER, 670.1 IP), while walking 280 and striking out 622 strikeouts. The AquaSox limitedopponents to a .252 (629x2499) average. RH Lars Huijer led the team with 8 wins, while LH Nick Valenza recorded a team-high 4saves.

    RH Lars Huijerwent 8-2 with a 3.03 ERA (24 ER, 71.1 IP) in 14 games (13 GS) with Everett this season. He recorded 3 or less earnedruns in 10 of his 13 starts, while recording 5 quality starts. Unsworth led the AquaSox in innings pitched and strikeouts. He also rankedamongst the Northwest League leaders in wins (2nd), opponent average (T3rd, .218), strikeouts (T4th) and ERA (9th), while rankingamongst the leagues starters in opponent average (4th, .220) and strikeouts per 9.0 innings (3rd, 7.92). He tossed 25.2 consecutivescoreless innings over 5 starts, July 14-August 4. Huijer was named TOPPS Northwest League Player of the Month for July. Huijewent 5-1 with a 0.82 ERA for the Everett AquaSox over 6 games, 5 starts in July. He tossed 33.0 innings and led the Northwest League

    in wins, ERA, WHIP (0.70) and average against (.125). Huijer ended July with a 23.0 inning scoreless streak, allowing just 1 hit in eachof his last 2 starts, which lasted 7.0 and 8.0 innings, respectively.

    LH Tyler Wright went 2-0 with 1 save and a 1.99 ERA (7 ER, 31.2 IP) in 19 relief appearances with Everett. He limited opponents to a.202 (23x114) average, while walking 18 and striking out 39. He held opponents scoreless in 14 of 19 appearances, including tossing7.2 scoreless innings over 6 games, July 14-Aug. 3. His .202 opponents batting average ranked as the 2nd-lowest amongst NorthwesLeague relievers, while also having the 3rd-highest strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.08) amongst relievers.

    A PULASKI MARINERS APPALACHIAN LEAGUE

    The Mariners won the Appalachian League Championship after defeating both the Bluefield Blue Jays and the Greeneville Astros. Itmarked the 5th title for Pulaski in franchise history, dating back to 1948 and their first championship since 1991 when Pulaski was anaffiliate of the Atlanta Braves. ManagerChris Prieto led the Mariners to a 41-27 record, which was the best in the Appalachian Leaguein 2013.

    The Mariners had at least 3 winning streak of at least 5 games, including a season-high 8-game win streak, July 30-Aug. 6. Pulaskremained in 2nd place in Appalachian League East division, until recording a win on the last day to take the division crown.

    Pulaski led the Appalachian League in nearly every offensive category, including runs scored (352), hits (605), doubles (124), home

    runs (53), RBI (323), batting average (.265), on-base percentage (.339) and slugging percentage (.411). The Mariners 6 players with aleast 30 RBI (Zimmerman - 39, Ugueto - 39, Brito - 38, Smith - 34, Martinez - 33, Yates - 33), while 4 players recorded at least 20extra-base hits (Brito - 24, Ugueto - 23, Martinez - 22, Smith - 21). The Mariners also led the league with 99 stolen bases, 33 morethan Kingston who finished 2nd in the league with 66. Pulaski had 5 different players with double-digits in steals (Barbosa - 19, Miller14, Franca - 14, Smith - 12, Yates - 10). Despite appearing in only 30 games,Aaron Barbosa led the team with 19 stolen baseswhile ranking 8th amongst all Mariners farmhands.

    Shortstop Tyler Smith was named Appalachian League Player of the Year, while teammate RHP Edwin Diaz was named the leaguesPitcher of the Year. OF Ian Millerand relieverEmilio Pagan were also named to the Appalachian League All-Star team. The Mariners4 selections to the All-Star team were the most from any team.

