ASAP Midyear Report ASAP PMP Activities

– XML version of v4.2 has been developed

– A Few Facts About the ASAP Standard (Every State Uses) It does not change frequently — last update Sept. 2011

No changes anticipated in foreseeable future

Changes made over the years to improve data quality

Done at request of PMPs

Very little difference between 4.1 and 4.2

Vast majority of states now using either 4.1 or 4.2

Several states are moving to 4.2 in order to get BJA grant money

4.1 and 4.2 can be used for real-time transmission

ASAP Midyear Report ASAP PMP Activities (continued)

– Web Service standard for bidirectional electronic connectivity between Pharmacies, Prescribers, and PMPs

Includes Ad Hoc Query and Automated Poll Query

Addresses use of “Pick Lists” to ensure correct Person of Interest

Includes sample program to implement

All stakeholders represented in the development process

States want to increase usage of the data. Convenient access should increase usage — this is what the standard addresses

Low cost to implement should appeal to state PMPs

Rounds out suite of standards: 4.2, Error Reports, Zero Reports

– Bill and Will will be attending the Harold Rogers PMP meeting in September (Washington, D.C)

– Bill serves as co-chair of Workgroup 4 for the Pharmacist Collaborative (formerly Pharmacist Services Technical Advisory Coalition PSTAC)

– Collaborative actively involved in AMA CPT code development

– Workgroup 4 developed three implementation guides for the HL7 Functional Profile: Community Practice, LTC, and Hospital

– Community Practice IG to be published shortly

– IG makes a single logical health record, as defined by HL7, more realistic and less ambiguous — scaled back for a more reasonable effort to implement

– ASAP MTM Information Exchange Standard published in 2009 to be reviewed for updating (OutcomesMTM now uses this standard)

– Value of Technology Analysis, published in 2009, to be reviewed for updating