    SS Tyler Smith hit .320 (64x200) with 33 runs scored, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 34 RBI, 18 walks and 12 stolen bases in 52games with Pulaski in his first professional season. He led all Mariners farmhands with a .320 average, while finishing 3rd in the AppyLeague in average and 5th in on-base percentage. Smith recorded at least 1 hit in 40 of 52 games, including reaching base safely 46times. He recorded 18 multi-hit games, including a season-high 5 hits on July 12 at Johnson City (5x5, R, 2B, RBI). He was one of only2 players in the league to record 5 hits in a games (also: Justin Ringo, Johnson City). Smith recorded a season-high 9-game hit streakwith 6 multi-hit games (.457/16x35, 7 R, 7 2B, 3B, 8 RBI), from July 29-August 4.

    OF Ian Millerhit .297 (46x155) with 30 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 home run, 13 RBI, 16 walks and 14 stolen bases in 40 games withPulaski. He ranked T3rd in the Appalachian League with 14 stolen bases. Miller started and ended the season with Everett in theNorthwest League, batting .333 (14x42) with 7 runs scored, 1 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 12 games.

    OF Wilton Martinez led the league in home runs (12) and home runs per at-bat ratio (1/16.75). Overall he hit .209 (42x201) with 9doubles, 1 triple, 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 53 games. OF Jesus Ugueto and 1B Jeff Zimmerman each ranked amongst the leagueleaders in RBI and slugging percentage, including both tying for 2nd with 39 RBI. Ugueto ranked 3rd with a .500 slugging percentagewhile Zimmerman finished 4th with a .494 slugging percentage. Ugueto hit .261 (48x184) with 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, 5 triples, 8home runs and 39 RBI in 49 games with the Mariners. Zimmerman also finished 6th in the league in average, batting .305 (53x174)with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs and 39 RBI in 47 games.

    The Mariners pitching staff finished 2nd in the league in innings pitched (596.1) and strikeouts (599), while ranking 3rd in saves (19)and opponent batting average (.234) and 5th in ERA (3.46). Reliever Leoncio Munoz led the team with 7 wins, while RH Jose Floresfinished 2nd on the team with 6 wins. The Mariners had 16 different pitchers record a win on a roster that featured 21 pitchers total.

    RH Edwin Diaz opened the season with 19.0 scoreless innings before allowing his first run of the season on July 7 at Princeton.Overall he went 5-2 with a 1.43 ERA (11 ER, 69.0 IP) in 13 starts. Diaz limited opponents to a .191 (45x235) average, while walking 18and striking out 73. Diaz struck out a career-high 10 batters on July 29 vs. Bristol and Aug. 20 at Bluefield. Diaz ranked amongst theleague pitching leaders in nearly every category, including ERA (1st, 1.43), strikeouts (1st, 79), games started (T1st, 13), inningspitched (2nd, 69.0), WHIP (1st, 0.91) and opponents average (2nd, .191). He also ranked amongst the Appy League starters in moststrikeouts per 9.0 innings (3rd, 10.30) and fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (1st, 8.74).

    RH Jose Flores went 6-1 with a 3.00 ERA (19 ER, 57.0 IP) in 12 starts. He limited opponents to a .208 average (42x202), whilewalking 22 and striking out 58. Flores finished 2nd on the team with 6 wins, while ranking 3rd with 58 strikeouts. He ranked 3rd in theleague in opponent average (.208), while also ranking T3rd in wins and game starts. He went 6-0 with a 2.66 ERA (15 ER, 44.0 IP) and46 strikeouts over 9 starts, June 29-Aug. 16. Flores recorded at least 5 strikeouts in 6 starts, including striking out a season-high 9

    RH Emilio Pagan was the only relief pitcher added to the Appalachian Leauge Post-Seaon All-Star team, after going 1-0 with 12 savesin 15 relief appearances over 20.1 scoreless innings. He limited opponents to a .127 (9x71) average, while walking 5 and striking out27. Pagan was promted to Short-A Everett on August 14, going 0-1 with 4.50 ERA (3 ER, 6.0 IP) in 5 games.
